I wrote a small bit of what I personally expect and halfway wish for TSW5 (aka. the Dovetail Direct announce next month) and its close future. Perhaps you guys can share yours too in the area of UK and US, as mine is only for DE/AT content. First off, the german route which comes with TSW5 could include either Berlin or Frankfurt. These are 2 cities I'd really love to see at some point in TSW. They could come with a new ICE, being either the ICE T or the ICE 4, where I think the ICE 4 is more likely, though it's also more complex to build. Lets see if DTG has the nerves for that It may also come with another new EMU or locomotive, however I have no wishes/predictions for that one. The DE loco DLC that may come with the Deluxe Edition (if the release bundles are roughly the same as for TSW4) could be the Stadler Eurodual, a electric and diesel powered loco, which however is purely freight only. Unlike the Vectron which can also be used for some passenger services (speaking of the exact variant DTG made, being a PIS-less Railpool quad-panto MS Vectron), this one does not even have door control buttons. If we get an austrian route, either at launch or a bit later, it miiight come with a Railjet which has been highly requested and also acknowledged by Alex from DTG once in a Roadmap FAQ aftermath. I also expect some community projects which have been silenced to be announced in the Direct, among others: Folezz's Cologne-Düsseldorf aswell as his ICE 3 Velaro D and RRX Desiro HC Pilot21's Nuremberg-Ingolstadt 300 km/h highspeed line and the Main-Weser-Bahn (S-Bahn Frankfurt)
I think a few third party releases may have been held up due to the new core release (assuming of course there is one), so I'm expecting to find out what Just Trains and Alan Thomson Sim have up their sleeves. DTG also have a UK route and traction in the can so these will be revealed in their August "Direct" event. Could I just say that "Direct" doesn't really work from a marketing point of view, it's a product reveal podcast not a car insurance product. "Dovetail - 2024's Big Reveal" or "Dovetail Games 2024 Preview Show" would get three times as many clicks on You Tube and greater online reach.
I agree with Berlin finally existing in TSW5. It’s highly requested just like Wales is for the UK. Hopefully DTG have taken note of this and it’s going to happen this time around. I’m also Interested in what the “Golden Feature / Improvement” is going to be for this game. Perhaps much more passenger variety as it has been mentioned in the past. I would say working CCTV on trains but Apparently it’s too much of a framerate issue which is a big shame…
My hope is a bit of a stretch, but I'm hoping TSW5 will have a surprise announcement of new steam content with huge updates to the core steam simulation... as I said, a bit of a stretch! I wonder if JT's route will release alongside TSW5, maybe they've got an agreement with DTG to release it as the deluxe version's route? What better to package with a new game than a JT route? I just found it interesting how the JT route is grouped with what appears to be the TSW5 content on the latest roadmap, which will all be revealed during the Dovetail Direct.
Just curious why we have another TSW5 thread? The header seems to consider it a done deal and yes, while it probably is, there is a small chance it might not be. Without admitting anything, DTG really need to merge all the TSW5 threads - all of which are speculation at this point - into one.
As I've already mentioned in another thread I think one of the routes is going to be a modern section of the WCML...
I think that chance has gone from slight to none. With TSW4 leaving gamepass, it’s almost a guarantee. When TSW3 left gamepass, we got TSW4.
Wah...why isn't there a possibility to ignore all threads containing 'TSW5' in their title in this forum, it's getting really annoying. And yes, don't want it, don't buy it, ask again, when TSW6 or 7 is officially announced. I don't have any expectations in a TSW5 and after this massive overuse of the forums with TSW5 threads, I'm really getting somewhat aggressive on this topic.
Given that 5 items were announced in the last roadmap, my guess is we are getting: - American/Canadian route - UK route - German/Austrian route - 2 trains only for the more expensive edition, similar to the Vectron and Flying Scotsman I have no idea what the routes could be, but the trains will be layering into the new routes and probably something iconic to help increase the sales. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them were the Railjet. And if that were the case, it would be part of the most expensive edition. The other train would most likely be British as I don't see Dovetail doing extra American content.
