Just reading the FAQ, track shadow pop in won't happen on new routes and selected old routes. Finally!
It would be helpful to take screenshots of the SAME scene to show the difference, wouldn't it? Can someone enlight me whats the difference in those two screenshots regarding shadows? Popups was never a problem for me since I edited the engine.ini and can not be transported by still images anyway
I think doing the same bit of track would be difficult considering it's only coming to new routes. As for the explanation, you will notice in the first image that the track shadow has a limited range. This has been increased in the second image.
Yup this is long overdue, and for me at least a big deal! Next for me is for DTC to get rid of those immersion breaking little freezes when a route chunk is loaded
I think we will have to wait until they build a new game I guess. Still hoping they can fix that in UE4
Look at the 'Before' image. Notice that only the track you're on has the rails casting shadows, and only as far ahead as just before the next pylon on the left. Now look at the 'After' image, and notice that all tracks now have their rails casting shadows, with no abrupt change in the near distance.
Aaah thank you! I need to look at the tracks and not the scenery's shadows! That's why the pictures are different (scenery-wise) but nevertheless make the point. Now I got it, thanks! And yes, it's good to have that strange "moving shadow in front of me" gone for good
Ruhr-Sieg Nord has not enhanced track shadows. And as it is very old route, unfortunately dont ever expect any update there or to rolling stock that comes with this great route, DTG just don’t do it, they usualy don’t even fix bugs on older stuff, not even enhancing (except they going to full remaster this route someday in future, like they did on Nahverkehr Dresden). List of non-tsw5 routes that gets updated track shadows rendering :
Absolutely, my opinion is that it’s a huge pity, those older german routes are great. But obviously DTG will rather waste development resources to create useless conductor mode as a main PR for new release, than to do remaster of golden older route.
I just tried a service on Boston Sprinter and was not seeing the new track shadows. Is that route already supposed to be upgraded with this new effect or are they still in the process of applying it to the listed back catalogue routes? DW
They are releasing a remaster of GWE (free for those who own it), following those of WSR and Cathcart.. How many remasters can they do at once? Jeez. It's evidently the case that the new shadows are tied to TOD4 lighting, so that rules out all TSW2 and older routes except for remasters.
My guess is that this is a core upgrade that applies to the TOD4 lighting system (Boston got upgraded to it), so all those routes will have it automatically rather than on a route-by-route basis.
DTG Harry Why Are the New shadows Not working on the older Routes from the List? It still Looks the Same as on Bremen Oldenburg with the Bad shadow loading
Considering that LGV is on the list, it is not tied to the TOD4 lighting. And it is not automatiocall as Blackpool Branches, Bernina line, and other TOD4 routes do not have it. Keep in mind, the it is not technically a shadow, but rather something that is rendered with as part of the track. So it most likely is a change for the track material in UE and requires repacking the route. So a simple, but manual change.
