Hi, just something that i find confusing: Please see the 3rd May Roadmap stream at 00:44:00: It is said that they work on a German and US route but they are very very early in development and not a priority compared to the big bug fixes and improvements for TSW2 (for example save game). By now we know that these routes are the German and US TSW3 routes. Or am i wrong? Now it was said they worked on TSW3 since one year already? I believe? So they knew last August that they will do a TSW3 and will need routes for it i guess. So how could this two routes in early May be "no priority" compared to "improvements" for TSW2? Thats just 3 months before they announced TSW3 release in early September... Also they had to do all the other stuff like the new TSW3 training center. And what kind of core improvements for TSW2 did we get since early may? Iam confused. Can someone clear up the timeline please?
They were working on something and didn't give full information. Not really confusing, more a case of giving partial information rather than full disclosure.
So they are still workin on all the fixes for TSW2 core? I mean in this stream they said it will be the main focus.
I thought it was clear, what Matt and the rest see as a priority is not always the same as what the accountants see as the priority. And as its the accountants way which ultimately allows devs to put the bread on the table via salaries I guess they take precedence.
This does feel like another "not another thread on the same subject" thread. But yeah, as above, DTG need money to pay developers so that they can continue fixing bugs. DTG have said that they will apply bug fixes to both TSW3 and TSW2 (until the point where they say "Okay, we're no longer supporting TSW2" presumably). They're still working on bug fixes, and they have been working on improvements (see the previews of TSW3). Treat it like a non-optional route bundle and it is a good thing imho but as with the TSW2 release, not everyone likes "non-optional". edit: Not only "not another thread" but it isn't even as if the OP'er hasn't seen the other threads :S
My take on it is that all of these improvements and fixes were supposed to be nothing more than a TSW2 patch. The German and the US routes were also supposed to be TSW2 routes, hence their early announcements. Then someone from the money people team said "bruh, we need more money" so they went for releasing it as a "new game" instead. I mean it doesn't make much sense, but it's either this or they just straight up lied about taking time off to fix TSW2 and such. I mean we have been waiting for the preservation crew updates for what, half a year now (if not more)? And now they say these will get released to TSW3 first. It's a goddamn joke.
"Bugs are as a result of making money, fixing them makes none" True. But bug fixes are seed corn. They make us happy and willing to open our wallets.
I doubt thats the case. Usually the first thing companies check is the financial aspect of a project. So i would believe they know TSW3 is going to release in 2022 since at least a year. No way they decided to do TSW3 in May.
i understand that on launch from tsw 3 all bugs are fixed and we will see a new level of gameplay and that tsw 3 will be updated weekly
100% false. Some people may wait for a bug fix and then buy the product and thus the developer makes money from the purchase. Happens all the time. It may not be as much as the initial profit but they would still make some cash regardless
That's already gotten an asterisk with the confirmation that fixes to the dispatcher will only be applied to TSW3... How many more promised updates and fixes will be quietly slipped into the TSW3-only bin?
I think from a business model kind of view it did not make sense to announce TSW3 a year ago or 6 months ago since they did probably fear people would wait wit their purchase of TSW2 and especially the DLC...but on the other hand sequels in a game series are usually announced well in advance, not 1 month before release. All the talk leading up to SOS and the "honest communication" offensive they started some time ago...
You have to assume it is because they know it will be unpopular in some quarters and don't want months of moaning about it. Instead they announce it at a point where they can already show gameplay and "wow" people with new features and routes/locos. That way there is more positivity to counterbalance the inevitable "not another version update" backlash. Its a pretty defensive strategy. It also makes sure they aren't announcing things before they know exactly what they will be delivering (see rush hour release).
The backlash happens anyway. Look at the TSW3 Steam forum. The top post since a month basically slams DTG. And honestly, at this point i cant blame the player base. When other sims like Xplane or Truck Simulator announce a new release the player base gety hyped up and excited. With TSW people are rather muted or critical, fearing the worst so to speak.
Hey folks, to confirm: The US and DE routes being worked on were Kassel and Cajon Pass - there will be no future Add-ons for TSW2 The teams are different - our Engineering team were focusing a lot on things like Add-ons Manager, Xbox Audio issues, etc., which is what we refer to within the 'TSW2 issues' - these are still coming to both games. Our content teams focus on Routes and improvements; and Preservation Crew focus(ed) on bringing new features to legacy routes At the time (the cited video is 3 1/2 months ago), we were still investigating the scale and diagnosis for things like Save Game and Dispatcher, which we wanted to bring to both games, but after investigation, it's something we'll be working on as a priority for TSW3 (explained within the most recent Roadmap: ). It's much more complex than working on, say, a route, as it requires diagnosis, and testing across every route. Sorry for the slightly bullet-pointy reply, I'm back after a week off and trying to catch up on everything.
So some fixes "might" come to TSW2 but certain fixes are already TSW3 only like Save game and dispatcher? Let's be honest here. It sounds like no further fix is coming for TSW2... For example Xbox Audio. I guess DTG will stop selling TSW2 on the Xbox store so I can see this as being announced as TSW3 only in the future.
The Xbox Audio issue is already fixed, so will be available for TSW2 and TSW3 players. The plan is to remove the ability to buy TSW2 from the launch of TSW3, but all current TSW2 Add-ons will be compatible for both games.
DTG JD Appreciate your answers, JD Will you still deliver a patch for that nasty derailment bug, which was introduced by a "patch" for SoS and messed up the whole simulator. Or will you just leave that in the TSW2 Nirvana?
Given the fact that playability of so many routes has been hurt by that fix for SoS, would it be possible for that patch to be reverted for at least those of us who don't own SoS anyway?
You really think that they will keep fixing both games ? When TSW 2 was released that Cement Circle fix was promised for TSW 1 and it never came and that was the easy one So im not expecting any bug fixing... maybe they will release like 1 or 2 after TSW 3 release to show you that they keep promises but then they will just leave it like it is. So is that stuff broken in TSW 3 too ? Means you are releasing already broken game ? And if not ... what is the problem to add the same fix directly to TSW 2 as core of the game is the same exept TSW 3 include some new extra classes. Or is that just ... TSW 3 got it fixed.. if you want fixed version then its better to buy TSW 3 then just wait for TSW 2 fix ?
Of course not. We all know the drill by now. I would actually be surprised if things like sound or save or stuttering would ever be fixed in TSW3
All the promised Preservation Crew routes will be released on both TSW3 and TSW2, but TSW3 first. Within the core TSW3 routes, we're not seeing these derailment issues when testing, as these routes have been built afresh. There are some small improvements to Spirit of Steam, but we're not planning a change based on the derailment issues for the route. Aware of the issue within TSW2 though - as mentioned above, I don't have a promise/timeline for you at present.
DTG JD So you are saying that TSW2 routes in TSW3 still suffer from the buffer and derailment issue and it is not planned to address this although the bug is known since many months? That's...bad. Sorry but at this point with no concrete timeline of promise I have to assume a fix will never come
