About The Tablelands railway line is a railway line in North Queensland, Australia. It was opened in a series of sections between 1887 and 1916. It commences at Cairns and at its maximum extent, reached Ravenshoe at the southern end of the Atherton Tableland. The rail system served by this line was unusual for Queensland in that the majority of lines that connected to it were built by private companies and later purchased by the Queensland Government. Along the Kuranda section, there are 106 cuttings, 15 tunnels totalling a length of 1746 meters, 244 metres of steel bridge spans and 1,894 metres of timber bridges. I am recommending the section from Cairns to Mareeba, length would be 46.77 mi (75.26 km) There would be 1 main yard and several sidings, there would be limited general freight and some ore as well. Passenger services would be a daily railmotor as far as Ravenshoe (we are not going that far) twice weekly mixed train suburban services would run frequently between Cairns and Redlynch (the next town over from Cairns) there would also be the opportunity for some rail ambulance services based out of Mareeba the podcast below explains a bit about the Kuranda railway.
