Train Sim World 5 Free Starter Pack – Extended until Early 2025!

Thank you to everyone who has joined us with the Train Sim World 5 release over the last month, we’ve been very excited to keep growing the TSW community and welcoming even more players on to the rails as we head into the new year.

Today, we’re happy to announce that our Free Starter Pack will no longer run until October 17th, and instead will remain to be available to claim and keep forever until the new year, early 2025! We’ve seen so many of you jumping in to try TSW5 for the first time, inviting your friends and communities to give it a go, and we’ve welcomed so many new players into the franchise for the first time.

As a reminder, if you’re already a big fan of TSW, but haven’t yet upgraded into TSW5 – make sure to claim the Free Starter Pack before it goes away, as it will stay in your account to play forever, and it will also be your way to access the latest improvements and features. You'll also be able to purchase new TSW5 content, like the upcoming MBTA Commuter route, and, if you already own it, gain access to Great Western Express Remastered without the need to pay anything!

For more information on the Free Starter Pack, please read our Train Sim World 5 FAQs.

    Content Up Ahead
MBTA Commuter: Boston-Worcester/Framingham Line – Coming October 29th

Kicking off our Roadmap, we want to share more information about the first new add-on coming to Train Sim World 5 – get ready to catch MBTA Commuter: Boston – Framingham/Worcester, releasing on October 29th, 2024!

This route will feature a range of commuter and long-distance traffic coming from Boston South Station, heading off due west in the direction of Framingham and Worcester in the Commonwealth State of Massachusetts. You’ll be operating the new MBTA HSP46 diesel locomotive, as well as the MBTA F40PH-3C and the BTC / CTC Coaches (Bi-level and single-level coaches).

We’ve got a dedicated article to deep dive into the services, new locos and gameplay you can expect in the MBTA Commuter route later this week, and for today we wanted to share a small range of reference images that our audio teams were able to capture that showcase a recent trip to the US in order to better represent and reflect this add-on in Train Sim World 5.

West Coast Main Line: Preston-Carlisle – Just Trains
Since our initial announcement of the WCML: Preston – Carlilse route, the JT team have continued to share new update posts on their blog that detail more about what you can expect from the add-on, as well as details about the station and history of the route era.

Just Trains: “In this route we’ve authentically recreated the 1986/1987 timetable using the correct working timetable and photographs of said services to provide as realistic an experience as possible, including formations and train lengths accurate as close as possible to that of the real trains.

Both Carlisle and Preston feature numerous locomotive changes throughout the day from diesel to electric traction and vice versa with some diagrams requiring the station pilot(s) to help facilitate a locomotive change.”

On their recent blog, the Just Trains team also shared a timelapse video showcasing movements at Carlisle Station over a couple of hours.

Feel free to read more from the Just Trains blog on their website, with additional details, as well as required layers to make the most about the upcoming experience.

    First Major Post-Release patch
We heard that many of you are still struggling with performance issues at times during gameplay on TSW5 core routes, and at times crashing, which has likely been due to memory usage limits being reached. This is one of our teams top priorities to address, and we've been investigating ways that we can help save memory across all platforms, to help reducing the amount of crashes we're seeing, and this first patch will be the first to add some of those changes.

These improvements are almost ready to send out to you all, and outside of the optimisations mentioned above to help improve your experiences, it will also include sweeping changes for all of TSW5 core content, adding key fixes for community raised issues, and additional fixes to others routes, including Bremen-Oldenburg, Niddertalbahn and Rosenheim.

