The northeast corridor route has been no doubt an amazing route, but i wanted to expand on how dtg could use this to implement and choose future routes, when it comes to distance and the types of services. As i have implicitly stated, mainlines are the best type of routes to implement onto train sim world because they offer a good plethora of patterns to chose from (Intercity/High Speed: which link two major stations together with minimal stoppages and higher line speeds usually exceeding 160km/h or 100mph, Regional: Services that link less major stations with more stops and local services, Commuters: Services that operate within a local metropolitan area, or a place with high worker population and link the areas around with a central city) The NYT and revised boston - providence is a great example of this and Koln - Aachen is another good example of this. These routes are the best for Train Sim World because they cater to each type of player, Intercity/High Speed for players that love fast place to place minimal stopping routes, regional for players who prefer more longer stopping routes and Commuters for usually shorter Fast/Stopper services that vary from about 15/20 mins to an hour and a half. The only constraints of Mainlines is usually route length(they can be long usually ranging from above 100 miles) , and Timetables (Loads of services and layers are only functional on gen 9+ and PC). But they can be implemented in sections that may vary. Examples of Mainlines include the ECML (UK), WCML (UK), MML (UK), GWML (UK), WAML (UK), CML(UK), GEML (UK), Northeast Corridor (US), Aachen - Frankfurt (DE). A good starting point would be the ECML (London - Peterboro) with LNER, Hull Trains, Grand Central and Lumo providing Intercity Services, Great Northern providing Regional and Thameslink providing commuter services, and the route length is around 80 miles. In conclusion the point of my post is that mainlines offer more to do with routes and make them more replayable and they cater to each niche of train sim world players. But what is everyone’s thoughts and ideas on this, you for or against the ideas, how do you believe these ideas could be implemented , are you more of a Intercity, Regional or Commuter player and give examples of mainlines i may have missed
Nope to just mainline action I want a little piece of everything route wise, so dish up some sleepy branchlines, secondary lines and frieght focused yard shunting and industrial settings work too, you don't have to have a tons of services to get lost and feel part of the living world these other settings provide, nothing but mainlines would quite frankly suck big hairy butt.......
I don’t particularly think mainlines are the best. The ai is usually unrealistic as there isn’t enough trains and the performance can take a heavy hit. I think variety is key like you say though.
Secondary lines are far more interesting, or something that offers an actual network. Really not that bothered about NYC - Trenton*, we already have plenty of high speed straight shot main lines in the game - LGV, Kent High Speed and SKW. * Having to buy the Acela on top of the already £30 route does not exactly persuade the sceptical.
Then make smaller routes sharing the same station that have those trains and then create a mainline route with those trains. But that might mean people complain cuz too many routes in one region and there are many other parts. Obviously there would be differences by operator, different interiors, etc but it gives dtg a base model to work with.
I’ve really enjoyed the network aspect of routes like SEHS and Dresden. Feels like you are part of something bigger and have so many destinations to choose from.
