Having downloaded the free LGV route I thought it added a layer to SEH in the form of a stationary TGV at St Pancras. Have not seen it yet. Or am I missing something?

It is a very rare occurrence. There is one AI service that goes between St. Pancras and Ashford, and one player drivable service. Probably depends on which month you are playing on though.

IIRC it doesn't run all year. You need to choose the specific months when it appears as AI to see it.

PS: It is all explained in this article. TL;DR: Those services only run in march and april around the middle of the day.

I'd recommend running the services. Although it's not that realistic as our TGV doesn't have the British safety systems it is still fun to be able to go at full line speed instead of just 140mph with the Javelin.

The TGV is fitted with both TVM430 and KVB which are the two safety systems of HS1.

Also the TGVs door height is too low for UK platforms.

How does the Eurostar door height work for UK and EU platform heights.

With steps stairs, in France there’s multiple platforms height and at Paris Nord it’s quite low.

Indeed but surely it needs AWS/TPWS for the section into St Pancras?

The short portion between the tunnel and St Pancras is equipped with KVB

The HS lines out of St Pancras were designed for the Eurostar and have KVB/TVM all the way.

I think it needs AWS and TPWS for Ashford International.

I read somewhere that is not the case, although the C373 was fitted with AWS that was because it operated out of Waterloo initially, which also meant it could be used on the ECML in GNER colours, however the Eurostar E320 is apparently not fitted with AWS.

You are correct. Ashford tracks got refurbished in 2018 so don't need AWS any more

Well, technically TGVs run in and out of St P every day (the Eurostars are TGVs). As for the demo dog-and-pony show: ithe TGV (a yellow TGV Postal train, not a Duplex or passenger version) was towed not because it couldn't do it on its own, but because it didn't meet the peculiar safety standards required by the Chunnel.

That doesn't explain why it got towed all the way from Ashford to St Pancras. What was the reasoning for that does anyone know?

Maybe it wasn't fitted with AWS, so couldn't get through Ashford (which in 2012 did required trains to have AWS)?
Maybe it didn't have the correct Electrical system for CTRL?

It wasn’t approved to run on HS1 and it wasn’t worth it to do so just for a day even though it can run under 25kV AC and is fitted with KVB/TVM 430. Another reason is that the TVM on the Channel tunnel is different from the LGV/HSL that’s the reason it was towed, even the Vigirail IRIS 320 ( inspection TGV set for LGVs ) are towed while going to the UK.

It's notable that it raised it pantograph and drew power in St Pancras Station for its electronics.

From research it seems just like MYH92 says, that it simply wasn't signed off to run safely. The fire regulations in the tunnel no doubt added extra restrictions as all trains have to have a certain amount of redundancy so they can get themselves out of trouble.
