I haven’t seen much discussion about this so I thought I’d ask the community:

What’s the general consensus on Tadami Line?

Obviously the first Asian DLC for TSW is big news and warrants excitement, but what do you think about the route? The train? The scenery?

    IMG_4845.jpeg

    IMG_4846.jpeg

    IMG_4847.jpeg

I’d say, superficially, it looks to be on par with just about any other TSW 4 route. I do see some custom assets and that’s got me very excited.

Naturally the first Japanese route should feel distinctly Japanese and I think UW could very well deliver! It looks wholly unique with the torii gates, the 7-11, and whatever that structure is in the top right of the first photo.

Seriously looks like nothing else in the simulator so far and I’m looking forward to a potential day one purchase.

Looks absolutely stunning. I’m sure there is a waterfall somewhere on the route with a bridge. Looking forward to seeing that part.

I really need to watch a cab ride again on YouTube.
It’s been a while since I saw it.

    Niddertalbahn vibes, this looks promising.

Dare I say better than Fife.

Could be nice but it has to be said they are quite similar to the look of the TSC version. UW have not always been that great when it comes to the trains, particularly sound, though their Tokyo Commuter stock was fair.

I'm confident on this route. I believe it'll come with the KiHa 40 railcars. It will also be the first time that 1067mm/3ft 6in gauge will be used in TSW. I'm hoping for the presence of all three liveries (orange, blue/cream and dual-tone green/white) on this units. It will be interesting... It's not every day you can travel 88km/55mi on a single track!

I do remember that area when Matt streamed the TSC version a long time ago. Looked fantastic even then.

Yes exactly. Diesel multiple units on quiet scenic single track branch lines. What a wonderful way to put it.

While I don’t own Fife… I’ll be decent and say it’s not a fair comparison. Even in its current undevelopedness, Tadami is in a better state than Fife was after release!

This is conflicting because, watching him drive the route on a stream, Matt seems to love UW and said that they have a unique style to their routes, which I can appreciate. Not sure what to believe now.

Guess I can only wait a thousand years for a preview stream… :D

This would be directly competing with Blackpool Branches in terms of having multiple liveries for one train! I’d be surprised to see it again honestly.

I do hope they have planned a weathering pass on the assets. Japan is clean, but it isn't that clean!

I very much agree. Nothing like a little weathering to really sell that realism. The scenery is dense though and I really like it.

I very much like what I’m seeing. A little too cleanly perhaps as others said above me but I do like the atmosphere in the screenshots. It seems like there’s a lot of attention to detail in the scenery.

Maybe a touch too clean , like most tsw routes. I hope they take their time with the map and the train.

Even if japanese content isnt my thing, ill buy it when done properly.

Yep. Hope I’m not speaking too soon but it does seem as if UW is taking their time on this particular project. Perhaps prioritizing using the tools correctly and efficiently instead of rushing to meet a deadline. :) My anticipation for this one is very strong.

Hadn’t noticed the cleanliness problem before it was pointed out, now it can’t be unseen. The route is in desperate need of weathering.

    Also, very admirable POV.

The “even if _____ isn’t quite my thing I’ll still give it a try” attitude is something I hardly ever see here.

If new NPCs are also modelled as realistically as the route looks already, it will be a definite buy for me.

This also makes you wonder how the NPCs will look on this route. Will they look Japanese or will they just use the same character models we have currently.

Im assuming it will be japanese themed. Dtg made custom dressed models for their steam routes, not brand new models.

This is also a phenomen of many Rivet routes, even DTGs.

The danger if making look something too clean is, that its not far away from a toy/playmobile.

The grass looks very nice from the screenshots.

Way too clean is also my first impression. Looks like this line was built yesterday and is not yet operational. It's way cleaner than most routes in TSW and most routes in TSW are clean.

It's still a WIP, the sign they showed in the first set of screenshots was heavily weathered so I wouldn't worry too much

This looks like the japanese niddertalbahn and im very excited for it. Hope we can get something big with a JR electric after it

It’s coming along nicely and should be a very distinctive route. Their stuff for TSC is generally appreciated by most. Looking forward to more Japanese routes, we’re gradually expanding from the big 3 and long may that continue.

Those screenshots look superb, can't wait to see its release.
    Scenery
Tadami line is famous for its beatuiful scenery, especially the beautiful fresh greenery and autumn leaves among the valley of Tadami river. In addition, the Daiichi Tadami River Bridge (would appear in game) is consistently ranked among the top three famous bridges in Japan. These sights along the line have been spread overseas through social media, and attracted were many foreign tourists. Hope that UW can present a high level scenry for us since the most beatuiful section of Tadami line is inclued in their addon for TSW.

    Tadami line among Tadami River
But there is a problem, those the screenshot look too clean as if the Tadami line was built last week, but I believe it UW would make adjustment during the development process, and we can expect more weathered props at the time of its release.

Today, there are two kind of DMU operated on Tadami Line, KiHa 110 and KiHa E120.

    KiHa 110
Sadly, the famous KiHa 40, which appeared in TSC version of Tadami line, has retired on July 2020. So if the Tadami line is set in today, we can't see kiHa 40, we can only see KiHa 110 and KiHa E120, but I am not sure if there would make all of them or just one of them.

