Third Party Us Route Poll

Hello everyone,

We are currently running a poll to see where the interest is for a next potential US route. Please fill out the form so we can see where the interest lies!

We’ve reviewed the responses submitted in this form, and frankly, some of them were downright disgusting. This behavior is unacceptable and violates the basic standards of decency and respect that we expect from our community.


Let this be clear: these responses will be forwarded to the forum moderation team for further review and possible action.

 

One line out of the blue on a forum doesn’t really serve to introduce yourselves. Think you need to tell us a bit more so we can see if you are a serious contender.

Starting with, payware or freeware?

If payware, then are you actually a signed up third party developer with DTG?

What’s your track record in other sims - what content have you produced and released for MSTS, TSC or even Trainz?

Do you have an effective team to tackle all aspects of route and train building, including people with the necessary skills to produce high end UE content and 3D models?

Don’t want to come across as negative but we have already seen a number of TSW developer start ups who have failed to deliver or seem to be struggling so better not to get people’s hopes up if they think you are doing a route they want, but fails to materialise.

 

Who is this 'We'??

 

The poll is really only useful for those who actually know the routes your poll is mentioning. As a foreigner, I know no particular routes (other than ones I've played in TSC), but I'm still interested in and buying USA content.

 

It would help if I actually knew these routes, I’m not American but I like us freight content like cane creek and Clinchfield railroad

 

I had a look at the form but I don't know enough to actually give a valid answer.

I like the Boston -Providence and like a good mix of passenger and freight.

 

Sorry but without knowing anything about how and by who my email addressed is being shared with I will not be completing that form.

While rude comments are totally uncalled for, this seems like illegal data harvesting or a scam and I very much doubt this has anything to do with DTG in an official capacity despite the claims by the OP.

DTG Alex does this need deleting to protect forum users from being scammed?

 

Hi, I submitted a response to the US Route Interest Poll while signed in, and I noticed email collection was enabled at the time. Could you please delete my entry or confirm that my email won’t be stored or shared, since i dont know if this was approved by DTG thanks

I have to agree with a few others who have commented. Who is this mysterious “we” that is looking for information. OldVern asked several pertinent questions concerning who or what company is asking for our opinions. Even being located in the U.S., I can not provide any adequate input on the survey since the routes themselves are not defined… what the heck is “CTA”? If this is a serious effort by a legitimate entity, then why not introduce yourself and/or team or company, past track record, if any then in the survey, actually describe the routes so those less familiar might gain some insight to what you are proposing.

Though the account The7Train has been on the board since 2018, it is a low participation account, but I do see most active have been concerning route/asset creation and you have developed a time-table model for the LIRR dlc, so this is probably a legitimate request. I would welcome a bit more of an induction of yourself and/or team and a general outline of the project you are considering.

I have to agree with everyone who has responded here The7Train tell us a bit about yourself. For example how big is your team or are you the only one. What content have you made before and for what games, and what content would you seriously consider producing for TSW.

I live in Canada but what LeadCatcher has mentioned about the survey is lacking details it makes it hard even for me to make choices.

Hoping at some point you would consider taking sometime to introduce yourself and (team) to us.

Thanks for that --- now knowing that - If I knew the color designations of the lines and where they went and how long or at least a link to a Wiki page for further information - that would be helpful... but with such a cryptic beginning, my desire to do deep research to respond to the survey is pretty low.

 

also the polls seems sus as well he even claims he's a third party dev and its for the next US route but there's no next US route planned for TSW5, unless if the OP is referring to TSW6 US core route

I would say that the poster is not an English speaker, look where the '?' is placed. Now, this does not imply that anything is wrong here.

Reporting responses to a Google form that is publicly accessible to the world on a non DTG hosted platform by "users" that aren't even likely members on this forum to DTG eh

 

I’ve seen some skepticism around the form — just to clarify, it’s solely meant to help me gauge interest and ideas for a potential project.

If you’d like to share your input, great! If not, that’s totally fine too.

Big thanks to those who’ve already responded — your suggestions have been really helpful in shaping next steps.

It's entirely possible the person accusing them mistook them for collecting emails when they didn't. If they were and it was a genuine mistake, I dont think they need crucified over it.

How about we just let them crack on and see if they come to fruition and not scare them off over what might have been a simple mistake.

 

If they arent data mining how do they know who to report to the forum moderation team then? Maybe they've changed it since then or its your own personally settings which prevent them from getting access to your emails I dont know and I dont care, they clearly stated that they were reporting people which is only possible if they have collected personal data

 

What evidence? You're showing me the defaults for a form. Is it possible they forgot to turn it off? Sure. Could be an inexperienced 3rdparty dev but again, they've fixed it (if it was on by mistake) - lets just move on.

no it manually got turned on if you don't believe then go to google forms and go to settings and you'll find evidence the default Google Form setting for collecting email addresses is ‘Do not collect email addresses.’

They were clearly collecting personal data and knew they where, without a data policy statement, without any contact details and without declaring who they are working for. All of which is illegal and if this is a genuine member of the 3rd party program DTG need to ensure that all 3rd parties they are aware of their legal obligations. If they arent and are falsely claiming they are then this thread needs taking down.

Let’s try to stay on topic. There’s absolutely no data mining involved here as I’ve stated before, collecting email addresses was never enabled by default, and frankly, it’s of no concern to us what emails you use. The only thing that matters to us is your route vote.


There’s no need to stir up unnecessary panic over something this minor. Just to reiterate, filling out the form is completely optional. But please, stop trying to stir up panic over something like this…

Ok, this is a strange thread. Let’s work this out easily. I took the poll without much thinking last night, I guess my age (43) and thoughts was it seemed legit enough.

with that said, why could this not have been done as a forum post to get everyone’s feedback. I would agree the post would be literally all over the place, but if that’s the reason for the poll you sent, maybe just explain that as it’s totally believable.

hopefully there was no bad intent here, I filled it out again to help someone with some answers. It’s fairly sad we have to worry about all this nonsense just to talk about trains in what amount to a video game. But, that’s the world we live in I guess.

maybe explain who you are and why would posted the poll. I think some simple answers from your end would solve this quickly as well. If you are a developer, great, we all want new content. If you are just a forum member who is “dreaming” up a project; that’s fine too. But explain your interest and that would solve a lot of this internet “speculation”.

 

This honestly feels like another wishlist like thread but with extra steps. But its one person putting their poll into a different location.

 

The7Train Why did you make a poll off site which forces the users to share their emails? If you’re going to start somewhere, start here, on this website. This is where you should’ve made your poll.

Again, who’s we? Who are you? What’s your company called? Do you have experience in route building?
A brief summary of what your aspirations are, goals etc would speak volumes also with people in the community.

In your 2nd post by confirming you was going to report people for comments you inadvertently admitted to holding forum members personal data, yet now claim not to be data harvesting.

To clarify once again: the poll does not and has never collected email addresses by default. No email data is visible, stored, or accessible to me in any way, and there is absolutely no data sharing or harvesting involved. The sole purpose of the form is to gather interest in potential future route projects, nothing more.

Participation is entirely optional. If you’re uncomfortable, you are under no obligation to fill it out.

That said, I will no longer be engaging with speculation, misinformation, or off-topic comments. I deeply appreciate those who provided thoughtful feedback, and I look forward to continuing a constructive dialogue with the community.
