So I haven’t touched this game in a couple months, Probably 3-4. I play on Series X by the way.
Loaded up some Long Island RailRoad because I’ve been craving a little New York and so I turned on dynamic weather, set the weather to foggy and began the run. Not even after I left the tunnel out of NY Penn, the fog was already gone. Didn’t bother me much, but then it was clear, then it starts raining about halfway through the run. Near the end of the run I about quit because the weather kept changing between foggy and clear and so my traction kept getting slippery. So I decided to look on creators club and the game crashed for no reason. Now I’m really mad.
Jumped on Boston - Worcester and the game immediately stutters like crazy. Go down the route a little and textures start to get blury, frames start dropping and I just couldn’t take it anymore. To finish it off, the game crashes for a 2nd time right at Framingham, couldn’t even finish the damn run. I see why I haven’t touched this game in so long. Without a new U.S route or just U.S content in general, this game has been shoved in a closet and ducked tape away for the foreseeable future. I have bought these DLC with my earned money and if they can’t seem to work properly, then there’s something seriously wrong. Sorry to rant a little here, just had to express myself. Do Better Dovetail.
    Have a good one everyone.

Sounds like one of two things... A Gen 8 user or a person in need of a hardware upgrade

haha, wow, that's so funny becoz today I had a really shitty experience with the bakerloo line with the 1972 stock completely bugged and I was thinking about coming to report it here on the forum
I really wanted to understand what happens with the dlcs when they are backwards compatible that they all get screwed up and honestly dtg doesn't care about fixing bugs and completely abandons the old dlcs and we who pay a lot for them get screwed...

Well there are known issues with the core, even the EP finally posted a week or so ago to acknowledge the problems and that fixes are proving challenging to track down. One of the reasons why I’m being fairly cautious with what I buy for the game at the moment. However, when TSW is running good, it takes some beating… yesterday’s chill out run on my PS5 version with NTP acquired in the sale…

Hmm, I guess it's all about levels of expectation because where I come from, "occasional stuttering" doesn't come across as something that's working "absolutely fine" ;)

TSW 5 has been the most frustrated I've ever been with the whole TSW series - I've played the game since it first came to console.

On Series X, I'm fed up of the constant blurry textures (see below) on several routes and video memory errors with Frankfurt-Fulda and Mittenwaldbahn in particular; also had video memory errors even in the main menu when trying to publish rainfan pics too - it's beyond ridiculous.

Additionally, performance varies from route to route, but can be a real annoyance when it wants to be and ruins the experience. Finally, there's so many annoying bugs which still need fixing; one major example is the white artifacts/shapes on the Eanos Wagons - other locos have had this, such as the Class 153, yet that gets fixed and the Eanos Wagons don't... Where's the consistency?

Then there's Frankfurt-Fulda. Just to play this game without potentially getting a video memory error, I have to switch from 4K to HD.

My overall enjoyment and enthusiasm for TSW is really waning - I love this game, but it can be so frustrating.

That's not really an acceptable counterargument. If the game is sold on generation 8 consoles, then it MUST run on generation 8 consoles. After all, the appeal of consoles is literally that "it just works out of the box".

Also issues like the wonky dynamic weather and the Creators Club being a complete unusable mess is not a hardware issue. It's simply the game being broken as hell.

Wow, that looks tremendously horrible. There’s a reason why I’ve been ignoring the content from foreign countries.
After it seemed U.S content has been dropped for the foreseeable future, I tried getting into other countries, but photos like this and other complaints on the forums has really derived me from them..

Unfortunately like I’ve said many times before this down to the limitations of the Series X, it’s forever plagued by Z-fighting and audio popping issues, which I highly doubt can be fixed on the current gen.

If I was seeing those blurry textures constantly it would put me off playing completely. Luckily I invested in the PS5 eco system for TSW, and I’m glad I did.
I do own some dlc on the Series X for TSW, but it’s mostly older routes. I’m guessing it’s more of an issue on newer routes (blurry textures) ?

He likes being passive aggressive, that’s his style, take no notice :)

TSW6 will be even worse, considering dtgs inability to optimise anything here on xbox FOR YEARS.

Apparently the fixes are coming. Matt said so in a stream roughly one year ago. You can expect the same excuses going forward for TSW6.

Yeah, I'm finding it crashes more often that it doesn't. They need to slow down on new routes and features and work on what we have - optimising and improving it.

Can’t do that because then they’d lose there source of income and Dovetail needs that moolah. Why stop making stuff when they can pump out half churned routes and hope people forget the older stuff?

I don’t know whether there have been any silent updates but when I fired up the Dutch route a couple of days ago, it seemed to be stuttering and sound squelching more than previously. Actually quite disheartening really.

I feel like I've been screaming this into an echo chamber for the past two main releases, TSW5 more so than anything. Even worse is that it's become painfully obvious that resources have been shifted from proper testing to just brute forcing content out, especially for us users on Series X.

