The Tamar valley line is a 14 mile branch line off of the Cornish Mainline. With tight corners, barrierless level crossings with halt boards, dramatic scenery and steep grade changes as well as a cab switch at Bere Alston it makes for an interesting little run. Route Information Starting in Plymouth, the service runs along the CML to Keyham before branching off at Victoria Road. From there the route runs underneath the Tamar Bridge and along the Tamar and up to Bere Alston. Switch cabs, manually set the points before continuing down the line, across the Calstock Viaduct before making the slow, winding climb up to Gunnislake. Originally the route continued to Callington from Gunnislake as well as Okehampton from Bere Alston. In fact there is talk of reopening the line between Okehampton and Bere Alston as an alternative route in the event the Dawlish seawall becomes unusable.
