It would be nice If DTG did teasers for the upcoming event that's schedule less than two weeks. From routes, locos, new features.....To me this was something that Rivet games did well with Edinburg and Glasgow DLC.
Yes, I must admit I did enjoy trying to figure out the Rivet unit and was very happy with myself when I guessed it right!
Did wonder if some of the recent tweets were hinting at things. For instance, today: “ Whistle-stop wonders! ️ Which remote and breathtaking destination would you love to reach via an old-fashioned train journey? ”
Do you have a link to it. Sorry, I don't disbelieve you but I want to have a dig into it a bit further as it may be promoting SoS or PFR.
I think dtg are just promoting their dlc rather than teasing content. Don't think dtg would leak it like that showing off the entire consist/rolling stock and scenery as a leak since they've never done that before
We had teaser before. (Recently the PIS showing Thameslink for the Class 700/0 or the teasers for MSB and other route). I would like to see some teasing. It could be an "official" one like MSB or more subtile like the 700/0. Honestly I like both option
Yep, less than 2 weeks away and no teasers, which does take some of the fun of the build up away, so I do hope we'll start seeing some in the days leading up. Not sure why these things are so hush-hush, it's not as if they have any real competition! Despite all the bugs and sometimes questionable decision making, TSW is a fantastic game and life is all the richer for it.
The Epic Files was already a huge teaser. Matt's meme replies also have been revealing so I count them also as teasers
It's hush hush as it probably isn't ready until the 11th hour and they want the ability to change the scope of what's planned. That Dresden line U turn did a lot of harm on the promotion front I'd say and as such it's only announced when done. Competition wise they know there's little to be looking over their shoulders at.
That Twitter image just looks like the WSR, nothing unique about it. Yes it needs a layer for the 4F and a GWR pack but that sits at a lower pay grade than the summer “big three”. Whistle stop - h’mmm. Could be Berney Arms on the Wherry Lines. That would be an interesting departure from the expectations of one handled wonder of the southern ECML. Could be Kinbrace on the Far North Line, yes DTG have pulled out all the stops and done a steam/diesel transition Far North and Kyle line in its entirety. Or perhaps Penhelig on the Cambrian Coast, with a reskinned and re-interior of the SHG Class 158.
Cambrian would be great but in 1988 please (Summer) I wish they would do a playpen ECML south just to get the noise down. Quite what people want one of the dullest routes with one handled trains is beyond me. Set it in 1980 when you could thrash the Deltics, 40s, HSTs etc through the tunnels. Now it's just a tunnel of full dull. The Kyle line done properly would be outstanding. 3 trains a day and 4 in Summer mind....
That is the only issue north of Inverness, though you go back far enough and there was still significant freight plus excursion traffic. Still technically busier than Cane Creek!
Hahaha! Edinburg! XD Edinburgh to Glasgow I think you mean. Yes, I'd love that! Rivet did a great job with teasing the route! Would love it if dtg did this!
Teasers would be great but I think we'd be pretty good at solving them...unless they were an Only Connect level of difficulty. As for Vern's Wherry Lines shout.. Not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised we'd see that route in the not too distant.
I just don't find them all that interesting to drive personally. They all handle badly with sluggish acceleration, terrible braking, tend to not look great, and the engine audio gives me a headache. The only early diesels I like are the Class 08, and sometimes the 37. I only really like the later Diesels like the 158, 166, and the HST. I'll take an electric train any day of the week over the early diesels. Fast acceleration, good braking. Good audio that doesn't give me tinnitus. The US M3 and M7s, The 395, 465, 323, 700, all the electrostars are much more enjoyable experiences. If I want a more difficult driving experience, or something more vintage I'll go for Steam, which is also much more fun to drive, and a much nicer soundscape.
So you don’t like a challenge? The overpowered electric units with one handle and hardly any sound are characterless IMHO. But each to their own and there should be space in TSW for all.
Definitely - apart from the HST a lot of BR Era Diesel locomotives are hard to drive, the DMUs on the other hand are quite easy to drive. It’s not even only diesels, the electric locos are hard the 86s and 87s are difficult. Unless you have a good knowledge of the loco don’t drive BR diesels because they will drive you. And steam is even worse, steam is extremely difficult, that’s why I don’t bother with steam routes tbh
I love a challenge, that's why I drive steam lol. Hauling freight trains up peak forest while managing steam, and trying to keep decent times is a big challenge. Electrics have plenty of character and sound, they just don't deafen you at every opportunity.
OldVern is going to be extremely displeased with your comments, wouldn't be surprised if he sends the heavies in to re-educate you and delete all your non-UK diesel DLC and make you play it until you appreciate the dirty diesel!