    West Coast Main Line
    • Euston lighting changes, added OHLE outside Milton Keynes, Bletchley station texture fix, Watford junction signage updated
    • Improvements to stop passengers clumping in stations and getting clogged on stairs / passageways
    • Class 350 headlights no longer stay on when de-activated in the cab
    • Class 350 added track joint sounds, updated gangway door audio and removed clicking sounds in fans
    Frankfurt Fulda
    • Fixed BR 114 brakes not working correctly
    • Fixed a gap in BR 411 the gangway
    • Updated BR 411 digital screens and ensured they tilt with the train
    San Bernardino
    • Adjusted duration of services and scenarios to ensure they can be completed within time limits
    • Added additional car traffic to some areas
    • Fixed various floating assets found around Covina
    FlixTrain BR 193 Vectron
    • Distributor release valve can now be interacted with
    • Exterior brake indicators now display as expected
    • Hose pipes of the Talbot coaches are now connected at the gangway
    • Brakes no longer release by themselves if cab is deactivated
We're still finalising the patch and compiling the notes, there are many more not listed on the above list which target key issues raised by the community, and you should be able to expect this coming very soon.
Additionally, as a longer term project, our teams have been working on a wider plan of WCML timetable improvements, including adding new services to the route. These timetable changes do not have a timeline for release yet, and when we have more details we will let you know. As a note, currently these changes are planned for PC, XSX, and PS5 platforms.

Thank you for waiting patiently whilst we work on these updates and implementing community feedback, we'll continue to work on additional improvements and support the launch of Train Sim World 5.

So you insist on not wanting to put any new rolling stock (not even a freight car) on the Kaiserslautern route?
Well, I'll leave it in the Steam store this time!

Well that was a bit underwhelming, to be honest. I was hoping to hear more about the upcoming interesting stuff, like Tadami Line or the dutch route. And alongside those it would be also great to see more of the GWE remaster or any info about the Santa Fe gameplay pack.

Hopefully the patch notes coming later this week will be more interesting.

Positive news. It’s not a purchase for me yet, but once we get more details, I’m now optimistic that I’ll acquire this route. It should’ve been there from the start, but since we’re in this situation, I’m happy for it to take as long as it needs to get right, because there’ll only be one shot at this.

So to use the ICE-T in Timetable Mode on Dresden Riesa I have to pay €35 or will DTG also change the original Timetable?

Kinda seems like they didn't have much to show this month and maybe should have just skipped it.

    ATS' route looks promising

No screenshots for MBTA Commuter that launches in 3 weeks is a little concerning. Really hope it turns out good.

JT's route had seemed a little closer to arrival in previous updates- wonder if they ran into a snag or two?

The updated expert 101 timetables are awesome, but still no suspension update for the expert 101 is pretty pathetic for a premium product- i mean it really should have been there at launch tbh!

And not even a peep about WCMLS timetable- like just have the courage to say you're not going to fix it!

EDIT: I was wrong they make vague promises in the actual article- maybe put the vague promises in the TL;DR lol

Apart from the already known about Fife Circle branch line, Rivet is conspicuous by its absence.

    Manchester Airport route looks interesting.

Manchester airport run a nice suprise.
Glasgow to Edinburgh expanded timetable nice.
Timetable improvements for wcml are very welcome.
Skyhooks freight 3/4 adds so much to so many routes.
Fife circle getting some love,a bit more life on the line, good stuff.
    Thanks

Really disapointing Roadmap for fans of DE content. Only relevant information is that TSG is making new DE route (which is great as we know Niddertalbahn being the nicest route ever appeared in TSW, so the expectations are high). The BR 101 Ex. updates is already know thanks to guys from TSG who’s informing community in related thread. Except this, only new content for England content. Dissapointing. No new info/screenshots about upcomming DE routes and Locos!

Everything is in different stages of development. There's always going to be players disappointed. Same argument could be said for the us content and the uk content if they don't like the routes coming out. Patience you must have

I would just wish for a bit more new rolling stocks. The routes sound all nice but it doesn't feel like there is much new rolling stock on it. But besides there are a few nice routes on it. Looking forward to it

The pictures of the MBTA reference trip are very impressive. Nice to see DTG stepped inside a workshop. Im sure this is a motivation for the team, the real thing away from the office desk ;)

No worries, there is no chance the jeans will stay clean when climbing on the locos and being around the bogies.

Theres going to be an article releasing later this week which will have a “deep dive into the services, new locos and gameplay you can expect in the MBTA Commuter route later this week,” still a little worried though because this and the Santa Fe Gameplay pack are the only things U.S players are getting for the foreseeable future.

