    Hello, it's me again.

    This thread is dedicated to some of the biggest flops TSW has seen. These are DLCs that were either really low quality, or just, in general didn't sell well these are going in order from somewhat failures, to catastrophic failures, so let's start off with number 5;

I'm probably going to get absolutely torn to pieces during this thread ;) Just Keep In Mind this is only my Opinion, and if you think otherwise that's absolutely fine.

    5. Glasgow Engineering Express Pack -

This Pack just had an incredibly weird concept, and I have no idea what this was supposed to be.

You had the DRS 66 with the ONE 66 as well. Both had the RHTT Control Panel thingy inside.
For some reason, they just stuck a fictional coupler in this pack to couple to 385s, which..what's the point really..?
And for the cherry on top, they added seacow wagons from WCL onto it, the entire pack just screamed, "reused" and, it's just an odd choice of DLC to buy

    3/10 Flop

    4. The State Of New York - Trenton

NY To Trenton was one of the routes announced in the spring summit of 2023, alongside Linke Rheinestreke, MML and Niddertalbahn (iirc)

The Route, from screenshots looked quite promising, and it was just looking to be a standard, ok American route...or was it?

When the route released, it was an incredibly rushed product, scenery was bland, and you had some off-putting things within it, oh...with the addition, of a timetable, that was just shocking. It had an incomplete timetable, similar to LIRR

Some time later, DTG issued a patch, and a new timetable for NY To Trenton, and yes, while it did have its new timetable. The amount of layers and services, caused so much memory to be filled up, that it made the route almost unplayable, with most devices being barely able to hit 30 in areas

    It was an American Disaster.

    4/10 Flop

    3. The Arosa Aggregates Pack

Oh Lord, I hate this pack. Rivet had basically released the most Pointless and most unbelievable Aggregates pack.

The pack included some 4/4ii liveries, and a new aggregate wagon. With some scenarios, and that was it.
Freight should have been in the timetable in the first place, there was no need to squeeze 9.99 out of it.

    Enough Said.
    5/10 Flop

    2. The DB BR 187

I hate to be putting this at number 2, because the 187 could have genuinely been a decent loco if done right, the loco was on the roadmap for a long long time, it was just sitting there, not doing anything.

I remember being so hyped for the 187, a new modern German loco to play around with, but when it was released, There was one Major major thing that was scuffed, and that was the sounds, the sounds of the 187, were literally copied, exactly from the 185.2, now, I understand, Skyhook had issues getting the sounds, ok, fair enough. But still, I don't understand why they couldn't tell us about it prior to release.

Skyhook, some months later, put new sounds on It, only for those sounds to sound even worse than before.

    It was an absolute disaster.

    8/10 Flop

    1. The West Cornwall Local Steam Railtour

Honestly, what on earth was rivet thinking here. This had to be the most strange DLC releases, I've ever seen in this game.

Firstly, Cornwall during the 90s, had never seen a jubilee run down there (afaik), so that was just an incredibly unrealistic thing.

Secondly, when this DLC released, rivet had somehow broken the reverser gear, and it was sticking out of the flipping engine, yep, you saw this right.

And thirdly, the RGB lights on the jubilee, just made the DLC look more like a toy. Than a genuine steam train.

I just don't see the point in it.

    9/10 Flop

Anyways, Enough Rambling for Today. It's currently 1am as I'm typing this. Thank you all for reading this. ;)

And I must emphasize, before you go typing, this is only my opinion, if you think otherwise, or disagree with this, I honestly wont mind.

A flop list, and no mention of DTG's "attempt" of the Union Pacific Heritage Unit pack?
    header.jpg
It was one of 3 US DLC's released around the same time (The Acela and New York Trenton).

And my god did DTG screw up on them. The numerous amount of paint issues they had were inexcusable, and the embarrassment this pack became more apparent when SHG released their Norfolk Southern ES44 Heritage Unit Pack, which at least was decent with correct paint jobs all around. (Including adjusting one model for the correct nose door!)

I actually wonder if people even remember this DLC exists.

I'll agree on all other than NYT. It's a really solid route now, quite a bit of fun and runs well for me on PC at least.

It gets quite a bit of crashing for certain services on series x (new timetable) to the point I think they are not able to be done at all due to the consistency of the crash.