Tsw 5 will contain a new german german route with a new german loco. The route will be either a commuter (fingers crossed Hamburg Neumünster with Twindexx and br 474) or a doubletrack mainline (The Rollbahn between Hamburg and Bremen( Hannover could be to long in terms of performance)). In both cases dovetail listened to the community and the loco(like vectron) is a well made Br 412 ICE4 with services for every route it drives on irl. We maybe get a remaster/extension for a route too. Most deserved would be HRR. UK and US are the other countries represented(i read many suggestions for WCML so hopefully this will be the one we get).
I do wonder with JT routes being listed under Dovetail Direct - do they normally showcase third party routes during their own showcase? - and if it is the guessed at WCML Cumbria/Morecambe area, the reason they're showcasing it is that the UK route from DTG will also be WCML and TSW5 (or whatever it'll be called) is going to be the WCML edition where it comes to UK content.
Despite all valid reasons and arguments what was mentioned, good question about the "hook". I have a few guesses which would perfectly hook a new Tsw: - Expertline DLCs incl. Fault simulation - Route Merger / Extensions - Timetable Editor with CC capability - Suspension was announced already. I really hope it becomes a standard feature since the fun and immersion is so much higher with a suspension physic. - (multiplayer ) - Freeroam 2.0 (a player can copy a 24h timetable and place static stock or additional services in a free roam menu, which is saved in that copied timetable. This could be a separate menu where you select the route and only the player generated / changed timetables are visible.) - last: Extended guard / conductor feature for all routes
For when it goes on big discount and I finally buy it; CP Canadian Rockies, a steam locomotive comeback in which they actually put in some effort and earn the cost of their dlc’s, and anything that doesn’t involve modern emu’s cloned to ridiculous proportions. Retro US freight would attract me as well. But PLEASE no more tsw5 threads, it really is getting boring now.
What I am looking forward to is another medium length modern UK route using an exciting one handled EMU for the most challenging and engrossing passenger service experience and a few freight runs using the magnificent but sadly underused Class 66 painted in an eye catching pleasant new livery. This is just my personal views and I am sorry if others disagree. I feel the combination outlined is currently hugely under represented and would add greatly to the variety of routes in TSW's library and produce incomparably thrilling gameplay. My wallet is ready on standby to pre-order if (when) the new version of TSW4 is announced.
So, I'm not going to guess the technical stuff that'll be promised and then fully rolled out by TSW6 so instead I'm going to guess on the routes. A medium length UK route set in the current era with a one handle EMU and other stuff layered onto it, but it'll still feel empty because the main traction on the route won't be included and it'll feature back and forth services ending at a station that sees 98% of services actually pass through it without stopping in reality. A German mixed traffic route that'll feature a new Locomotive and EMU/DMU that'll have the most work done on it and be pretty decent...until the safety systems are borked upon release. A US commuter route in New York or California that'll feature a brand new technical item that'll completely screw up the timetable and it'll be unplayable.
I just want to select destinations as stops in free roam. Right now free roam is really more suited if you drive a freight train. I just want to start, then select my "end" destination and select a few stops along the way where passengers actually board the train and so on. Yes, I know you can select "waypoints" but they don't serve the same purpose. Or to be able to select from all the timetable services/routes and drive that service with my own consist. So e.g. Bremen Oldenburg, spawn myself a BR425 and select one of the RB services that the BR110 usually does. Of course not being able to use a freight train for that etc. But I doubt thats gonna come. It'd be way too much work for DTG to implement it properly. This is basically the only feature that I can think of that'd convince me to purchase day 1. Maybe also if theres a route from my area but I doubt I'll see that in TSW ever. (Hint hint: Karlsruhe-Mannheim)
Definetly, on my wishlist is the placing of static stock via the 2D map, also task a placed service along a patch via the 2D map.
