Most of us on here know about the shadow detail on the track that pops in at a relatively close distance. We cant extend it and DTG cant really improve it for performance reasons.
I play on PC and as a result can choose to have high quality shadows still with track popping or no shadows, the latter results in a much much smoother fps rate but a substandard look in terms of trees, in cab lighting etc. However one thing that I didn't really miss from shadows on or shadows off, were the shadows cast by the track rails themselves.
This leads me to think, if it was possible to keep shadow casting as it is, but somehow exclude the sleepers, rails, 3rd rails from the real time aspect of the light source casting a shadow. This could remove the popping in of shadows rendering on the track and improve fps across all platforms.
To address concerns that track wouldn't fit in with the general look of the route, if it became the case, maybe an illusion to give a more 3d presence in the painting of the rail assets.
