Reminds me of the Comet design which they mostly are derived from.
The major U.S carrier of the original Comets series (Which these MBTA cars derived from) is NJ transit.
They also share some similarity's to the Shoreliner series of cars used on Metro North services and CTDOT (Connecticut Department of Transportation)

One thing is for certain, the Comets series and it's sub series's of rail cars have left their legacy in the East Coast of the U.S, as they are still used in almost all areas of commuter services.

Below is a picture of the original Comet cars, these cars are what inspired the Shoreliner and the MBB (Models BTC-3 & CTC-3) varients of commuter passenger cars in the Eastern U.S.
    download.jpeg
Above: While the original Pullman Standard Comet I's have been retired from service, their legacy lives on in various forms. The Comet II, IV and V series are still in operation on NJTransit. The Shoreliner variant shown below.
    1200px-Poughkeepsie_Bound.jpg
Above: is the Shoreliner variant based off the Comet series. Notice MTA Metro-North cars are painted Blue and CTDOT cars are painted Red. These cars are still serving our Metro-North and CTDOT operations to this day and have proven their reliability to our operations. However they are showing their age now, and not too far in the future they will be replaced.

Can someone please confirm whether the passengers shown in the pre-release screenshots will be the new ones or not?

They look the 'same' to me. However, I'm sure that's an old screenshot.
Only the 'Team' could answer that for you.

I'm guessing the F40PH-3C has manually lapped brakes? I think they're fine on Caltrain, but it's definitely not the best form of braking out there.

I did a photo survey of MBTA equipment. I was not involved in any sound recording.

Since Matt said the cab will not be the same as the existing one from the Caltrain F40, I would expect to see something like this (most -3 locomotives are rebuilt units using more modern electronic controls, hence the "dash 3" designation and computer screens replacing gauges on some models):

It doesn't have the screens. It's not the *same* cab as the Caltrain F40PH, but it equally isn't radically different either.

For audio on the 3C and the coaches + cab car, we're working with a US sound engineer who also makes TS1 content and he's been able to source some new recordings of the 3C and other equipment and has been learning the TSW tools to bring them into the game with great effect (in my opinion, i'll let you judge when you hear it of course, and look forward to your feedback).

    Matt.

    Oh ok.

Nice, can't wait to hear them, hopefully the sound engineer can continue to work with DTG providing sounds for American trains, and even make content for TSW one day.

Screenshots are nice to see, despite the issue with the Dresden route I hope NEC and BML continue to shine in rush hour and I still hold out for interesting content in the Dresden route and nice to hear about sounds on the loco’s for NEC

Lapped braking system is pretty good, it allows the motorman or T/O to set a certain amount of brake pressure. Unlike more modern "fixed" braking systems, lapped braking allows more freedom (if you will) of applying how much brake pressure you'd like on the train. This also takes lots of trial and error to set the correct amount of pressure, it can be really rewarding to master this lapped braking system.

As for the F40PH-3C, it is confirmed by Matt the brakes are self-lapped unlike on Caltrain's one as stated... upload_2021-7-23_21-7-20.png

Oh for sure, I really like the manually lapped brakes when driving Caltrain services. It's really satisfying to get a good stop. But I must admit I'm glad to hear that the F40PH-3C has self lapped brakes, because manually lapped doesn't sound as fun in the big and busy Boston area.

It‘s the type you‘re probably used to. You set the brake handle to 20% and 20% brakes are applied etc.

    Welcome back (*Boston*) NEC

In the next ten (ok,let's make twenty) years it would be nice to see it joined with the New York section. So the Acela (or Avelia) will have/make a sense.

Will the safety systems present on the ACS-64 now function correctly? I hope so because it's been four years since the previous NEC (for which I personally felt love and hate).

I don't know why they're going with this super dark colour practically everywhere. It's good for rarely used old tracks in yards, not mainlines, high-speed lines, etc.

I can't really tell that much from a couple of screenshots, but they look OK. We really need a couple of live streams in order to make any worthwhile comments. This isn't the first Amtrak route DTG have made, so it should be up there with their best work. I'm getting just a little bit hyped.:)

It's unbelievable how long we've waited for this route. I trust the next NA passenger route won't take forever.

It had better be good considering a lot of us had bought NEC for TSW2020!
I guess you could exclude it's pricing from the Rush Hour pack too, even if it is different content.

Good observation with the classes of push pull rail cars. I am confident if rush hour is successful, we may see some more American passenger routes. With the release of rush hour not too far away, hopefully we can get some more Amtrak routes, along with NJT, Metro North and hopefully an expansion of the LIRR. The Metro North Shoreliner I, II, III and IV are my favorite push pull coaches/cab car series. Recently, some of the Bombardier Shoreliners have received a bit of TLC it seems, with new chairs in a blue/turqouise paint scheme, similar to what can be found on the M3A. I have also noticed some of the Shoreliners have received LED marker lights recently as well. Hopefully the Shoreliners will serve passenger service for atleast another decade or two.

I know its probably a long shot, and wont happen.....

But it would be nice if Dovetail added in the 2 special Amtrak ACS-64's for this route...

    Amtrak 600 - David L Gunn
    siem_216000_56.jpg

    Amtrak 642 - Veterans Unit
    vets-loco.jpg

But knowing that we didn't get extra paint schemes for Clinchfield, I doubt we will get this for Boston.....

They did that for SEHS though, so it’s definitely something they have the ability to do, but I doubt they’ll go through with it since other US routes have left out this feature as you mentioned.

It‘s the simplest form of brake controls which most locos in TSW use. You set the brake handle to 20% and 20% brakes are applied. This is in contrast to manually lapped brakes, where you put the brake handle into service until the desired braking force is reached and then hold that pressure by putting the brake handle into lap.

I’m really hoping the Veterans unit can make it into the game, showing up randomly like the “trainbow” class 395 does on SEHS. They seem to be going all out for this DLC so I’ll remain hopeful, but I’m sure a preview stream will confirm or deny this.

Those cab cars were definitely used in the past so just think of it as a historical route and it’ll make sense.

I made this thread suggesting 2 loco packs for this route. Not sure if it’s possible since we’ve never seen anything like it before but it would definitely sell better than the normal loco DLC’s.

I don’t really enjoy American trains but I am buzzing for this one. I hope it comes out first.

I never liked German trains before TSW2 so maybe this will convert me too!

These single level cars look great, even if they are not entirely accurate to real life operations, these cars are still amazing.
While these cars might run far less in capacity as they used to be on this line currently, they sill are present and operate from time to time.

Although their is possibility for the MBTA Bi-level cars as well as an Acela DLC for Boston-Providence route. (Preferably the latter I will be excited for)