The route map of Tadami line, the section between Aizu-Wakamatsu and Tadami is chosed by UW.
Despite the Tadami line is still far from release, I believe it would be a nice addon, if they can get JR East's license, it would be even better.

By the way, since it's located in Fukushima Prefecture, I think it was seriously damaged in 2011, right? And it only reopened in 2019/20. Hopefully it's officially branded, but I don't think so. On TSC the liveries are fictitious.

Yes, it was seriously damaged in July 2011 due to a heavy rain, some bridges on Tadami River were washed away. The section between Aizu-Kawaguchi and Tadami was reopened on October 2022.

It won't be, JR is pretty strict on licensing to non Japanese companies, so don't expect any brands.

Think the only company allowed to use their branding are Ongakukan, for their "drive the video clip" products, certainly JR East anyway.

BVE etc. was obviously just a free for all!

I hope UW do this area justice, it looks absolutely stunning especially in the autumn.

Extremely unfortunate the KiHa 40s had to be replaced. But I like the look of the newer units. Especially the boxy KiHa 110.

Agreed. :) Are there any good reasons this line was chosen? Is it a complete line?

I do recall someone mentioning heavy damage in a TSC stream a while ago, I had no clue it reopened so recently.

I really hope the trains are officially branded. I’m not a huge fan of unbranded/fictitious liveries.

This whole thing about branding is so unfortunate. Why is JR so reluctant to lend licenses to non-Japanese brands?

It's probably best for them to start slow. It's scenic, not a lot of traffic to worry about. It's single tracked. They can really focus on the scenery, track and trains without having to create a very busy timetable. Not that it's any easier to create a scenic slow route but this is what they're starting with

As I remarked earlier they have an official simulation partner with Ongakukan, even though their video format leaves much to be desired compared to a proper game engine.

The TSC version was very pretty and was nice to drive.

I'll be buying this route for definate, but my concerns would be how much of a timetable there is as its a single line with station loops similar to Niddertalbahn and what variety of trains will be included. In many ways the route is going to have the same feel as Niddertalbahn, which is beautiful and a nice relaxing drive. I just hope there's enough gameplay to want to keep going back to the route.

That’s the only problem, replayability such as on the otherwise excellent recent London Overground release, which is really too short to go back to once you’ve driven it several times.
I’m not a fan of short single lines with passing loops unless there are enough roadside industries to bring some freight work onto the line. But I think in this case being the first Japanese route it won’t matter too much as it’ll be such a new experience. It also looks very scenic which helps compensate. Bringing both current units to the game would enhance the route, maybe one as dlc. I’ll definitely be buying it as it’s a new nation.

This one however won't be short. It will be 88 km and I think the max. line speed is 60 km/h, so over one hour and half going one way. If I remember correctly some TSC scenarios are divided in 2 parts to get from one end to another (unless it was on a similar route). In the TSC scenarios I think I've been passing 2 trains going from the other side, so there might be 1 train per hour one way (2TPH both ways). There however won't be sidings and only 1 DMU, although could be in multiple liveries.

As far as I'm aware there's been no suggestion that Union Workshop/DTG has asked JR East and the answer was "no".
The timetable will be much thinner than Niddertalbahn's. Here's the number of trains from the current Tadami line timetable (Down, Up) - according to Wikipedia and the 1999 timetable I'm labelling for Timetable World the timetable has changed little over the years:
    • Three round trips Aizu-Wakamatsu - Tadami (these continue off the map to Koide)
    • Three round trips Aizu-Wakamatsu - Aizu-Kawaguchi
    • One round trip Aizu-Wakamatsu - Aizu-Bange
That makes fourteen services total, plus depot services. If Union Workshop wanted to they could bend reality a bit and use JR East stock for the Aizu Railway services that run on the Tadami line on the 3km section between Aizu-Wakamatsu and Nishi-Wakamatsu - that would add around ten to twelve short round trips.

So it'll be long (which is good) and quiet as opposed to short and busy like the Overground. If the scenery is decent that won't bother me.

People do need to manage their expectations with UW and not think too much on how much they can include.

The original route on TSC had only 1 train, but 3 liveries.

It is their 1st route, and a nice quiet route like this will help them get familiar with TSWs editor.

I wonder about when it will come. DTG provided us WIP screenshots already on the February roadmap.

Now new screenshots again, but still no announcement.

I mean I absolutely understand the time it needs for creating a route, but I wonder why in comparison to other third party projects of the past and present, we don't see as much screenshots before and just got a new route announced when it's ready but here things are different.

Dtg said the route is very early in development and a long time away. Remember it took jt over a year to release blackpool. Union workshop is creating a longer route that also has much more scenery.

I'm not really a fan of single track routes which have only one train and virtually no AI traffic. As well as Niddertalbahn was crafted, I soon got rather bored with it to be truthful.
I'll keep an open mind, but I'm thinking this route may not be for me.

Crosstie, I agree, l got tired of Niddertalbahn for the same reason, but the scenery is first class as this line looks to be too. Has a place in the game and certainly better than Rivet produce!
