Out of curiosity will these suspension improvements make it so that when we are a passenger on a train the carriages will bounce around like we were driving it?
How do you know? I wasn't aware this was the case, I thought it would apply for AI also, presumably as part of the core?
Unfortunately not at this time which is why I'm hoping the update when it eventually comes out will add that to the very least the train you're a passenger on
The physics is heavily simplified for AI trains, that’s the way it’s always been. If you’ve been on the 142 you’ll notice the train doesn’t rock about like it does when you drive it
In the 101 stream they said the train wouldn’t come with suspension because DTG hasn’t finished it yet. The 101 releases next Thursday, this isn’t a good sign.
Is suspension not been released yet. Thought it was coming out last year with the blackpool route Or this is being added to the next TSW.
It came out first with the 142 because it uses very basic spring suspension, this is why it’s such an uncomfortable train to ride irl. But DTG have been working on all the other forms of suspension since then and before the release of TSW 4. It was meant to come out by the end of last month on a few trains.
Suspension has been suspended. Or maybe the suspension of disbelief, as it’s hard to believe anything they announce.
Apparently, such s small detail needs a whole core update, update to all models and routes? And upon release we'll find this small detail has broken a host of other things .... It may be the holiday season, but even the simplest QA of DTG communication seems non existent.
I personally see no difference between new and old suspension. Could just be me? Doesn't have any bounce etc?
That’s because there was a communication mix up and the suspension improvements weren’t part of this update. There’s an update in the news section on the forums.
The update notes on Steam still mention the suspension update. Maybe DTG should update that post or make a new one?
I have updated my game today, the patch notes say that the Class 801 should have the new suspension update. However upon loading into a normal timetable service at Doncaster, nothing seems to have changed. I have seen the trailer for suspension and it isnt doing what that shows.
Don't notice anything on the 380 or the 801. If there is something it's very slight. I turned my head sway to 200% and still nothing so :/
Can’t you people read? Theres been a communication error, suspension had not released, but is in final testing phase
For anyone that might have missed it, the BR 218 does have the new suspension implemented as well. Beside this I did not notice it in any other new DLC (except BP) or stock trains that came with Tsw4. They where testing this on the OBB 4024 a while ago but was never released
suspension improvements must come to us next week since this week is dedicated for expert 101 release and the week after next week is the dovetail direct week
I'd like to take this opportunity to remind us that a delay from the original release date allows more bugs to be fixed. While it may seem hard to believe because we never see the bugs that are fixed, only the ones that aren't, it will allow for a higher quality update (despite the agonisingly long wait).
I would lay good money on DTG introducing suspension without any realistic animation, despite taking over a year to get it out the door. The usual bingo card of excuses will be unfurled: Not enough time Don’t want to break older content It’ll come later Animation isn’t really necessary, who looks at the bogies when driving? Of course they could yet surprise us all and announce full suspension animation at the Dovetail Direct…
Well I can already tell you there won’t be any animations. Look at the Pacer, the body move separate from the wheels, the springs are static.
I've asked myself why's everybody so keen to have the suspension animated? Sure, it's a nice to have but are hundreds of sim drivers going to place their cameras near the bogies to watch the suspension following physics? How long does that take to become boring? I'm trying to picture this. :headscratch:
To me that has to be the biggest disappointment of TSW4. The Expert loco launches and suspension is still not ready. Please scrap the announcements from the next Direct that will not be ready in 6 months after launch.
It is sometimes nice to watch the wheels go round. The issue now is, just like when the wheels had blocky glitches with motion blur (still occurs on older models), seeing the wheels move up and down (that bit is animated) but the suspension staying static will be worse than having it all rigid and will make looking at the wheels and bogies a bad experience again. It really should be an all or nothing approach with the visuals. Some players do like to watch the exterior of trains while playing and not stick rigidly to the driver view. It’s going to look odd now, even if you aren’t specifically looking for it, due to the disconnect between what is happening with the wheels and what is connected to them. Probably easier to ignore than the blocky motion blur stuff but with that there was a way to fix it by turning motion blur off.
Yeah but the Pacer is JustTrains’ baby, but hopefully they will update it with the proper suspension and animation when the time comes. Watching the class 142 bouncing around is part of the fun!
Its known in some industry circles as the Say Do gap. The difference between what you say you'll do and what is actually done. There are predictable consequence to getting it right, and getting it wrong. The trouble is consumers also tend to be afflicted with the say do gap...
Not really waiting for it gladly. Playing MSB, it seems as if suspension is already included. Only GodMode allows me to play that route by tuning down Camera Sway to 0.1, where the ingame settings only allow a minimum of 0.5 which is still way too much.
I had a look at the initial TSW4 announcement from last year...and the suspension improvements announcement has been removed. So they'll probably announce it for TSW5.
Still there for me! https://live.dovetailgames.com/live/train-sim-world/articles/article/tsw4-roadmap-part1-23rd-august I highly doubt they will move it from TSW4 to TSW5 after the enormous marketing push they made for it. It may come to TSW4 after TSW5 comes out (much like the TSW3 updates) but it won't be locked behind yet another paywall. It seems, however, that it was announced far too soon (isn't hindsight wonderful!)
To me, this suspension thing is like the eye adaptation feature. Some bright spark in Chatham decided - Oh, look at this, let's do it 'cause we can. Is anybody dying for it? For most players, it will only be noticeable when driving in the cab and, if the Pacer is anything to go by, the only thing they'll experience is motion sickness. Waste of time. I couldn't care less if it ever comes.
I'm looking forward to it, will be nice to see how immersive it is. The best suspension/point sway effect I've experienced so far is in Openbve with Anthony Bowden's Cross City South and the 323. Coupled with those excellent sounds...v nice.
