Experience the Scottish highlands and journey to the edges of England with tsw2 Inverness To Wick and Thurso

    THE ROLLING STOCK

Scot Rail operates a fleet of forty Class 158 " Express " DMUs. These are allocated between Corker hill Depot (formerly Haymarket) and Inverness Depot. The units are primarily used on long-distance rural services as well as short distance commuter services within the Central Belt.
these run 52 services between Inverness And Wick And Thurso

this would be an amazing addition to tsw2 as you get to see the beautiful Scottish highlands

It would be great but the full route is over 4 hours, so rather unlikely. Distance wise is around the 80 mile mark.

Would love to see it, just think it’s very unlikely.

Actually Inverness to Wick is 161 miles with a further 6 miles from Georgemas to Thurso. It would be magnificent, set back in the era of Class 26 and Class 37 haulage but less than 30 miles currently seems DTG's current optimum route length. However Inverness to Invergordon ought to be possible, albeit not really a scenic section, but set in the early to mid 70's there was a fair bit of freight traffic on that section. Inverness to Lairg (67 miles) would be better, but pushing it.

What might be doable IMHO would be an Inverness "district", say Aviemore to Dingwall (around 48 miles) which would give you the thrash over Schlod Summit in both directions, shunting at Milburn Yard and the North line around the Cromarty Firth.

I thought it was more! Trainline says 78 miles but that didn’t seem right.

As the crow flies, or these days the A9 drives probably that, but with both the Lairg loop then the long trek up the Strath Of Kildonan then across those magnifcent moors from Forsinard to Georgemas, it's much further by train.
