So a 180.6mb patch has downloaded and Steam is telling me that patching will take > 1 day and 2 hours?? admittedly initially it said > 1 year, so it's sped up a bit.. Currently at 3% 897mb/ 27.1 Gb...

Steam has the ability to only change the stuff that actually changed in UE .pak files (because .pak file is just an archive). This has the benefit of lowering the size of the download, as only that stuff that has changed has to be downloaded, and not the whole .pak file. The downside is that for those with slower disks this might increase patch time, because the whole file needs to be unpacked first, then new files copied, and then packed back to .pak files, and verified
Almost 27GB of "patch?" I'd say that's a near wholesale replacement because a fresh install is only about 35GB. All that to "tweak" 3 new routes? Okay...
No, if you read the OP they said 180MB downloaded. Total size of the files being patched is going to be 27GB, but this is all happening locally on PC.
Yes, because there is no other way, and this isn't on DTG. You either download the whole .pak file again, or you download the files that changed inside the .pak file (once again, it is just an archive of files), unpack the file, replace the update files, and pack in again... If you do any change to i.e the Frankfurt - Fulda route, which is a 10GB file, you need to unpack that 10GB file, and that's where the big numbers come from, as Steam will report it as "Patching 10GB" as it has to unpack the 10GB file, no matter how small the actuall update size is. Do a tweak to all 3 routes and you have "Patching" for most of the TSW install. For most users, this will be faster than downloading the 27GB again.
The forest continues to float in the sky. Two locations have been marked - one of them is in the Tring station area. When will the 350 get suspension?
It started at saying 27 hours to install, and quickly dropped to around 5 mins for me. I was trying to figure out how 180mb = 27gb. I guess it copies the files it downloads across more than 1 dlc or something like that.
You will find that with Steam, the Download times will jump around royally. Best way is to ensure you’re not downloading or streaming anything else and just let it get to work, then bear in mind it needs to install/patch what it just grabbed.
Steam downloads the new data (180 MB), but on the disk, it needs to change the whole .pak file. This is why Unreal Engine games have "Fixed a typo." patches with 100 kB download size and end up changing 70 GB on the disk. The time remaining is an anomaly of Steam. I've noticed when updating large files on the disk, the time remaining increments by ~40% every second until the file is patched. I've seen 27 years remaining on some game, only for it to drop down to a few minutes as it started patching the next file, increasing again each second.
Mine does this and then say missing file and couldn't download so have to uninstall then install the whole game again
Reminds me of the scene in the South Park movie where the military were using a Windows app at a briefing and the progress bar stuck. “Get me Gates.” Who was then summarily executed on stage!
Reading though these patch notes.... Absolutely nothing substantial was fixed, but the correct prices at the Store are no correct. Wow
I let it run and went and watched some stuff on YT. Going back to the PC after 3 hours it had completed..
The patch also halved my performance on PC, I used to get around 40 fps in Frankfurt HBF, now it is like 20. No Idea whether is is an incombatibility with the jetwash .ini, since I use that mod.
