Hi All, Just wanted to express my enjoyment for the Taurus Mountains route which is currently 50% in the Steam sale. I've been interested in this since it's release but have put off buying as I was waiting for a decent discount. It's great to see a route not in the typical UK/DE/USA and based in Southern Turkey, it is very different indeed. I've only done the tutorials and started the 'Introduction' scenario so far but the amount of detail in both the loco/route and unique assets is astounding. I don't know much about this area of the world however the Introduction scenario has some lovely facts and details which show the importance of the line complete with images which isn't something I've really witnessed in TSC before. I haven't even driven a quarter of the route yet but just wanted to share my recommendation for this route for anyone on the fence or who is looking for a change of scenery. On that note, distant and nearside scenery is very good. I really hope 3rd party devs continue to support TSC with these kinds of routes as it really raises the bar for quality and goes to show how the platform is still very much relevant. Big thumbs up for Taurus Mountains!
Its is probably one of the best 3rd party routes you can get for TSC on steam. Alot of nice details and operations on it. Obviously not financially viable to "other" 3rd party devs, but it would be nice if more routes were as detailed as it was.
Sale is already over ... something besides the trodden tracks would be nice, even for a change of scenery Unfortunately, most of these efforts remain one offs. At least this seems a pure TSC effort, unlike the recent MSTS/Trainz conversions from Milepost which show their heritage. Would love to have more of the South Africa cape gauge network, including Rhodesia/Zimbabwe/Namibia Beyer Garratt's, but after two (I believe) MSTS conversions got released, the dev's lost interest. Same with the narrow gauge New Zealand route, which got one loco DLC.
I think that one of the things this route really captures is that sense of journey/discovery - trundling along into the unknown - I don't know many (if any!) other routes that this kind of feel. I also picked up the Tadami and Hidaka lines in the sale which have a similar vibe.
Actually, Midland Mainline NZ has more than 2 locos. Is it something to do with the way the locos are driven that at about 6:00 the brakes are applied with the throttle open?
I can see that on the HUD but the Power level is still around 50% It is not normal on most locos to apply the brakes to slow the train down when you are still applying power. I did not know if these TCCD locos were different - hence my question
The throttle is different to any other loco that I have driven and is spring-loaded. You have to hold it on full power to increase and hold it on no power to reduce. When you let the throttle go it self-centres. I'm still getting used to this setup hence me braking with power still on. I hope this explains it to you,
Tab + D will also automatically drop off all power and revs from the throttle. I've been caught out trying to turn off the throttle manually and apply brakes which can end up with a noticeable lag in stopping!
Here is another short video at night time climbing up the mountain. (1) Train Simulator Classic 2024 - YouTube After the station at the end there are quite a few long tunnels.
