    Moin,

The LINT is a family of diesel multiple units which is being manufactured since the late 90s by Alstom, and is used on branchlines and unelectrified mainlines more or less all over Germany by DB and dozens of their private competitors. It comes, as of now, in five base versions, spread over two generations:

First the first generation: This comprises the classes 648 and 640.

The 648, also known as the LINT 41 for its length of 41 meters is a two-car unit with a joint and a jacobs bogie in the middle:

The class 640 - the LINT 27 - is a single-car unit with cabs on both ends, but otherwise identic.

    Both 648 and 640 share a common driver's cab:

In the mid to late 2000s, the second generation of LINTs came about, with a facelift and a few other changes. Three versions of those are available: First the renewed LINT41, known as the VT623 with DB, while most privates indeed retain the VT648 designation:

Also introduced with the update were two lenghtened versions, both of which get rid of the Jacobs bogie instead feature two full fledged bogies under each segment. First there is the VT622, or LINT 54 - the number again tells the length over coupler:

And then finally, there's the LINT 81 (VT620), which takes the two halves of the 54 and puts a middle section between them.

Sencond generation boss office: Not many changes, but a few there are.

The passenger compartment recieved a more thorough overhaul though:
