Probably my first time I've made my presence known in these forums, so let me know if I'm doing something wrong. Anyway, I was recently thinking about something when I noticed the ECML diesel railtour announcement, which prominently features YET ANOTHER mainline certified Class 47, which if you've been paying attention, is the 47 named Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Honestly though, I think it may be one Class 47 too many, considering how many we've got in TSW already. But hey, those that want this particular 47, I won't stop you from getting it when it eventually comes out, but a new locomotive I'd like to see is this: Those that have seen this will know what this is and what I'm talking about: the Class 55 Deltic, the locomotive that it's been said others call "Sir". The 55 had seen use on the ECML, and in the later years, they had gained the AWS equipment, the GSMR, and the high-intensity headlamp as shown here. Dunno about you guys, but I'd at least like to see one of the mainline certified Deltics in TSW5, even ones that have been on the mainline before but are no longer operating, like King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry in its two-tone green with the yellow panel at the ends, and the white windows, something like this.
the ECML Railtour pack SHOULD have included the Deltic (even if it was only the preserved, mainline certified ones) but no, we got a Western-based Class 47 that has never ran on the ECML nor has it been operating in preservation
Let’s hope Athena consider this when deciding on their next project. Despite the repeat calls, there appears to be slim chance DTG or another team are going to pick this up. It’s frustrating as not having a Deltic in the game is a bit like releasing FIFA (or whatever it is called now), without including Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi. I also believe if the dlc was done to a high standard, perhaps using AP sounds as well, it could easily demand a £20-£30 price tag - which I would happily pay!!.
Perhaps the reason they did it like that is because the 47 model was already made with the release of the Trans-Pennine route.........or is it the Diesels of the Great Western one that came out first? Either way, it's a model that's readily available for DTG to use, which is kind of a shame really, given that there are more locos out there that are mainline certified, but I don't think some of them realize that, in doing so, they're missing opportunities.
The Deltic would have definitely been a far better option for ECML Railtours. IKB was a Western Region based locomotive more at home around Paddington to Reading, even on Rivet Games West Cornwall Local route.
Class 55 Deltics are needed in game. They were main passenger power on the ECML in the 1960s-70s. Some Deltics are preserved and a few are operational.
The 47 did run to Doncaster for works and maintenance.. you would know that if u read the page about it..
Honestly, they could've been talking about when they were still working for a living. Deltics were often found across the ECML when they were still working for a living, and I've not heard anyone say that a 47 was on the ECML in revenue service. Preservation and railtours are another matter, as Flying Scotsman never went to Paddington in her heyday, only after being preserved. Be that as it may, we still need a little more V A R I E T Y. Then again, I could've just repeated what was said above.
I did read it but I'm not counting her trips to and from Doncaster nor the time(s) she ran ad-hoc services from Doncaster or York
If we are to get a Deltic in the game then it must come in an era appropriate route DLC and not just for railtours on modern routes. Although the ECML railtour pack that’s coming will be okay for that one Class 47, a scenario only railtour experience would not be a good DLC for a Deltic, even with substitution into every diesel railtour already in the game. Those are squeezed into modern timetables and have modern stock passing and that’s not what you want for a good Deltic experience. You need to be going full speed and be surrounded by other Deltics and their peers from their active service years in a full TSW timetable. It can substitute where appropriate for railtours in other routes as well but only being in railtours would be a rather watered down experience. And ideally it should be made by Just Trains in order to do it (and its route) justice.
TBH, I can see Just Trains doing a 1970s/early 1980s ECML route just so we can have the Deltic in game.
Yes if I managed Just Trains I would be running a slide rule and my calculator over the Deltics. An iconic loco that all players of a certain age would want in game. (I would imagine most of us would pay top dollar for it. Ditto a CL25).
A Deltic and a Class 25 (or 26 for Scotland) would be amazing. I mean kudos to Athena for what they are doing, but ultimately without a new and iconic loco, it’s just a reskin and scenario pack.
It's amazing how DTG have churned out DLC after DLC but still not produced Britain's two most celebrated express locos of the post war years - the Deltic and the Hoover. It makes no sense. Both have preservation societies that would give DTG extensive access to the real thing - much easier than getting data on NR operational stock that's in daily use.
Would be great to a deltic in game though it would need its own route for its full potential, hopefully just trains makes it.
In case they don't, one stretch I'd suggest is the so-called racing stretch between York and Newcastle, kinda like TSW's version of the route from TSC. And hey, if we're lucky, we could hop to the Tees Valley from Darlington, provided it's set in the same period.
