I would love to see a TOD4 upgrade to West Cornwall Local because it looks like a route with potential. I think that the route needs a massive upgrade because I feel that the Route has potential in the future, if there ever is a BR blue hst dlc in the future for the route, it has to meet those expectations, plus the clouds in the sky look like skies you would find on either google earth or google maps.
Only TOD4? It needs a complete remake of the entire route. You’ve only got to do side by side comparisons of real shots and gameplay shots, to see how much of a disgrace this route truly is.
WCL would be one of the routes I rather see extended than just remastered. Include the Falmouth branch and throw in an Intercity HST with improvements to the Class 150 and existing route scenery, then I might just be tempted to purchase the route again if it were perfected.
I'd agree, the WCL needs at least a new timetable, sorting out it's era once and for all. An IC HST would make a lovely addition, alongside a new timetable and an extention to Falmouth. Fingers crossed one day it's picked up as a passion project.
I think this route got done dirty by the loss of the GWR licence. Because every hint in game seems to think it was supposed to be a modern route, that was quickly backdated. (Cornwall with green 150 poster e.t.c.)
Whilst I don't disagree that this route needs a complete overhaul, and probably an extension, it would be done by Rivet so what's the point? It would end up no better than it is now.
i remember just before release of this route, Rivet said they made time to add an extension to what was originally announced (this dlc was originally due to be Penzance to St Ives and Truro only) i was convinced it was going to be the Falmouth branch coming, after all the route was called 'West Cornwall Local'.. adding the Falmouth branch would have created an actual West Cornwall network. instead they chose to add St Austell instead of Falmouth, which frankly adds absolutely no additional value at all compared to what Falmouth would have added. so i would definitely love Falmouth branch to be added.. however the sad reality for me is i haven't touched this route in well over a year (when i moved over to TSW4 i didn't even bother to redownload it), because the route itself is one of the poorest quality offerings, especially the scenery.. and the timetable is frankly an insult (something Rivet carried over to Fife Circle unfortunately) i remember Rivet defending the timetable by saying back then the route was quiet.. however just off the top of my head there were absolutely zero Penzance-St Ives services (only St Erth-St Ives).. in reality these trains are stabled at night at Penzance not St Erth, so they have to run at least some starting/ending at Penzance for crew changes, refuelling, cleaning etc. so i echo the previous comments, i'd love to see WCL updated, and if the Falmouth branch was added i would redownload the route again.. but i feel that won't happen based on Rivet's previous history. I'm not trying to be negative towards Rivet here, i'm just purely speaking on my experience of them so far, which has been the creation of routes i love in real life (West Cornwall & Fife Circle), but with massive massive flaws, the timetable alone on both these routes are just not acceptable, especially now we've seen lately the kind of timetables DTG and JT (and to be fair Skyhook now too after they completely renovated MML). you could point to rivet adding '33 new Cowdenbeath services' to Fife Circle, however 11 of those are shunting moves, so only 22 new in-service trips.. and that has zero effect on the coast side of the route which is missing Aberdeen and Inverness services too. That route, just like WCL, is just way too quiet. DTG have shown with ECML, London Overground, London Commuter.. JT have shown with Blackpool Branches.. and Skyhook have now shown with MML what a timetable in the game SHOULD look like, you simply cannot say that about Rivet so far. but anyway, to get back to the point, yes to WCL improvements and an extension to Falmouth.. but based on past experience i just cannot see this even remotely happening
Peninsula Corridor deserves some love and attention. A TOD4 enhancement along with a fresh look at the route detail would be welcome. A lot of services on Baby Bullet are crashing too on PS5 at least, so these need fixing.
If Rivet can not be bothered revisiting Edinburgh to Glasgow to update it, don't hold out hope of them updating WCL...
Jay1986. I was banned from the Rivet forum for a while for showing comparisons of how wrong the route looked to real life. I know the route well having lived on the line and it’s the worst route in the game for accurate scenery representation as well as the 150 and Rivet can’t even be bothered to comment, so there is no chance of it ever being improved. Anyway from other Rivet routes, that they have produced since their work is pretty poor. This route is so way off the reality of the real route that l call it West Country Local and only play it in fog or night mode. WCL really lets TSW down and if it were to be remastered, then l would want Just Trains to do it.
Rebuild starting from scratch including the 150, also include the intercity swallow hst. But extend to plymouth and then we get the iconic tamar bridge and brunels bridge. Gunnislake branch joins at Near St Budeaux, Victoria Road station.
Maybe in the future a release just like the New LIRR route, in the same era but maybe the inclusion of the BR Blue hst as well as more class 37 services, 47 services, 40 services and an a new class 37 in BR blue. With a TOD4 upgrade as well as a huge scenary upgrade in particular St Ives, and maybe the Truro Branch might also be a good addition
But why pay again for something that was never accurate or up to standard in the first place? It's a good move for their pockets, but a bad business practice when your customers have constantly complained, yet nothing actually gets done..
