Travelling for around 87 miles, the line between London Kings Cross and Kings Lynn has a variety of traction that utilises this route, although not all of it can be included within this DLC Proposed Rolling Stock Class 365 in First Capital Connect livery Introduced in the 1990’s, the Class 365’s operated far and wide out of London Kings Cross to places such as Peterborough, Cambridge & Kings Lynn up until early 2022. Class 91 in East Coast livery Introduced when the East Coast Mainline was electrified in 1989, the Class 91’s have proved themselves to be reliable workhorses, albeit a bit slow on the acceleration side. 31 of the Class were built alongside matching Mk4 coaches and DVT’s, and are currently being slowly phased out in favour of newer Class 80x IET classes. Class 170 in Abellio Greater Anglia & Cross Country liveries Introduced in the early 2000’s, Bombardier’s Turbostar family has gone on to be one of the most successful modern railway designs, with variants of the Class 168, 170, 171 & 172 finding use with Chiltern Railways, Cross Country, East & West Midlands Railways, Transport for Wales, ScotRail & Southern. The TfW fleet originally belonged to Abellio pre 2020, but with a need for units and an identical livery, TfW decided to nab them at the end of their lease. Most of the Cross Country units have spent their time working for Cross Country and it’s predecessor Central Trains, with some units recently receiving extra carriages from the West Midlands Railway fleet to boost capacity.
