Hey everyone, it has been a hot minute, but i have returned to the DTG Forums. So i decided to make a route concept/suggestion involving Stockholm's Commuter Network, known as the 'Pendeltåg' (lit. Commuter Train) in Sweden. This will feature both the Nynäshamn - Bålsta & Södertälje to Märsta/Uppsala Lines. This will be a copy paste from my post in the TSW Reddit, with improvements compared to the Reddit thread.

Starting off with the Rolling Stock. The current trains used on the network is the Alstom Coradia Nordic, known as the X60 in Sweden. These were ordered to replace the (then) aging ASEA X1 rolling stock and to replace the 15 DB Class 420 stock that were trafficking the network, which were lent from Deutsche Bahn. There are 2 variations of this train. The X60 known as the original one of 3, was introduced in 2005, with a further 12 identical sets being made and delivered in 2012, under the name X60A.

Then there's the 2nd variation, being the X60B. These were introduced in 2016-2017, to replace the (then) aging ASEA X10 rolling stock, and to expand their fleet in time for the opening of the Citybanan (lit. City Line), in which the stations' platform doors were adapted to the X60 series. These trains included new features like power outlets for passengers & the ERTMS/ETCA signaling system, which is used in Erfurt - Leipzig route (for example). Below images will show the exterior & cab difference between the two variations + the passenger interior as well.

    Route
The network consists of two major routes. The Nynäshamn - Bålsta route, which runs from the port town of Nynäshamn to the rural town in Sigtuna, known as Bålsta and vice versa. It is known as the Nynäs Line. And there's the Södertälje - Märsta/Uppsala route. Starting from the port city of Södertälje, and ending in the town of Märsta, which was located close to the national airport, Arlanda, which runs alongside the East Coast Line

An alternate route extension was made from the station Upplands Väsby, to the nearby city of Uppsala, which meant two new stations opened. Arlanda Central, which was directly under the national Airport of Sweden, Arlanda. And Knivsta, a city with 19,000 inhabitants, situated 18 kms from the terminus of Uppsala. It runs along the East Coast Line, before diverting from the East Coast Line to the Arlanda Line, which heads towards Arlanda & Knivsta, before rejoining the ECL at Uppsala.

Of course, services like Södertälje - Bålsta & Nynäshamn - Märsta also exist, and would be entirely possible to recreate in this route, if both lines are added to it. Below will be a route map, which showcases the entire network.

    Terminus & Important Stations.
Uppsala Central Station (Uppsala C - Södertälje C)
Uppsala Central Station is a railway station in Uppsala, Sweden. It lies on the East Coast Line, which runs south to Stockholm and north to Gävle and Sundsvall. It is also the southeastern terminus for the Dala Line which runs northwest ending in Mora, as well as the most northern terminus of Stockholm's Commuter Lines 40 & 45.

There are frequent commuter services to Stockholm. Long-distance trains, connect Uppsala to the northern parts of the country. Many trains, including the Pendeltåg, also leave the main line to connect Uppsala with Stockholm-Arlanda Airport. Next to the station is a hub for the regional coach services operated by Upplands Lokaltrafik. Many local bus routes run through or near the station grounds as well, and there is a large area set aside for bicycle parking.

Märsta Station (Märsta - Södertälje C)

Märsta is a railway station located in Märsta in Sigtuna Municipality, Stockholm County, Sweden. The station is located 36.5km north of Stockholm C, on the Swedish East Coast Line. The station serves long-distance and regional SJ trains, and since 1968 has also been a northern terminus for Stockholm's commuter lines 41 & 42.

The commuter rail part of the station was built in autumn 1968, when Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL) took over responsibility for local rail transport within Stockholm County.[5] It consists of a central platform with two tracks. A ticket hall and waiting area are located on the northern part of the platform. It is a terminus station, and the entrance is at-grade with the street outside.

    Bålsta Station (Bålsta - Nynäshamn)

Bålsta is a railway station located in Bålsta in Håbo municipality, Uppsala County, Sweden. It is located 45.3 km from Stockholm Central Station on the Mälaren Line. The station serves long-distance and regional SJ trains, and is also the north-west terminus for Stockholm's commuter lines 43 & 44, despite being located just outside of Stockholm County.

The long-distance train section has two tracks and a central platform. Regional trains stop at Bålsta Station on the Gothenburg-Hallsberg-Västerås-Stockholm route. At the southern end of the main platforms there is an entrance and ticket hall to the SL commuter train section which consists of a track and a side platform.

    Arlanda Central (Uppsala C - Södertälje C)

Arlanda Central Station or Arlanda C is a railway station on the Arlanda Line serving Stockholm-Arlanda Airport in Sweden. It is served by regional, intercity, and night trains operated by SJ, and since December 2012 also by Stockholm commuter rail. Upptåget, which used to operate a commuter service between Upplands Väsby and Uppsala via Arlanda C, now only runs a few morning and night trains on weekends.

Arlanda C is located directly under SkyCity, which is between terminal 4 and 5, and is 39 kilometres (24 mi) from Stockholm Central Station. It is located in a 5-kilometre (3.1 mi) long tunnel, which is one of the longest railway tunnels in Sweden.

    Upplands Väsby (Uppsala C/Märsta - Södertälje C)

Upplands Väsby is a station on Stockholm's commuter train network's Märsta/Uppsala Line, located in Upplands Väsby municipality 24.4 km from Stockholm C. It is the only station within the municipality and is located between the stations Rotebro and Rosersberg. The station has two platforms and two ticket halls, the northern one with entrance from a subway and the southern one adjacent to the bus terminal. North of the station there is a small depot with a parking space for commuter train carriages. This is the most northern station where both the Uppsala branch & Märsta branch stop. From here, the lines split.