I completely disagree with NYT. It's now an Underrated and unnecessarily overhated route. I also realized a gigantic double standard, people are quick to call out NYT for it's issues, but the same people don't like it when BML OR HMA (which both ALSO has the same issues as NYT) to be called out. Why..? Cause BML also suffers from performance issues. NYT imo is one of the better routes in TSW... Newark to Trenton was extremely well done imo. But NYT is ABSOLUTELY NOT a flop

It really doesn't. It's still one of the most overhated and extensive underrated routes I've ever played. It didn't deserve all the hate it got tbh

At least for the PC third of the community, there's nothing wrong with the 187. In fact, it's a pretty good loco. Swap out the sounds with good ones, and it's a nice engine to have. It isn't a complete functional disater like the WCL 150 or the BR 204. And, no, I don't think adding freight to Edinburgh is a bad idea at all; even just as AI traffic it helps the route. The ancient 2-axle wagons, admittedly, are a little weird though.

  13. Spikee1975

    Spikee1975 Guest

I respectfully disagree. The 187 is what I'd call a functional disaster. While there's a sound mod, it cannot add sounds that are obviously missing (doors, controls). PZB mode suddenly changes when exiting LZB. Sometimes you end up with infinite restrictive mode. AFB engaging/disabling is not prototypical and can result in a lock up. The headlight setup is completely wrong, also you can't turn them off once enabled in the display - after running light engine and coupling to a consist, you're stuck with taillights on. So it is the worst loco in the game, as the script is completely messed up. And parts of the cab are taken from the 185, you can even see two different interior colours. The windows have an unrealistic dark tint and are so dirty you can almost see nothing. This is a product that was cleary released in an utterly unfinished state. And on top of that presenting you with a driver's cam that has you standing not sitting at the desk.

How you can say there would be nothing wrong or it would be a pretty good loco is completely beyond my understanding. There is nothing good about it, just nothing, except that it moves. FUBAR.

I've not experienced any functional errors using the 150 or 204. While sounds may not be realistic, that's secondary to me - still they are better than the 187's. Each switch and control does what it's supposed to do, and modelling and texturing are well done.

    So in my humble opinion:

    TOP FLOP: DB BR 187

I gave the BR187 a run in Hamburg-Lubeck last night... sounded really good when it was coasting. It's only under power when that scream destroys your ears. :D

But yeah, I would love it if Skyhook revisited this loco in the future.

Skyhook are currently updating the BR Class 158 from MML for a return on Fife Circle, so that is a good sign that the BR187 may get an update pass in the future..... More chance of Skyhook updating things than Rivet Games at least.

Don't think so. Cane Creek bogies still 180° turned. HSC Banking Comm not working (you have to manually put the DPU's autobrake to HandleOff or the rear will be stuck with brakes on, MU2A valve needs to be manually turned back and forth in each trailing loco). Dynamic brakes completely off and overpowered. Cablights and headlights too strong, headlights illuminating the cab nose inside, cab nose light can't be turned off once switched on in the HSC ES44, Numberlights not working...

HST and 158 instrument dials still broken.... marker lights display in the 158 flaky (switching from white to red randomly), window doesn't fully slide open in the 158, low res cab textures and so on.

You know, I've seen this noble request from many members since Eo2021. And yet, here we are.

No responsible will officially acknowledge what becomes pretty evident when you go through Spikee1975 's list above. The loco is f...[beep].... up beyond repair and has become what I call the "most expensive AI loco in the sim". IIRC there was a LOD issue as well with the cabin doors that didn't make the list (or was it fixed in several attempts that made things only worse, idk.) A pity, really.

But on topic: Shouldn't there be the pathetic Steam Disaster in the flop chart?

EDIT: "worth vs. worse" ... duuuuuhhh

‘Legends of The Great Western’ deserves to be up here. £15 for a reskinned loco and a pathetic attempt at a 1980’s timetable, it was quite an insult imo.

Really Spirit Of Steam ought to be on that list somewhere, due to the massive unfulfilled potential and its subsequent abandonment along with any further work on steam traction.

Other contenders in my book have got to be; Rapid Transit for all its known flaws. Cane Creek, well it’s lovely scenery but crawling along at 20MPH for much of the Journey while reading a book is not my idea of intense simming. Sherman Hill, again largely due to wasted potential but again one of my least played routes. And TBH, Cajon Pass and the German High Speed line SKW also joined the ranks of my unlikely to ever play again routes.

The 187 with soundmod is a very good loco. Its just the utter poor soundset puts the immersion brake on that.

1938 tube stock is top1 as flop, because again a very poor sound implementation.

Flop No 2: Ny trenton for going lazy with the time table.

