I am having an issue with the track not connecting in my route with DEM data, if I were to lay track in a completely levelled 'no DEM data' route. I don't even get this problem. What am I doing wrong? I am trying to convert my route to 3ft6in track I found on the NZTS website as I don't have any narrow gauge routes that I could use the track from.
To create points you need both sets of tracks to be at the same height at least for the run into the points and out the other side(s) for some reasonable distance but not more than a couple of metres beyond the throat and the point where the rails have fully diverged. The tracks also need to be of the same type. Probably teaching you to suck eggs but I often forget when I try to lay points on a gradient. Use the gradient tool to make sure that the point is exactly level to start with and then you can slope the entrance and exits from the points afterwards.
That makes perfect sense. Thanks for the heads up on laying points with gradients, I would have probably asked that question next HAHA I've got at least 2 sets of points in my Queensland route that are on gradients, but I can get away with them being close to the ground levelled with the terrain