    Disappointing.
The Class 104 looks dead to me.
ATS route another stop/start bus service not even going to Crewe.
MBTA, not sure that's really going to be my bag.
Very vague on the forthcoming fixes with the caveat that might form the basis of a subsequent article.
In summary, apart from the JT route there's really nothing there likely to coax money out of my Steam Wallet into TSW.

so that means that in Bremen Oldenburg now not only BR 101 will be expert simulated, but also the IC coaches will be expert in the consist? (atm the full expert simulation of the whole consist is only in, as far as I know, Dresden Riesa and Rosenheim Salzburg)

now thats sth I am looking forward to

TSG DE route I think will be interesting.
For Mannheim Kaiserslautern it is a bit disapointing that there seems to be no new trainsets.
Still missing an actual DE route with Flirt3, 1440 or 648 ad these are the trains you see running nearly everywhere but not in the game so far

As I expected, nothing much for the US for the foreseeable future after the MBTA commuter route. I guess DTG's abandonment of US freight has become permanent.

I kinda like the new US route... more US passenger stuff with working safety systems :) ... as much as I enjoy Metrolink routes and trains, the lack of safety system enforcement is a bit of a bummer for me :) ... I want ATC and ACSES beeping hell :D

Only 1 page of comments so far on a new roadmap.

I haven't seen this little enthusiasm around here in a long while.

Maybe it's just because we're only a month out from launch but usually this is one of the busiest discussions on here (positive or negative)

And who knows when Gary and the HIS group will even start to work on that, they are still releasing content over on TSC.

-HIS recently teased a scenario pack for Feather River
-They have a route (Bozeman Pass) still yet to come out
-Reppo recently released a GP60M for TSC

Yet still no word on their TSW side of content. If they aren't committed to TSW at this point, they shouldn't of announced anything.

Damn, I'll 100% buy it stupidly because of the length!)

I was looking forward to this roadmap but also feel a little underwhelmed now.

I thought the GWE re-master might have a release date or at least an indication. The ATS route whilst looking good is underwhelming in many ways. Shap is probably the main interest still plus the Cardiff network, I just hope it doesn't come with the modern DMU (the class of which I forget).

I am glad they are looking at polishing WCMLS and they seem to be looking at the timetable too.

The TSG, Dutch and Union Workshop routes are all interesting, can't wait to see what the TSG route will be.

The USA route looks like it would be interesting, I like Boston Sprinter, will see what it looks like on the stream.

Nothing on the editor bugs? Timeline for cooking and packing? This was promised as a day 1 feature for TSW 5 editor. I bought TSW5 because of this and now it's not even mentioned on the roadmap?

A roadmap when we learn that in 0-3 month we are getting a German TSG route is never a bad roadmap.

You speak truth, but how is it not even named if it's coming out so soon? Maybe that was a typo?

I cannot moan about that roadmap. The upcoming routes/extentions, etc. sound promising.

Really sad ATS doesn’t go to Crewe.

    Would’ve provided:
    • More 390 layering
    • Better options for layering of Cardiff city network stock
    • Route for XC voyager if we ever get it

I’m only just getting around to watching it, would have liked to have seen a few more things but I’ve just picked up a few routes to keep me busy as it is.

The ATS route is a surprise for sure! Where does it end exactly? I don’t believe that was mentioned in the article. It’s not super long and in the same area as Glossop Line, which is already a route that is famous for being quite solid quality-wise but pretty boring and repetitive in the long run because of its short length and monotone service patterns. I feel like we’re in for a repeat here, no matter how good the route is it’s just too short and in an area we’ve explored in a similar fashion already. That being said, maybe they’ll surprise us and make it really cheap (like… less than 20 pounds) considering the rolling stock and terminus are both reused.
Announcing the first route at short notice instead of teasing it for over a year (looking at certain other new developers who clearly bit off more than they can chew) is certainly a cool thing, and I’m excited for bigger projects by ATS.

Finally some news on the Leven branch! I’m quite familiar with the construction of the branch, so it’s great to see little details like the construction work on the new pedestrian bridge adjacent to Cameron Bridge station. Overall, it looks really great, and considering how long this very short branch took to complete, I hope that time period was used to make sure the rest of the route has been brought up to that standard as well. I’d love to finally buy this route if it reaches the quality level we hoped for back at release half a year ago. The livery for the 158 is a cool touch as well. One of the more complex paint jobs in TSW, it certainly makes the overly high price for the ScotRail 158 a tad more acceptable (should nonetheless cost about two thirds of what it currently does imo).

