I like steam locomotives a lot more than diesels or electric trains, so when I first heard somebody that DTG had stopped development of steam related content, I was rather disappointed, since I can't seem to find any other railsims with a satisfactory assortment of steam content.

But never mind that, what I want to know is, exactly what did DTG say about why they shut it down, was there an official statement, where was it posted, how detailed of an explanation was there, when did they say this, etc?

There was no official statement per se. The EP ((Matt P) eventually chimed in on a now buried thread discussing the demise of steam to confirm it was no longer being actively worked on, but there was never any real explanation as to the whys of the situation.

They've never actually said they're not doing any more steam. They've just basically said it's not a priority.

All they need to do is fix the physics, then let 3rd parties have a go.

It is such a shame they are not making more steam locos. I feel a bit let down by DTG. If there's a will then there's a way. I've done a few runs with the Jubilee this week and absolutely love it. I'd honestly be happy for them to make more locos at the current standard just so we have more variety.

I think the whole thing is a rather terrible ordeal to be completely honest. When SoS were released we had all these promises (ha) made about how this and that would be improved, manual firing, this were an ongoing project, etc, and the only place this went to were two more steam locos, the 4f & A3 (FS), which were worse than the two which they had made before, physics wise, and with no sign of manual firing, or any other improvements at all.
This, unsurprisingly, led to few people buying PFR which then led to the ever so clever blokes within DTG Towers' marketing department to decide that we didn't want steam, when in fact the reason PFR didn't sell were that people wanted properly done steam locos, and so this lead to steam content being dropped. Of course that in itself, and the way it were handled, were bloody frustrating, but the bit I find even worse, is that they refuse to fix the mess of the existing steam locos left behind, which to this day don't have proper manual firing like 'promised' or make absolutely no sound as AI and when you drive them the sound is just a muffled mess.

I really think DTG need to do a U-turn on steam, even if it is to get the core up to scratch to fix the existing steam locos and give 3rd parties a better platform to start from, two have already said balls to it due to the state of the core for steam, which is a real shame.

Same here, my steam wishlist consists mostly of US locomotives, but the Jubilee really makes me wish there was an LMS Black Five model in the game.

I don't no ware that specific thread is. Although this stream mentions steam physics 55 minutes in.