    Stockholm Odenplan (Both Lines)

Odenplan station is a station on both the Green Line of the Stockholm Metro and the City Line of the Pendeltåg commuter rail network. It is located at Odenplan in Vasastaden, in Stockholm city centre.

The station was inaugurated on 26 October 1952 as a part of the stretch of the Metro between Hötorget and Vällingby. It was significantly expanded in July 2017, with the opening of the City Line that provided a dedicated north-south route for the Pendeltåg, serving Odenplan on the way. Besides the new tunnels and platforms for the City Line, new station entrances were constructed, supplementing those built for the Metro. The station has two underground island platforms at different levels and on different alignments, with the City Line platforms at the lower level, with the City Line platforms having platform screen doors.

Stockholm City (Central Station, Underground. Both Lines)

Stockholm City Station is a railway station in central Stockholm, Sweden. Opened on 10 July 2017 alongside Stockholm Odenplan Station, the station is located on the Stockholm City Line and is located directly below T-Centralen (the hub of the Stockholm Metro) and interchange with Stockholm Central Station. The station serves all Stockholm Commuter Rail trains.

It is the busiest railway station in Sweden (not counting the metro). The station is located directly below T-Centralen, and allows quicker transfer between metro and commuter rail than the past solution, with the commuter trains stopping at the central station. The station is located between 35 and 40 metres (115 and 131 ft) below ground level.

    Älvsjö Station (Both Lines)

Älvsjö is a station on Stockholm's commuter train network, located in the districts of Solberga and Älvsjö in Söderort within Stockholm municipality. Älvsjö is today a branch station for the trains on the Nynäs Line and Western Main Line and is located between the stations Årstaberg (to the north), Stuvsta (Uppsala C/Märsta - Södertälje C) and Farsta strand (Bålsta - Nynäshamn) (to the south), respectively. The station has two platforms, one for each branch, and continuous tracks for long-distance and freight trains.

    Flemingsbergs Station (Uppsala C/Märsta - Södertälje C)

Flemingsberg is the name of a railway station on the Stockholm commuter rail line between Södertälje and Märsta, via central Stockholm. Trains usually departs within 15 minute intervals both ways. Certain long distance trains with destinations such as Malmö, Gothenburg and Eskilstuna also stop at Flemingsberg. Flemingsberg is one of Sweden's bigger railway stations in terms of the number of passengers.

    Farsta Strand (Bålsta - Nynäshamn)

Farsta Strand is a station on Stockholm's commuter train network, Nynäsgrenen, located in the district Farsta Strand in Stockholm municipality between the stations Älvsjö and Trångsund. The station has a platform and two ticket halls, the western with entrance from a subway and the eastern via a bridge over the tracks. When the Nynäs line was inaugurated in 1901, a station called Södertörn's residential town was established.

Since the commuter train traffic developed, the station became more important. It was renamed Farsta Strand in 1989 to provide a better connection to the district and the metro station.

Södertälje Hamn (Harbour) (Uppsala C/Märsta - Södertälje C)

Södertälje Hamn (Harbour) is a station on Stockholm's commuter train network, located in Södertälje, 36.2 km from Stockholm Central Station and 2.9 km from the final station Södertälje . Three commuter train lines serve the station. Line 40 extends from Södertälje to Uppsala C via Arlanda C, line 41 from Södertälje via Stockholm to Märsta, and line 48 runs via Södertälje Syd (South), Järna and Mölnbo to Gnesta. For technical reasons, the trains between Södertälje center and Stockholm and vice versa must change direction in Södertälje harbor, which takes about three minutes.

    Västerhaninge (Bålsta - Nynäshamn)

Västerhaninge is a station on Stockholm's commuter train network, located in Västerhaninge within Haninge municipality, 31.1 km from Stockholm C. The travel time by train to Stockholm or Nynäshamn is approximately 30 minutes.

Adjacent to the station is a bus terminal with direct changeover between train and bus. A number of SL bus lines operate the bus terminal. At the station there is also an entrance car park and a taxi rank.

    Södertälje C (Uppsala/Märsta C - Södertälje).

Södertälje center is a station on Stockholm's commuter train network, located in central Södertälje and is 38.1 km from Stockholm Central Station. It is a sack station that is the end point for a subway from Södertälje harbor.

The station is served by and is one of the termini SL's commuter lines 40, 41, 44, 48. which go to Stockholm-Upplands Väsby-Märsta (41)/Uppsala (40), Stockholm-Kungsängen-Bålsta (44) and Järna-Gnesta (48), with the train to Järna-Gnesta you can change to long-distance trains at Södertälje Syd (South).

The station is the hub for city buses in Södertälje. Bus connections are also available with other locations, such as Trosa, Vagnhärad, Nynäshamn and Strängnäs (which is outside the Stockholm County border). Since Södertälje is close to a county border, bus traffic is run by both SL and Sörmlandstrafiken. Some of these buses run via the other two stations Södertälje harbor and Södertälje Syd.

    Nynäshamn (Bålsta - Nynäshamn).

Nynäshamn is a station on Stockholm's commuter train network, located in Nynäshamn within Nynäshamn municipality and is the terminus for the Nynäs line. The station has three tracks, which end with stop bucks. Entrance to the middle platform is geographically from the north (the track runs in a half loop through the city and ends in the "wrong" direction). The station lacks an entrance building and a ticket hall, but has weather protection on the platform.

And that's it for my rather mini novel of a concept. Do let me know what you think of this

Apparently the image urls won't work. I've uploaded the rolling stock comparision, the X60B's cab & the passenger interior. I'll see if i'm not lazy enough to forget about the rest.

I'm really curious to see what's hidden behind those broken image URLs. I'd appreciate it if you could fix them. :)