Obviously, players' mileage varies, but it's equally obvious that a lot of people are having a lot of problems playing this game and not just on consoles or older PCs.

I have a pretty good setup but I'm having problems, most recently on WCMLS with signalling issues, usually red lights I cannot move past and errant AWS alerts that don't relate to anything.

And I'd hate to have to get home from work using the subway line that runs on this route. There's barely a train an hour as far as I can see.

Goodness knows why I insist on even starting this route.

We are 8 months into the games lifespan, and compared to other previous TSW titles we barely have any thorough or comprehensive updates. We've been told a few of the reasons, but quite honestly it feels like the major issues keep overlapping into every new TSW title, and making the existing issues more complex and adding new issues... A snow ball effect.

I often wonder if outsourcing the UK content has added to the games core issues, and made the problem solving even more complex because the outsourced company (not mentioning any names but most players probably know exactly who I am talking about) is left to iron out any issues externally, and we all know the said company I'm referring to couldn't organise a pxxx up in a brewery in terms ironing out issues with their own branded content...

If DTG has any sense, before introducing new features or bringing out the next TSW title, they'd scrap the idea of a new game completely and concentrate hard on resolving and getting ontop of the current plague of issues, which would potentially overlap into any new TSW title, and just add more issues.

I've said it a few times already but I won't be investing in any new TSW title unless major improvements are made to the current edition of the game, and if people want resolutions to the games core issues I'd advise them to do the same thing... What's the point in paying out for a new TSW title, which you could hardly play, and if the commitments and promises to get on top of the core issues in the current edition of game haven't been kept, is anything to go by? It's a recurring phrase, but vote with your wallet.

    This won't change anything.

They've already said they've modified UE4 to their needs. Now, just imagine them having to spend time doing the same thing to UE5.

It'll cause more problems than it's worth.

That’s the truly bad bit, I’m afraid. Blurry textures et al. - as game-breaking as I’d classify them - still let you play. Crashes don’t. And TSW 5 is far less stable than any previous iteration. I’ve had crashes on various routes by now that have not once crashed before in years of playing before TSW 5. Whether it’s various core changes, the new map, etc. … It needs sorting out.

I hear you and generally agree, but... The problem becomes - especially if they repeat the free offer for TSW6 - TSW5 will be dropped quicker than EA ditching last year's Football Manager title and become unsupported so far as any updates are concerned. So the only way to get to whatever fixes emerge from the bottom of the programming composter, will be to move forward as, let's be honest, with only 4 or 5 months left to whatever happens in September and unless the programmers pull a rabbit out of the spaghetti code, TSW5 is pretty much going to be as it is now for the rest of time.

That's a fair point actually, if the 'upgrade' (if we can call it that in its current state), is free then I'm happy to go along with it.

I get the feeling though these updates are going to stay few and far between for the near future, and unless they are tackled head on and with some passion the deterioration will continue over several titles.

Not played in 3 months due to issues on X Box, mainly crashing and blurry textures. Keep coming on and watching the new release feedback but as has been mentioned, the core has game breaking problems that need to be sorted.
I'm still convinced that Map 2.0 is a major contributing factor to the performance issues. Shame as it's the only TSW5 feature I think is worth it.
As it is today, I would love to go back to TSW4 as a core game, I don't recall half the issues we have now. I could just jump on, run a timetable service and escape for an hour or so.

In general yes, more of an issue with newer routes. But, there are some exceptions, however. For me, the new Dutch route has never had any blurry textures and overall performance is superb - let's hope this trend continues. Meanwhile, there's been a couple issues with blurry textures for some older routes, with Hamburg-Lubeck specifically, but only sometimes and not as frequent.

Have to agree, that's why I always make sure the map is zoomed out as far as possible. Maybe related, but on Series X just by viewing and trying to publish my railfan pics, I get quite frequent video memory errors too - how's that even possible while in a main menu?

One other thing. Here are those annoying white artifacts/shapes which appear with the Eanos Wagons which are in need of serious fixing because it totally ruins the immersion and they're just so ugly to look at:

But even smaller routes are having blurry texture issues though, see here with Maintalbahn:

ive noticed that these blurry textures always happen in every tsw5 route, so there is definitely an error with the routes that DTG needs to fix.

Although the OP started off about the XBox I fired up my newly acquired Frankfurt to Fulda for PS5 this morning. Not just Frankfurt, but constantly while driving micro stutters and pauses. Not saying it makes things unplayable but it certainly takes the edge off what should be experiencing the route on the big screen. Well guess I should be grateful it didn’t crash, but come on DTG and their defenders… This is standard hardware, the best console you can buy so no blaming potato PC’s with older video cards, insufficient RAM or mods slowing things down. If you are going to persist with UE for TSW then the game engine desperately needs a serious rebuild and optimisation as indeed do the routes as I suspect the builders are pushing too far beyond what the game is capable of delivering, in terms of length and detail.

These artifacts have existed since day one. One of the weirdest issues I have seen and I have slight suspicion that it's akinned to leaving the XYZ arrows visible in the game.