I’m not a freight guy, so I’ve never really cared about the Cargo Line packs (although I do appreciate how much the freight players enjoy the variety they bring). But that Vol. 4 - Military pack has got me intrigued. Some tanks or camouflaged consists would be a cool sight to see! Speaking of Skyhook, I like how well they take care of their old content (such as MML, which is getting some of the new TSW5 features like guard mode).

Wish we could’ve heard a bit more about the other add-ons. Surely we could’ve at least gotten the name of the incoming TSG route? We’re getting to a stage again where important announcements are being made too late for community feedback to be of any use, which is worrying. Show us some more in-progress screenshots, we want to go behind the scenes!

Excited about the post release patches, it’s been a bit quiet on that front lately. The game is overall in a playable state, but there are still many small- to medium-sized issues that need to be resolved, as detailed by myself and many others in the feedback threads. I’ve spotted some of the issues I’ve brought up in the patch notes already, which is a good sign.

Overall, there were some nice surprises in here (like the surprise Manchester route, Leven branch images and military Cargo Line pack), and I’m excited to hear more info on the upcoming add-ons in the next roadmaps!

For anyone one interested in ATS' upcoming route, I've created a Facebook post here

Unable to read it? See post below:

For anyone not sure or confused about ATS’ upcoming route, I have explained below the lines which will be included, as well as the rolling stock you’d likely see on this line in TSW.

Note: This information is just based off the geographical knowledge I have of the area and its real life operations. The services available in TSW MAY differ to what is listed below. ATS and/or DTG will confirm more when ready.

The route and its potential drivable services:

    Northern Class 323:
    - Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Airport
    - Manchester Piccadilly to Wilmslow and Alderley Edge
    - Manchester Piccadilly to Crewe via Styal (drivable until Alderley Edge in game)
    - Manchester Piccadilly to Crewe via Stockport (drivable until Alderley Edge in game)
    - Manchester Piccadilly to Stoke-on-Trent (drivable until Stockport or Cheadle Hulme in game)

    Avanti West Coast Class 390:
    - Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston via Crewe (drivable until Wilmslow in game)
    - Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston via Stoke-on-Trent (drivable until Stockport in game)
    - Manchester Piccadilly to Longsight Depot (empty stock moves)

    East Midlands Railway Class 158:
    - Manchester Piccadilly to Nottingham/Norwich (drivable until Stockport in game)

    DB/EWS/Freight:
    - Manchester Piccadilly to Stockport
    - Manchester Piccadilly to Alderley Edge via Styal (avoiding Manchester Airport)

Layering of trains from other routes is unknown at this stage, however the 158 will require you to own the MML route, as well as the 390 will require you to own the WCML South route.

Again, none of this has been confirmed, however it gives you a general idea of what you can expect from this route.

So basically a short commuter route with reused rolling stock. Plus at least 2 $40 dependencies.

Where have we seen that before?

Good to see that the Edinburgh - Glasgow route has had more drivable services added to the Sprinter timetable. The Manchester route is a nice surprise. Already looking forward to driving that Class 158 in its special Leven Branch livery.

Lets hope we get more US content soon, perhaps something in the new year. I would like to see anything related to Metro North, Amtrak, LIRR, or NJT. Croton Harmon along the Hudson line just brought back their open house at the yard after being on hiatus for a few years due to the rebuild of the facility. I think perhaps next year's workshop would be a perfect opportunity to gather reference material for the different types of rolling stock and audio in and around the yard for Metro North, or even a ride on a non revenue run for reference material. I am not getting my hopes up but it is great to see more visits to the US. I look forward to the MBTA route coming soon

Personally I’d like to see anything but that for US content. Feels like we get the same thing every release with US stuff.

I agree. The MBTA route is interesting, but it's time that DTG move away from US commuter routes and get back to freight-centered routes.

Of course I know the chances of that happening are remote, but it's worth stating again.