Flop 3: DTGs thinking ahead in layers. No 1116 on vorarlberg means they did a bad planning. Especially since it seems rocket sciencs to implement it afterwards, nobody thought about crating the layers to activate them aftee the 1116 is available. Poor show which lets my money stay inside my wallet until sale.

Have to agree on Spirit of Steam. An absolute waste, lots of work went into the route, the most complex trackwork in TSW possibly, just to be sold as a dead, empty and deserted route. Quite a shame and a treachery to the route building team.

Keeps reminding me of what TSC Workshop creator Coasty has accomplished with his Busy Monday on Woodhead Line scenario series - the amount of action there is just breathtaking and the old days are becoming alive again. Everywhere you look something's happening and you feel you are taking part in something.

Spirit of Steam definitely lacks spirit and steam...

    ARL with the "muted world."
No birds, no car sounds (except the buses in Chur), no mumbling people. Silent. Period.

The immersion is totally broken when the only thing you hear is the famous "trolley cart sound" from the EW1 coaches...
Pity, beacuse the route is joyful to drive and with the new Allegra from BER, its more realxing than ever from Arosa with the cruise control.

Nobody going to mention that some time during TSW3 somebody screwed up distant signals across the board in Germany? Most H/v distant signals show wrong aspects and all H/v repeaters are wrong, across all routes.

What about that in tsw4? What exactly is broken?

I noticed since the "linke rheinstrcke" a pzb bug. The aspects let you pass at a green aspect into a red signal with shunting aspect (before diverting into a yard or loop). No chance to slow down in time.
This is caused if at the end of a siding is a shunting signal instead of a regular main signal.

So that's 4 Rivet products and 1 DTG on the original post why doesn't that surprise me... I've been playing NYT now they they've "fix a couple of the issues" the main one for me though that really pisses me off is the signalling system, it drops me down to 45mph or less 5 miles from a red signal, surely it's not that aggressive in real life? I'm pretty sure something is broken there.

The same thing, it was just broken with release of either BRO/LFR and nobody bothered to fix it since. Ks signalling is I believe fine, but all of H/v is broken, which is signalling system present on majority of routes.

Biggest disaster is still NYT. Could have been so much more, the definitive US mixed passenger/ freight route but now pathetically abandoned.

    Dishonorable mention: Steam traction.

Also ran: Abandonment of US freight.

Agreed, at least the WCL steam has AWS.

On that fact, what about the Flying Scotsman?
    That is truly abysmal

I still play New York - Trenton because i play on consoles, where it’s not as bad. Hopefully Dovetail does scenery upgrades between Newark Airport and New York Penn. (I’m delusional)

The singaling and safety systems don't work properly. I have had issues of getting stuck because another train is stuck at a broken signal. The scenery between Newark Airport and Sunnyside Yard is awful. I've had issues AI trains running with their doors open. The passenger cars on the NJT bilevels have their lights off during the day. That route is not overhated. It is one of the worst routes DTG ever made that is still riddled with problems. It seems DTG have effectively abandoned it and won't sort out the issues still plaguing the route.

That route is definitely a flop

Spirit of steam got my goat for several reasons

    Limited wagon stock
    Atrocious FPS in the yards
Can't see a single thing at night

I'm going to say Spirit of Steam. It had such potential, it was in the works for best part of a year and the route itself is pretty decent, but my god they dropped the ball with the timetable. Liverpool Lime Street is deserted when it should have trains coming and going at all hours, light loco movements etc etc and there's none of that. The random derailments and spads still occuring to this day. We were told that it's a route the team would revisit with new DLC's and it would be a flagship route, but it just got dumped quite quickly and I'm still annoyed that the 4F wasn't layered onto Spirit of steam. Essentially, it's LOVE. And I feel sorry for those who worked so hard on it just to have it abandoned.

Please keep it fair, will 'ya! There's a mobile tanning salon running around SoS.

I have to agree. Is actually the busiest US route to date. With the LIRR layer you can have 90+ trains go in an out of Penn during Rush hour. Was it a big disappointment at release, yes. Joe did make it better with the new timetable, absolutely. It's actually one of my favorite routes in the game. just IMO

NYT - not to mention the rehashed scenery from the original NEC Route at the NY end. It looks horrible by today’s standards and doesn’t fit with the rest of the route. I don’t usually bandy the word lazy around but I think I’m justified in this case, although it’s probably more of a cost cutting exercise from the bean counters.
