Hello, so I just recently picked up the Bernina Pass route, but the train seems to accelerate way too fast, which means I can go from 0-100KPH in just a few seconds when I move the throttle too far forward. Basically, it feels like the train has the acceleration of a high-end sports car, which doesn't seem right to me. Is the train supposed to be like this, or is there a fix for it? Thanks
Are you talking about one of the two Train Simulator routes, or the Train Sim World one? If it's Train Simulator there may be a fix for it or you could just fix it yourself, if it's TSW (in which case you're in the wrong subforum anyway but I'll keep going) there's nothing you can really do about it.
The Allegra unit is very powerful, 3,200hp on the Bernina, as it can pull up to 8 or 9 passenger coaches. These sets replaced a lot of the locos that worked trains on the Albula line If you are accelerating a single set without a train it will take off like a rocket.
How is it compared to this? Metric numbers are also 1.6x of imperial, so it feels faster. And DC stock is generally weaker. I was questioning the acceleration of the TSC Talent 2 (on the Garmisch routes) but then ran a service to a real timetable, got penalized for overly aggressive driving, and I was late. Tried to look for a CAF tram video as well from our city. 10 kph/sec is fairly tolerable while standing.
Thanks for the help, however I'm confused by the second part of your reply. What do you mean by a single set without a train? Iin the scenario I created, I used a 6 car train which I think is 2 sets of the 3 cars connected together.
Not sure what the throttle is at in the video, but in the sim it was much faster than that. Like the other person said it really felt like a rocket even with a 6 car train.
Just the EMU, or multiple (like a double-triple Flirt). I didn't play this DLC but many screenshots (and reality) involve the EMU also pulling some coaches or wagons. Instead of pulling them with a locomotive. It is relatively unusual operations, as the coupling and breaking systems need to be compatible. But of course Stadler in those days was very much spotlighting their ability for custom builds. Point is, the EMU is relatively overpowered for being just by itself. Likely there is an operating instruction limiting to certain power levels solo. Our Flirts are limited somewhat in that way. The video I shared must have been sort of bragging, but there have been passenger videos of your food sliding off the table at stations, also draining so much power that older locos had issues. For the Flirts I found a some numbers: 1.2-1.3 m/s2 acceleration (*3.6 kph), 200 kN starting force, 2600 kW starting and 2000 kW continuous power. For the Allegra, it has 280 kN and 2320 kW continuous power (the expression 2800 = 2400 is a bit confusing about starting power ). All that said, it might be still overpowered in the sim.
In real life the Allegra units don't run together. If you couple two units then the power to weight ratio is the same so the acceleration is the same. Normal formation is One unit and a number of coaches that used to be pulled by a Loco. This picture of the Bernina Express has One Allegra unit and 6 passenger coaches. That is why the sets are so powerful.
I have just tried a scenario with 4 carriages and the acceleration does seem a bit quick. I took it down to the speed being in KPH, not MPH. A lot of the maximum speed limit on the scenario that I did was 60KPH.
