I’ve seen many pc players excited about tsw4 because they finally have access to the route editor, and rightly so. But that leaves me with a question, what is there for console players to get excited about? The ‘new features’ are all small things that could’ve come in an update so I don’t see why dtg think they can offer us a new game with poor route choice and charge lots of money for it
Well, DTG are a game developer and publisher, so making new games and charging for them are how they stay in business. To be fair as well, the cost of the new title offers much better value for money than a standard piece of DLC, as with the basic edition you're getting 3 brand new routes for very slightly more money than a standard route DLC, plus all the new features of the core game.
Just to offer a different perspective: Wouldn't it be equally as fair to say that it only represents better value for money because we're arguably paying way, way over the odds for a standard DLC? After all, if you went out and purchased, say, a racing game that only came out with three circuits and a handful of cars or a FPS with only three maps and a sprinkling of guns, what level of value would you put on them?
FPS & Racing games have quite a sizeable difference in market size compared to a simulator. If you want cheap train sims then go ahead & get one, there is a few out there but they don’t come close to DTG’s level of detail. I’m not saying every DLC is worth what it costs, but when they get it right, DTG do charge a fair price.
I know but I'm answering the question. Asseto Corsa is like that. There are even more examples but not on console. Some racing simulators on PC are more expensive than TSW
The most confusing thing about this is that pc players are getting access to the editor and paying the same as console players, which would make one think that dtg should offer something exclusively for console players to make the price fair
For as far as I understand what the editor is it's something that is free for PC users owning TSW4. It allows people to make their own stuff and then can be used as content for other players. You basically start working for free for DTG. I can't speak for other console users but do you really think you would be using this kind of editor on consoles? DTG has a long way to go before they can release creation tools on consoles. The UI of TSW has only become console friendly in TSW3. As far as creation goes I don't see anything happening in the foreseeable future. Not to say I always can be proven wrong What I want from the editor is only the content generated by PC users for now but I don't think we will get that in TSW4. Let the PC users beta test it.
Console gamers are also getting higher levels of framerate drops, more pop-in, larger amounts of layer butchering (gen8), longer periods of time without a sale (XBox), exclusive omission from content preview streams and superior quantities of poor draw distances. Pfff, hardly worth buying it on PC when all you're getting is a piddly editor
I may have misunderstood when they were explaining it on the stream, but I was under the impression that the editor itself is made by and downloaded from Epic, and the version we get just has some TSW specific tools added, so DTG didn't really make the bulk of the editor. Going back to the earlier reply to my first post, I would agree with the statement that the route DLCs are overpriced now, and I have definitely cut back on the number I buy, and tend to wait for higher % discounts. There are also a few I haven't picked up due to the lack of quality and the amount of bugs that made it to release. Still, with the insane cost of living lately, the perceived value of the dollar means I still don't consider the routes to be outrageously overpriced, and if they're relatively bug free, I still consider picking them up with 10% off to be decent enough value.
I don’t really understand the add ons manager but I can guarantee it’s not as good as the route editor
No, I never expected to, but I would think dtg would offer something special exclusively for console to make up for paying the same but not getting the main feature
I know it sounds crazy but yes, mostly to fix issues that won't be adressed anyway like false train setup configurations (light, pantograph), adding more rolling stock into the routes or expanding the timetables of older DLC... I wouldn't even bother to fizzle around with an on-screen-keyboard if it would just be possible
Depends on how you look at it, do you like seeing all your owned routes installed? I don’t mean to presume or offend, but I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t be able to use the editor anyway.
That was just unnecessary. I’ve made quite a few little things in TS over the years and I’d feel confident enough knowing the basics of the tsw editor. Besides, you only learn by doing.
Pretty much every single other game in existence costs more on console than on PC so we're actually doing well getting it for the same price for a change.
