Thomas is coming on the 20th of March. We even get the Fat Controller, who seems to have changed his name? WSR have given Thomas permission to break the speed limits. $/€ 24.99 or £19.99 uk pounds Can even use Thomas in free roam... Who's up for a bit of Thomas?
Honesty Thomas is a complete and utter waste of resources that could've been put towards bug fixes and core updates that are desperately needed in this game.
I hope Thomas can be converted into a real tank engine as a loco DLC for other routes, or even better, continual Steam content, it would be a shame to leave an asset used like this and not be developed further.
I'm finally able to do what I've been wanting to do. Finally, I can control Thomas. Hopefully not so far away I can control the others as well.
I disagree. I think this is going to make DTG a small fortune. Outside of this forum I’ve seen a lot of excitement for it. While I have no interest in purchasing the Thomas add on there are a lot who will.
Honestly. I hope this bombs…a complete waste of resources. If they want to make a children's train sim by all means do but make it a separate stand alone affair just like they have done with TSW VR which in all honestly should have been put into the core game instead of TTTE.
I like the addon but I do think it would of been better if we got a real tank engine and also if we got a A1, A2 or A4 steam locomotives
If DTG had to make a stand alone Thomas that would have probably taken up even more resources than to just bolt it on to TSW, plus you are introducing kids to TSW, if it was stand alone they might go somewhere else for their train sim needs, this way you keep them in house.
It seems like a lot of effort has gone into this, probably more than I was expecting. As someone has already mentioned “Thomas will be narrated by Mark Moraghan”. This is no small time add on here, people need to take into account all the factors gone into making this content, it costly, people don’t work for free. I think the price point is fair. Since there’s nothing I don’t own on sale, it looks certain I’ll be picking this up on Thursday The direction DTG are going now they want their game to be accessible for all ages now, this is no longer a game for grown ups. Respectfully it can still be for many, you just don’t buy TTTE or acknowledge it’s existence. I personally don’t see a problem introducing younger train fans, it’s better to keep all content under one roof. You could name your favourite loco and the demand for TTTE would be as equal. TTTE has a cult following, more than I was aware of after doing some research on it. I think it’s unfair to say it’s a waste of resources as than you might as well say DTG should halt all further planned dlc and focus on bug fixing. I mean they could, but than they’d be some other dissatisfied customer complaining about the lack of released content.
You know, there comes a point where saying such a thing for the sake of it becomes nothing more than spam.
Not my intention, but I do get that! Just trying to make light of that other inflated 'issue'. On topic then: I think Thomas looks great and if my kids were still a bit younger, I would've definitely bought this DLC.
Agree. Waste of dev time that could have gone into bringing us a Class 56, 60 or 70. Or maybe a proper LMS or BR Standard 2-6-4T to go on SoS and PFR along with an improved steam experience. Or (again!), specifically for WSR a GWR kettle maybe a Hall or Manor along with some Collett or Hawksworth coaches. Plus having decided to embark on this folly, should at least have been with its own fantasy route based on the Isle Of Sodor, not grafted on to the realistic looking WSR.
Look at it this way: it's very likely that this DLC will be so successful that it will provide DTG the resources to create the trains and routes that most of us actually want.
Just don't buy it then? Absolutely nothing is going to change for your game. It's not really my type of DLC, but if there is anyone liking it, why not? Nobody is forced to buy and play thomas
There is one possible irony, imagine if Thomas actually has better steam effect sounds than the existing “real” steam traction in the game! And given the thing will have very simplified physics, actually highly likely.
Do I have to explain to you how kids finances work? And unlike an adult, a kid will decide they want something, get it, enjoy it and won't give a seconds thought to the money spent because it is fun while an adult has bills to pay, car loans, mortgage, utilities, family to raise etc. TSW and all its add ons fall into when there is spare cash available maybe or get something in the sales category. Adults tend to lose their sense of fun, probably because of all what life throws at them, but with kids it is all about fun, fun makes their world go round and that is probably why adults are here trying to recapture some fun they had as a kid seeing a train for the first time, take trip on that train and all the fond memories that go with it.
Yeh, that really helps with revenue for DTG in the short-term…this isn't the silver bullet that everybody thinks it is!
Judging by the maturity of this thread of tantrums for not getting what you want, Thomas & Friends is perfectly suitable for the TSW community . I do hope they will add more like Percy, Edward, Gordon, James and Toby in time and an Isle of Sodor would be awesome.
I think its deliberate sometimes. Especially on other threads where there is boasting of how long it has become, then I know its just spamming for the sake of it and the original point is lost.
This isn't something i would buy or drive myself but I'm currently dating a lass and her son is obsessed with Thomas, to see the look on his face when gets to drive his favourite train will be priceless
I won't be buying it myself, but I don't think it's a complete waste of time or resources,it's never a bad idea to bring something new or in this case a little bit different but still railway related ,In my opinion should have been a separate realease made around the island sodor ,not on WSR, a bit odd ball I think.
Now if it had been Ivor The Engine on the Maerdy Coal branch. Or Hogwarts… I mean, despite being a grizzled old bar steward, my missus encouraged me to read the books a few years back and I quite enjoyed them. Though of course the train and railway a relatively minor part of the story. Still it would be interesting to see DTG’s take on a GWR Hall loco in Hogwarts livery and how they would condense the journey from Kings Cross to Lochailort into a 45 minute route!
It's supposed to be a true to life (or as near as dammit) simulation for adult-minded gamers and not some ultra-accessible arcade game that suits the needs & tastes of everyone with a controller or mouse....and at the end of the day, if Dovetail Games would have done a better job of appeasing it's target audience then they wouldn't have needed to go down this path in the first place. Look, there's a reason why iRacing doesn't include Mario Kart or ATS/ETS doesn't fit out your truck with a machine gun & rocket launchers for those who may fancy a bit of Chase HQ action - and regardless of what you may think or feel, that reason should also apply to Train "Sim" World. What you also need to be reminded of is that It wasn't long ago a certain person was spouting on about a key feature on route being excluded because too much work would be involved in putting it there. Yet here we are........Food for thought.
I love trains but I've always found these Thomas ones creepy since I was a kid. They seem to have a connection with Pennywise...
Huh? You just said you agreed with it being a waste of resources and dev time, so as long as it’s not TTTE than it’s fine. Double standard.
That could be fun for a few hours. Looks neat. Some new rolling stock too that could make for some crazy combinations. Curious what is next to Thomas in the 4th picture? Is that meant to be there? Seems very "modern" for the WSR.....
This Thomas DLC isn't my cup of tea personally, but I sincerely hope the Thomas fans out there have a blast when this releases. The only thing that bugs me is the lack of a proper Sodor Island map to go with it. At the end of the day, I'm just thankful that DTG didn't take inspiration from the All Engine Go version of Thomas.
It’s one of the main reasons I don’t come on the forums much, just the same people day in day out with their negativity. I hate this, I don’t want this, what’s this doing in my real life game for grown adults. As you say “you don’t have to buy it” just like how I won’t be picking up Cardiff today, yet I’m not on that page hating on a piece of content I don’t like. I mean I could, but what’s the point. Are DTG going to read my comment and remove it from the store, of course not. If I don’t like something or have no interest in something I don’t give my ten cents. If I did, it would be once only, I wouldn’t keep banging on about it or repeating myself. Anyways rant over. On a more positive note I will picking up TTTE tomorrow as I plan to sit down with my son after work. He’ll be holding the controller for the majority of the playthrough though. Train them young
