Before I start, I know Cross City hasn't been released yet, but this suggestion is for a while after Cross City releases Hello, I would like to suggest the British Rail Class 170 for Birmingham Cross City Line as it would provide a different driving experience compared to the 323 as the 170 is a diesel train and has different stopping patterns than the 323 has I would like the 170 in WMR orange and white and have AP sounds as they are fantastic and deserved to be implemented on this train Training: (In Training Center) Class 170 Introduction Scenarios: Birmingham Direct: (Difficulty - 1) Drive a 170 fast from Bromsgrove to Birmingham New Street on an express service, no 323s should delay you on this run, so expect all greens to Birmingham Lichfield Rarity: (Difficulty - 3) A 323 has broken down earlier in the day while working a Lichfield Trent Valley service which was terminated at New Street and WMR have a spare 170 so you are taking over that service from Birmingham New Street to Lichfield Trent Valley, a section rarely covered by WMR Turbostars, plus to add to your misery, it is pouring of rain, so if you are not careful, it'll be wheelslip a plenty for you Slow Turbo: (Difficulty - 2) Drive a 170 from Birmingham New Street to Bromsgrove calling at University, Barnt Green and Bromsgrove but the unit you are rostered to take only has fuel left for this trip and it has to get back to Tyseley after forming this run so your maximum speed is 60 mph meaning you have to traverse the slow lines between Kings Norton and Bromsgrove alongside the 323 stopping services Timetable: 2019 Working Timetable as per original route timetable I hope you enjoyed reading this suggestion, if you have any questions or want to give more information which I haven't included in this suggestion, reply to the suggestion below and I'll be sure to reply to whatever you need
I would love to see the class 170. It could also layer onto other routes in southern livery. We need more DMU's so I think this is a great choice!
Good idea but: BML: AI only but no point because you will only see it between East Croydon and South Croydon so only a few minutes ECW: Can have playable services but 170s have BSI couplers and 171s have Dellner couplers like the Electrostars so couplings need changing
Okay, but still. Great for liveries. If it gets made the first thing I'm going to do is make a ScotRail Livery.
I don't think Cross City would provide a good enough opportunity to use it very well - you would be confined to semi-fast runs that last about 20 to 30 minutes across only half a route. A turobstar would be better included with another route, where it would be the main focus, then layered back onto Cross City as appropriate.
Yeah fair point, the Turbostar will only be used from Birmingham New Street to Bromsgrove, one example of a 170 focused route is Scarborough-Hull via Filey and Bridlington then the 170 out of that would layer onto BCC albeit in WMR livery instead of Northern livery
That is actually a great route idea. New operator, new area of England and a new train with lots of layer potential. Though with all due respect, some of the names of the towns and villages you stop at along the way sound almost satirically English- Bempton? Driffield? Nafferton? Hutton Cranswick?
Yeah, thanks, for the Turbostar you have many services you can drive and covering an area of England not covered in TSW yet, that is an absolute bombshell of a route suggestion
Uh, yes it does, between Birmingham New Street and Bromsgrove before heading towards Hereford, Malvern or Worcester
TrainGeek08, just ignore this guy. He keeps spewing random information on the forums that isn't true. If you look at his previous posts then you can tell
It would be a fantastic addition to BCC if it also added more of the Hereford line down to at least Worcester, perhaps even the Malverns or beyond... I'm sure a train DLC would sell more if it added a whole new section to the route, and there's a great opportunity to do that here, particularly as Hereford-New Street might not otherwise arrive as its own route (because people would definitely complain that they already paid for the Bromsgrove to Brum section).
170's also work the Cross Country Nottingham to Cardiff service, albeit would be AI only without an artificial stop at Bromsgrove. Plus the XC licensing issue.
Yeah, if XC didn't have the licensing issue, then surely they would make a 170 AI only layer maybe as DLC
Agreed the 170 would be better used elsewhere as this route is really the commuter route and anything else would be an AI layer. The 170 gets all over the place so there's plenty of scope to have it added in later
Yep, I'm thinking about making a Hull-Scarborough route suggestion which includes the 170 as the base train
One Unique feature of Class 170 is that you can combine with a Class 150 DMU due to both being BSI Coupler Equipped. Here's a Class 150 DMU on Lickey Incline seen on here is 150 002 on Lickey Incline . Option 2 for Class 170 is TSC Fife Circle route with the Forth Bridge
I've seen a few in Northern, of course CrossCountry and in the midlands. It's about having the right routes, but this train is as ubiquitous outside of London as the Electrostar is within London, same with the 158
