Noticed this recently when playing LIRR and some UK routes... when in cab and using the default view, when I click and drag on sliders (certain switches), sometimes it doesnt catch (or it blips before catching on), or it interrupts the slider

I tried: - cleaning stuff in a program like Ccleaner (cookies etc)
    - plugging mouse off and back in
    - redownloading one or more DLCs

it is mostly gone, though - sometimes it still does that

on some forums I read this might be because of an occasional issue between graphics and mouse - like points where the game registers the click, which can differ depending also on player position, I guess?

it might be my OCD lol, but I am trying to determine if it aint a mouse issue

Depending on the mouse you are using, it could be a faulty mouse click mechanism. This could lead to unintended double-clicking or "unclicking" when held. I recently had a Logitech G500s start doing this, and it can be very difficult to be sure of the cause.

Research the model of mouse you have, as some have been known to go faulty regardless of age.

Obviously, if the mouse is faulty, the issue would occur on every route, not just some. It would also happen outside of the game.
razmatus#2517 Can you confirm if this is the case?

sometimes it helps if I blow a bit of air under the left mouse button, so it could have been dirt in the mechanism (last time)... but then, sometimes it does a lot, sometimes not at all... outside the game dragging the mouse or actions like selecting stuff work just fine

my mouse is Logitech G502 Hero... so dunno, it has like 3 or 4 yrs of age... mostly works fine, I noticed this issue only in TSW

Sounds like it's time for a new mouse, then.
As it happens, I am using a G502 HERO myself, bought in August 2017. My son, who plays a lot of FPS games, needs a new one every year. So, I keep an eye on it at Amazon, and buy a "spare" whenever there's a sale on it (usually 40-50% off).

I will do some "testing" in different cabs to see how mouse/sliders behave... I hope it is not the mouse... I like comfy ergonomical mouses, and I dont feel like shelling out like 30-50 euros atm :/ ... at least

Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of discussion around the G502 having a double click issue. For me the issue was intermittent, so it was difficult to reliability reproduce the problem, but it got worse and a new mouse solved it. If you have the necessary skills, a repair could be possible.

the best mouse I have ever had was Gigabyte GM-M8000X (got the ordinary version and that one broke in a year, got that one as a replacement), unfortunately that model is not made anymore :( (I still keep it around for memory's sake)... might try to clean it without dismantling it, since I dont want to ruin it before it really goes bad

aaand I guess it is time to look for a new mouse then after, like almost 4yrs O:) ... will still try to save this one, since new US DLCs are coming around and I want to play em :D
