While the expiration of the Caltrain license will still leave routes for sale that will allow players to run variants of every other Peninsula Corridor locomotive, the MP15, it would seem is suddenly going to be both no longer available and, even if you could buy it, without a "home route" to run it on. I actually really enjoy that DLC and feel it's very well done, and I think it'd be a shame to see it disappear for new players. That's the main point of this post, but I'd also like to ask others with more RL train knowledge if any of the other existing North American routes might see MP15s used. If they could keep the loco available for sale with a new coat of paint, why not?
Caltrain wanted the dlcs to be taken down and dtg have to comply. Dtg are also working with caltrain to see what changes need to be made in order to sell it again. Right now, it's too early to tell
Right, but it seems to me like Caltrain isn't the only railroad to use the MP15, so it seems like repackaging it could be an option? Eh, who knows. It'd just be a shame to lose a loco.
Unfortunately, in modern times, most Class 1s moved on from dedicated switchers. Amtrak may still have some M15DCs, but the model would need some work as their carbody isn't exactly the same as the Caltrain MP15s.
This Amtrak MP15 looks a lot like SW1000R (which, along with GP40-2 and the NEC-NewYork route were the only 3 DLCs to remain in TSW2020 as they unfortunately were not ported to the latest TSW)
Only similarities are they are switchers and are were originally made by EMD. But they are not the same model.
Completely unrelated but I got the MP15 for free on PS. It just appeared as being owned one day. Nice freebie.
Licenses for digital content are a serious thing thats fact. But in my honest opinion, i have to say the best "free" advertisement is to have your name and company spreaded along the world as digital content. I can immagine a lot of tsw players might visit some of those locations too. Just a total stubborn decision to cutback licenses, which act as good advertisement.
I'm not sure I'd have heard of Caltrain without the DLC. I live halfway across the country; now I follow their news and was pumped about the electrification. New to trains, but still.
The MP15DC is one of my favourite American locos so I hope it returns in some form. I have seen some pictures of Union Pacific MP15DC's on Google so that might be one option, though I don't know whether they would be realistic on any routes we have, or whether it would be the correct time period
Run 8 issued their brilliant MP15 in numerous liveries, so guess it’s possible the TSW version could return in another guise perhaps UP.