There's a reason they are objectively the bad guys in Thomas the Tank Engine. That's more than enough reason to not drive them.
I love the rusty BR Diesels, but I´ve always wondered why on Earth the steamers on SoS and PFR seem to have easier to handle and overall better brakes than a, say Class 31 or 40. Is this prototypical?
I always felt bad for Diesel and didn't like how Thomas and others looked down on him. (Note: only saw the older stuff as a kid I dunno if modern Thomas is a bit more accepting of other modes of locomotion)
They seem to be hinting at historic routes at present with incredible architecture. Lets hope West Coast over Shap!!!
That's what makes them fun! My jaw is sitting on the floor. Ok it's now downstairs on the kitchen floor. In all seriousness it took me more time to master the Electrostars than the BR diesels as I have never known them. The HSTs were the easiest for me, though even getting them sorted in game took longer than I expected!
Anyhow to keep on topic there is a lovely pub (which I can highly recommend) called 'The Whistle Stop' alongside the ECML, though that is north of Peterborough so wouldn't fit the predicted Kings Cross to Peterborough section.
To be fair, it's primarily because the early diesels give me a headache in about 5 minutes, 100% of the time. Causing me physical pain makes it quite hard to like/enjoy them lol. I do try from time to time though, currently doing this:
I love the older stuff! The BR Diesels being difficult to drive is great imo! I spent an hour just approaching the same station with the 101 to figure out how best to use the brakes. Learning that and the 31 was just rewarding and I felt like I'd achieved something! Same with steam to an extent but as Vern says I think they do need to sort the simulation and make it less arcade like Somehow the older stuff feels more interesting to me personally Although I do only play UK Content so I know German stuff is much more challenging with PZB etc
Turn the volume down? Honestly don’t know how people can’t like the sound of pure thrashing diesel engines but each to there own
If I turn the volume down, it affects all the audio and noises, and I'd have to turn it back up for all the other trains. It's not that it's too loud, its the pitch/frequency or something. It just induces headaches in me every single time. Like the 158, 166 and HST are all fine. As are the US freight trains. It's just the 37, 40 etc that do it lol.
I thought that this tweet was quite strange since (correct me if I’m wrong) I’ve never seen DTG advertise the suggestions sub-forum on social media like that before. Also, the random Train Sim classic screenshot is a little weird. It's probably nothing and I’m overthinking things, but then again, DTG teased TSW3 by literally giving us ciphertext that needed a decryption algorithm to decrypt.
I know I ask every time but I can't ever remember the answer. But have you tried the 45s or 47s as they aren't quite as obtrusive to the ears as the 37s, 40s etc so will be less likely to cause you problems. Also that screenshot is wonderful, and TVL is a gorgeous route which I think has aged very well.
Out of the TVL and NTP trains the only ones that really seem to not cause me issues are the Class 08, Class 20 and Class 101. I'm not even sure why, as I've never had issues with audio causing me headaches in anything before. Yeah I love the aesthetics of TVL, I really want another UK industrial route, as I like running freight. Llanwern Steel works and Port Talbot on the South Wales Main line would be amazing for example. Although I'm local, so slightly biased.
I think a 70s or 80s East Midland coal network would be excellent, there was a TSC route which was something like this and it was a real treat!
I'm autistic and pitch/frequency definitely affects me and can give me headaches. What I do is I play some brown noise I'm background while playing. The brown noise helps to focus and kind of mellow out other background noise like motor whine. Obviously since I'm autistic your mileage may vary but works like a charm for me.
I think they are doing teasers but it's very subtle. Read between the lines..... https://www.facebook.com/trainsimworld/ https://www.facebook.com/trainsimwo...kTSabDvtXvjAY3nn8kn8Ejt8jVgr57tBRpV4PJwoy7Jnl Another post has Darley Dale station from Peak Forest, polling simmers/facebookers on what is the best/favourite station architecture they have
Looking at something historic, maybe the survey had an uptick in players wanting to see historic routes. I wonder. https://www.facebook.com/trainsimwo...BTomtN3V55L2q5mKFzU6mJjaS5BBbWdV4UJpTAKxLRwrl
I hope those are not teasers. My anticipation already dropped to zero. Next up teasers for an American freight route and it will go in the negatives
Sorry mate Donner Pass or Marias Pass will be here by December. We have loads of passenger routes. Time for some freights.
I dunno if anyone from DTG is reading this but can you do another 24hr live stream like you did with TSW3 please? That was really fun, caused alot of good speculation and really upped the hype. Would be cool if you did something similar again this year!
