Too early - besides people beeing hesitant to invest in another game with new routes, they already have in tsw. But time will tell. When it comes to steam, I certanly will check it out, since I'm fed up with tsw.

Looks interesting and if it comes to PS5 I could be interested in trying it. DTG needs some competition and if the competition turns out better, bye bye DTG… forever!

Happy to see more rail Sims coming out, not just for competition but just giving alternative ways of playing a train simulator and different development styles. While I'm unfortunately on XSX, I'm excited to see where this goes! :)

the demo can be accessed actually, just figured that out. while the demo has no store page and no community page etc., it itself does exist, you can install it via Steam DataBase

    https://steamdb.info/app/2804760/

on the top right it says install. then allow it to open that in Steam and then select your install drive, the usual process.

Looks interesting. We have a (rudimentary) EBuLa. Lighting seems more balanced than in TSW. 218 sound is - nice!

You have to wait correctly for the torque converter to be filled before notching up from notch 1.

Video settings cannot be customised atm, it's a very early demo.

Very first impressions - v v nice, great visuals and the physics feel nice as well. Just ran the tutorial from Duren with the diesel, love the way the loco shakes a bit when you fire it up! Fps a bit lowish (40fps) sometimes but otherwise nice and smooth. I just wonder if Unity is a better engine for train sims.
Had to laugh a bit at the intro music, reminds me of something...

Those shadow drawing and popping distances certainly look familiar. Except that this is an "Early Access" (technically not even that) and TSW is advertised like the 8th world wonder.

But I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for bringing it to attention!

if anyone wants to listen to it I uploaded the main menu music seperately on YT so you don't need to let the game eat your RAM just to listen to it (which is exactly my case :D)

I obvously did not make this. just so this is clear. read the desc lmao

    It looks very interesting!.
Even they have the RRX Licence too!
I have seen a video on Youtube, showed train traffic at Stolberg station, and you see several RRX trains there.
Furthermore TGV Thalys trains do this route too.
DTG has the license of SNCF, but not Thalys one.
Will be great to have TGV trains there too.

Hopes DTG get the license for them, and hopes be included too, on the announced update of Koln - Aachen route traffic.

I mean, looks interesting, graphics is nice... will see when it gets more into its development, how it controls, how stuff works... I am interested at this point, will see how this one does, hopefully better than SimRail atm :)

    Is that unreal 5?
    The graphics are really good.
I hope they make a UK route or two cause it would be awesome to see a route I recognise made with those graphics! :o

It's been built on Unity, not Unreal.

Crashes to desktop regularly for me.

No chance at all in TSW. Only ZUSI 3 has fully functional Ebula. Just ZUSI 3 is a product of higher quality

6 cars instead of 8. let me guess. part of the train upgrading system in the game where you can add more cars? honestly, personally opinion'd thats a bad feature, but maybe it's just me. but the train itself looks good already I guess

yep but you get the most badass realism... if you can play ZUSI like a boss with like 1 Zwangsbremsung in 1000 yrs lol, then you might as well apply for a job with DB :D

Strange, I got only 198 MB update for it, unless that was another one downloaded sometime later after the 2 GB one.

The graphics engine here is based on Unity, as is the case with SimRail. I have now seen the first test version videos and it can definitely keep up with the Unreal Engine graphically. You can see well-modeled trains, great volume light effects, 3D clouds and even a lens flare of the sun that doesn't yet exist in TSW.
But now comes some criticism: the frame rate performance is not yet smooth enough. Sure it's a demo, but that can kill the immersion. The same route from Achen to Cologne has also been implemented that already exists for TSW. The ICE Velaro and the Desiro HC are brand new vehicles, but the 218 is also being developed for TSW and we already know the Eurofima IC wagons.
An interesting fact from the developers: it is the same studio that developed Fishing Planet. The fact that railway developers have a fishing past seems somewhat familiar to me. ;) It may well be that the base game is offered as a free to play title and every new train or rolling stock will have to be purchased. So it's a similar principle to DCS, Star Trek Online or EA games, where you can buy in-game currency.

