This line goes from the Swiss government city of Bern (not Capital City) via Spiez and Kandersteg (and/or the Lötschberg Basistunnel) to Brig. The line is 115,3 km (71,64 miles long) It has the next stations: - Bern* - Bern Wankdorf - Ostermundigen - Gümligen - Rubigen - Münsingen - Wichtrach - Kiesen - Uttigen - Thun* - Spiez* - Mülenen - Reichenbach im Kandertal - Frutigen - Kandersteg** - Goppenstein** - Hohtenn - Ausserberg - Eggerberg - Visp*** - Brig* *Bern, Thun, Spiez and Brig are intercity stations **Kandersteg and Goppenstein also serves Car Shuttle Trains ***Visp is served by intercity trains, which travel via the Lötschberg Basistunnel. Eyholz station (between Visp and Brig) is operated by another line on narrow gauge tracks next to the main rails. The Lötschberg Basistunnel is 37,6 km (23,4 miles long). The Lötschberg Bergstrecke tunnel is 14,6 km (9,1 miles) long. The line has... - EuroCity trains from Basel via Bern, Thun, Spiez, Visp and Brig to Italy and back. - EC 6 & 7 from Germany and Basel via Bern, Thun and Spiez to Interlaken and back (1 per day) - ICE trains from Germany and Basel via Bern, Thun and Spiez to Interlaken and back - IC 6 from Basel via Bern, Thun, Spiez and Visp to Brig and back - IC 61 from Basel via Bern, Thun and Spiez to Interlaken and back - IC 8 from Zürich via Bern, Thun, Spiez and Visp to Brig and back - IC 81 from Romanshorn and Zürich via Bern, Thun and Spiez to Interlaken and back - RE 1 from Bern via Münsingen, Thun, Spiez, Mülenen, Reichenbach im Kandertal, Frutigen, Kandersteg, Goppenstein, Hohtenn, Ausserberg and Eggerberg to Brig - R12 from Spiez via Mülenen and Reichenbach im Kandertal to Frutigen - S1 & 11 from (Freiburg and) Bern via Bern Wankdorf, Ostermundigen, Gümligen, Rubigen, Münsingen, Wichtrach, Kiesen and Uttigen to Thun and back - Car Shuttle trains from Kandersteg to Goppenstein - And lots of freight trains, some via the bergstrecke and others via the base tunnel. The Eurocity trains are operated by a corporation of SBB CFF FFS and Trenitalia with ETR610 trains. The EC 6 & 7 are usually standard SBB CFF FFS coaches with BR 460 loc. The ICE service is usually done by the ICE 4, bus the ICE 1 is possible too. The IC services are driven by the SBB CFF FFFS IC 2000 trains with Br 460 loc mostly. The RE 1 and R12 services were driven by the BLS RABe 535 "lötschbergers", but are now replaced by Flirt 4 trains. The S1 &11 services are driven by the BLS KISS trains. The BLS also serves the Car Shuttle trains with Re 4/4 locs. The line had safety systems Integra, ZUB, ETCS 1 and ETCS 2. Shortly after Bern station, the trains go over the Lorraine railway bridge. At Bern wankdorf the line split itself from the lines heading Olten. Through satellite villages and arable land, the line goes to Thun. Between Thun and Spiez you have a nice view of the Thunersee. Just after the branch to Interlaken, the trains drive through the Hondrichtunnel from 1,7 km (1 mile) long. After the tunnel, the line follows the Kander River up to Frutigen. Just bevor, some trains have driven underground through the Lötschberg Basistunnel. Between Frutigen and Kandersteg the line makes a zig zag to make attitude. In Kandersteg, you can see the loading and unloading of the Car Shuttle trains, while a road through the Lötschberg is missing. After the tunnel, the line goes overground shortly for Goppenstein Station. After the train passes several tunnels, underway to Hohtenn. With the skyline over the Rhône River the train descends to Brig. Around Ausserberg, you have the view of Visp. (Due to length of the route the part from Brig to Domodossola is not a part of the route suggestion)
This is such a cool route. And I love the old style BLS Re 4/4 locos pulling the car trains! Would be really cool to have them in this route as well.
Oh, look at this! A few months ago, I had just proposed the international section, from Domodossola to Brig. I'd also like to suggest the presence of RABe 503 EMU, EW IV coaches for Re 460 and RABe 525 EMU. Don't forget it! Excellent proposal!
From the suggested route from Brig to Domodossola I was familiar. But my favour starts in Bern due to its number of services, speed and type of trains. The 41 km long extension to Domodossola makes this destination unreachable. Besides, for passenger services, it is boring because of a lack of stations.
