As I have played TSW for some time after the layer selector, free roam and formation designer was added, I have some suggestions which I think would make timetable mode better: 1. Substitution selector First off I think an expanded layer selector could be a large improvement on being able to fine tune the player's experience. It would also allow for more potential substitutions where some players find them unrealistic, since the player has the option to disable it. Similar to the layers being able to be toggled on or off, I think trains and liveries should also be able to be turned on or off in a timetable. An option to save the changes done would also be appreciated. 2. Edit existing train feature A feature I have seen multiple people request, and one I would like to see myself, is the ability to take a service and change the consist while being in the timetable. This could be done in a similar way to free roam and make it so that custom formations could run an existing service. Being able to do this and spawning trains, via the map or a free camera instead of on foot, would also be a nice improvement. 3. Fix save game on successive services This is an annoying bug that happens if you save the game when doing two or more services in one session, which makes the objective stop working. This of course means that the run is dead. Fixing this would not only lead to lots of gameplay opportunities with doing multiple services after each other, but it would also help for services that are broken up into multiple parts like reverse maneuvers or services on long routes. 4. Fix timetable info screen saying "on foot" A relatively small one, but it would definitely be nice to see the correct service name at a glance without having to pause the game. 5. Change the loco selection screen This is the one I'm most unsure of how to do, but I don't like the current loco selection screen in the menu as there are too many variants of the same train, for example the infamous class 66. A way to group the variants together might be an improvement, but then there is another problem highlighted by the upcoming class 86 pack. While I don't know how it will work in the menu, the loco seemingly has many variations covered in the pack. Maybe setting up the menu similar to how you can customize a train in the TSC scenario editor would be a good idea. This would mean having the player be able to write a locomotive number before starting the service. I don't think this would be very intuitive for a new player though, so maybe having a sub menu for customizing the loco would be a better option. In this customization menu there could be a visual representation of the different models or there could be some drop down menus for the different variations. It's probably too late to implement this into the next big update , but I hope some of these improvements come to fruition in the future.
100% agree on these suggestions, being able to swap loco's out like using the Cardiff 150 on the WCL 150 is a great idea personally, and the save game feature needs an improvement, like we can't even save more saves without overwriting previous saves, and like you said it would improve gameplay as it would allow to do longs in intervals and would provide more enjoyable experiences, and again I agree with you on the loco selection, it is quite annoying seeing alot of the same train, and the same thing when spawning stuff in, like with JT's Mk3a, there is lots to choose when I want to spawn one that it takes time. Very good suggestions though!
Before I (semi) fixed the sound squelching on the Class 87 by turning my graphics settings down, I did ponder that a system such as this would be useful. Doesn’t even need to be the whole consist, just let me swap out the Class 87 on my train for a Class 47/4. I’ll take the hit on timekeeping to enjoy the Sulzer thrash!
I want DTG would move HUD Type in the settings menu and put in in HUD and Game Play, it is out of place in the Accessibilaty tab
for me it would be a big improvement if besides selecting a loco with certain livery, we could also select liveries for coaches and/or cab car... so we could actually achieve a unified consist... like I had made a "Mirijet" livery, an Austrian CityShuttle look-alike livery, and while I can select the loco or cab car with coaches, I cant select both... same for EMU/DMUs, if you have double traction, sometimes you get one half in your livery, other in classic/other one, which happens also IRL, but I would love it if I had the whole 2x unit in my matching livery