In the end, the question is whether enough fans can get excited about it. Since only German trains and routes are currently shown, the fan base is regionally limited for the time being. Similar to SimRail, which focused on Poland.

It looks nice in Early Access already.
What will be the actual gameplay?
It seems you need to take care of your rolling stock, the BR218 has a whole catalog of spare and replacement parts, and there is a bank account linked to your player.
So you perhaps earn money performing passenger and freight services, and need to spend money maintaining your trains?

It runs on Unity, like SimRail, Derail Valley and Railroader.

I was kind of interested but then I saw the dreaded word...."Unity".
It might be less of an issue for PC gamers but when 'open world' and/or 'complex game mechanics' are thrown into the mix, my overall experience with this game engine on XBox is that of terrible draw distances and poor performance.

I like this so far. Nice environment graphics and good sounds (on the BR218 anyway).
The feeling of weight in both acceleration and braking is excellent.
I'm also quite impressed with the level of detail in the scoring system.
I dropped my texture res to 1/2 and got 35-45 fps on a 3080 ftw3 so optimisation will no doubt improve as develpoment progresses.

Yes, it has bugs, texture issues, and crashes occasionally, but it's an excellent start imho.

Well, not necessarily the case, unfortunately, as we've seen with The Bus, Tram Sim, Subway Sim...

Such a shame since all of them are brilliant otherwise. TSW could arguably also fall into this category with the stutter issue that is still present after all these years.

I don't think TSW has too much to worry about just yet. Tried the demo and it reminded me of BVE but without the great audio, 218 sounds nowt like a real 218 no screamin rabbit there. Needs a lot of work to get it into fine fettle but I won't be uninstalling TSW for quite some time yet.
    Just sayin.

Actually many train sims can happily coexist. Each one is lacking something another one provides. And in the end, competition on the market is something we players can only profit from.

HUD looks a bit err, but graphics are certainly looking nice and other stuff, looks like potential as a good competitor for TSW though.

(I do wonder what DTG’s response would be if any 3rd party also did development for a competitor kinda franchise like this, would they have an agreement where they can’t or no open issue…)

Not tried the demo. Looks interesting but TBH at this point (and 25 years ago I would never have said this) we are in in danger of getting train sim overload. I mean, SimRail, Derail Valley, JR East, Run 8 and Railroader all sat on my PC largely dormant while I find myself drawn into TSC or TSW most evenings. If I’m not busy in Snowrunner or the truck sims.

tl:dr if the business model is going to be like tablet games, free to play but bombard you with adverts and in game currency packs which you need to buy to make progress then it will be a pass for me.

Yes, plus others like Zusi and openbve which get regular use from me as well. The weird thing is, for me, we still don't have the perfect sim as yet. We have all the ingredients but no one has successfully merged them together yet. I'm talking about graphics, physics, performance (at least 60fps at all times, no stutter) playability and route locations. Simrail is v close, but no UK route is a shame.

I really need to start saving the pennies and buy Zusi 3. Got the ancient V2 but rarely fire it up. Think I did buy it on one of the rare times it had a sale discount a couple of years ago but ended up refunding. Found the interface confusing and the optimisation for both 4K monitors and English language is not perfect. And I still feel it should have some sort of save game or checkpoint to resume a longer run, if you can only manage a 45 minute or so session.

  49. Spikee1975

    Spikee1975 Guest

As this game is not about achievements or ticking off completed services, you can always resume a run by jumping into the timetable at a given time. Contact me for help with Zusi, it's a wolf in sheep's clothing and can be confusing in the beginning. It comes with a comprehensive manual. Of course you have nothing to lose by just learning by doing. The controls are simple and the same for each loco.

The complexity and variety and very much alive railroad is rewarding. The timetables are full with lots of different era stock and services! It's a sim to keep forever imho. If you're one of the guys that don't need super modern graphics, and immersion is triggered in your brain by getting the feeling this is a sim you can trust to do its job, go ahead.

There's a dedicated website to select your preferred train from the currently 17,353 services.

I know how good it can be from Zusi 2! Well if it gets a reasonable discount in the Easter Steam sale I will probably take the plunge again.
