Keep in mind when you're suggesting something that you're asking for a developer to devote their life to developing this content. Put yourself in their position.\

Is your idea good enough to justify you quitting your job, taking up to 6 months developing this project, and then have it sell well enough to pay your bills?

That's the kind of passion that needs to go into these ideas because that's exactly what you are asking a developer to do. They are devoting time and money into these projects in the hopes they will see enough sales to repay their hard work.

Again, put yourself into their shoes and ask if YOU would be convinced to take that risk by what you've given them to work with. If you can't convince yourself to do it, then it's likely you're not convincing them either.

Get specific. Go into detail. Give as much information as you can. Go to the limit in selling your idea. Do a good enough job so that you convince yourself it's worth the risk.

DTG Alex created a thread (pinned, third from top) that literally says this.

No one listens to that, why would they listen to this one?

Fair point, but mine's not about what features to include.
Just asking for people to have empathy for others.
Walk a mile in their shoes so to speak.
A crazy concept in today's world.

    Possible solution:
    Crowd funding projects.
If people had to pay up front for an idea (like a crowd funding project) I think it'd improve the communicaton between customers and developers.
It would give the developers more confidence to build something if the costs were covered up front, and if customers had input from the beginning (and a financial investment) then maybe they'd be more realistic in their requests.

Having a set number of "presales" and maybe "additional features" unlocked for additional pledges with specifics outline in advanced would take a lot of the guesswork, risk and fear out of both sides of the equation.

In any case, if we just treated new ideas as if WE were the ones making it and invested in it, it would improve the suggestions.