It's Rivet's route, so I can't see any prospect of anything being done by anyone other than Rivet. We may wish a lot of love and tlc could be put in to this route, but as they have demonstrated numerous times now, Rivet don't appear to have it in them. I've bought two Rivet DLCs in the past, and regretted both purchases, and from what people are saying about Fife Circle, I'm glad I gave up on them. I can't imagine DTG publishing the same route multiple times by different third parties, so I just think we need to accept that once Rivet make a route, there is no prospect of a good version of that route coming to TSW.
To be perfectly honest, I think that the route was suppose to be a modern route because I can clearly notice the modern aspects of it. I have been on the whole route before, and the only station that looks old is Penzance, everything else looks so familiar, and funny enough they created the route after I came back from Cornwall.
What l cannot understand is, that there are so many scenery flaws in every Rivet TSW route, yet they produce such an excellent effort in replicating the Forth Bridge structure, but cannot replicate a building on a Station platform and a similar building to the real one is included elsewhere in the route. There is no thought given to replicating the scenery. Their locomotive designs are not too bad but their routes are pathetic and amateurish. I will never buy another Rivet route. I only got Fife Circle because l had an Xbox game card given to me, so didn’t pay for it.
This suggests that the Forth bridge was given a far larger research and development budget than the scenery and stations themselves.
I'd sooner see it given a full remake, add in the Falmouth line, possibly extend it to Par. Same era but have an equal chance of 101s or 150/2s spawning. No 45s or 40s on passenger trains. Different liveries, back then Intercity and NSE liveries were common in Cornwall.
Agree about the 40's, but I would take a 45 with a bit of period licence! Also another route which would benefit from some official Mark One reskins for SW/North services as by no means all loco hauled trains were early Mark 2's. In fact the daytime Paddington loco hauled services went over to Mk2 aircons too at a fairly early stage.
it's not so hard... they have very good designers everything else is lacking. try going over the bridge at night in fog btw, its like playing pacman capturing light orbs
Well, WCL and Class 150 should receive a big remake to improve its scenery, fix its bugs, add HST as layers and the most important, upgrade the Class 150's physics and sound, rather than just a TOD4 upgrade. Unfortunately, Rivet always focusing on new content and maybe we can get only some small fix, or maybe we can wait they make a modern version of WCL (WCL 202X), with a higher quality, just like IOW ( the original IOW is far from good, but IOW 2022 is better, but still has some problems like the odd sound of 484 and broken mastery). In all, don't expect too much from Rivet.
I agree Island Line is better than IOW but still not right and if you bought both it cost £34.98 Thats robbing the community for their inefficiency.
Yep. Never really understood the love for the revised IOW. Some of the signalling isn’t set up properly and the 484 accelerates like a pocket rocket and makes a rather odd sound.
That could be a good update if Rivet Did, just updating scenery on that route with TOD4 lighting would make that revisited route more attractive.
Rivet I think just need to do a bit of tweaks to the Sound on the 484, as well as fixing the signalling as well as introducing TOD4 for the Island line 2022
I think the problem is, there isn't necessarily the money is TSW DLC to fund redemption projects. You mostly have to get it right first time. That's why I love what Skyhook have done with MML. They stuck in there when it wasn't perfect, made it better, and then released more content for the route. I bought MML, and both of the Cargo Line Packs at full price. It is the route I've spent the most money on, and I feel like it was totally worth it. I own WCL and ScotRail Express. I think I bought both at a discount (I know WCL was a discount, and I think ScotRail was), and I feel like I just wasted my money. Skyhook have shown what can be achieved by listening to the community, and they have generated a lot of good will which will help their future projects sell at full price on day one. Most of my frustration comes from the fact that I can't see Rivet repeating that success, and the great routes that then get ruined as a result. Fife Circle, ScotRail Express, and WCL are great routes, and should be a given the respect they deserve, but the current Rivet representations of them are too poor.
l too paid full price for MML and the two Cargo Line packs, because Skyhook admitted their errors and kept in touch with the community and put their errors right to make it a worthwhile purchase. Can you ever see Rivet doing that?
The only decent route Rivet seemed to have made is Berninalinie and I bought that for the mountains. I didn’t buy Fife because I don’t trust Rivet any more, the trains are good but the scenery usually lets us down. I will file it under “wait for sales”. WCL could have been so good if done well. DTG need to arrange a meeting with Rivet, subject “quality control”, because ultimately they are letting down the TSW brand.
I think Rivet are better at doing european route like you pointed out Berninalinie. So I think if they create more routes, I think Central Europe like Germany would boost there reputation. I think Rivet should leave Dovetail, skyhook, simtrack and Just trains to do the UK content
Even if they are doing better now, not having Bernina line owing to it only being 2/3 of the route, doesn’t change the fact they still have a trail of incompetence and poor quality in their wake with no intention of going back and fixing past errors.
Possibly, yes Arosa was quite fun. I think Rivet should begin their fight back by taking on a new country in Europe, France maybe, seems odd that our closest neighbour is so poorly represented in this game, or maybe Italy, Spain or Eastern Europe. I’ve got enough German stuff in my collection tbh.