Oh yeah. That‘d be great too. So I could place some consists somewhere else where I want to drive up to and couple to.
One thing I am hoping for is if DTG actually gives a reason to buy yet another TSW game. I hope they release more rapid transit routes/subways like the NYC subway. I remain skeptical until we get that announcement in august
Unless things have changed, DTG previously stated the people running NYC Subway have point blank refused any access to the system or trains for research purposes. So not likely to happen. Anyhow, tongue firmly in cheek and following earlier comments in either this or another thread. I reckon TSW5 will be the “Island” edition. So we will get: The Jersey Railway (both of them). Bermuda Railway (yes please). St Kitts Railway Barbados Railway And the deluxe bonus pack will also feature the ManxElectric and Snaefell Mountain Railway from the IOM. Take my £50 now, DTG!
random prediction: Main core route of the 3 routes that usually launch with a new TSW: WCML South: Euston to Rugby Special edition Loco - APT APT would be perfect for the rumoured Just Trains 80s based WCML route and the APT could also be used on WCML South similarly to TSW4 having the Flying Scotsman on the ECML. Yes the APT doesn’t run anymore but it’s a game, who cares?
At least they're not following the usual clickbait and going with "You won't believe these 7 updates" etc etc
Marc, I were already excited about the prospect of a 66 but the mention of a RHTT 66 just blows me away.
Yes, that would be my n°1 request, start a timetable and replace your train with something different (or just the loco)
Not necessarily a prediction, or speculation, but more a request for DTG and this seems to be the most appropriate thread for it. Anyway my request DTG is for the trailer video to have a good song with it, like it did last year with Just Can't Get Enough.
For those of you who are still doubting the existence of TSW 5 there is your proof from Microsoft that TSW 5 will be coming. Taken from the official Gamepass website. Note this same thing happened last year. Why would DTG remove TSW 4 from game pass unless they are releasing a new game. Just thought to put evidence there in case people are curious and yes I did mention this first here on the forums.
True. It’s starting to become a bit obvious now. I don’t think anyone will be shocked to see TSW5 getting announced to us next month. Haha.
Im gonna make a very odd Speculation, but the US offering for TSW5 will NOT be a new route, but a redone or revamped version of an existing route. Why do I randomly think this? TSW 3. The UK route offering was not a new route, but an extended version of SEHS. TSW4. The German Offering was Dresden-Riesa, which again was an updated version of the older route. (Plus the Vectron thrown in) though it was also supported with an Austrian route. TSW5? A US route gets an upgrade? Peninsula Corridor is the most likely candidate for this treatment, as the route can be extended to either Tambien or Gilroy, not to mention the new EMU's and electrification of the line. I don't see any other route getting the same treatment unless DTG somehow pulls a GO License out of thin air and upgrades Oakville.
Interesting. I hadn't thought of that. When they did the LIRR upgrade I assumed they were done with that idea. Either Pen Corridor or Oakville would be candidates for some additional freight movements in addition to commuter rail enhancements. And either would be more of a sale prospect for me than San Bernardino.
Oakville with the elusive GO or VIA license obtained and extended to Toronto and Niagara would be something. Not sure I could take electrified SF Corridor, more EMU “action”, probably one handled.
Good call on the fact that one of the core routes is always an upgrade of the existing one but you forgot that the Sand Patch Grade was included in TSW2 so we are at the end of the cycle and the next such route can therefore be from any country. As for what I would want? At least one route from a new country and a cool pre-release teaser/event. I would obviously love some official Czech content but that's rather unlikely considering that all new countries for TSW have been previously done in TSxx at some point.
German route: whatever, I like German content, so bring it on Austrian route: Wien Hbf - Meidling / Westbahnhof- St.Polten (or Amstetten), with both highspeed corridor via Tullnerfeld/tunnels and one of the regional routes (either old Westbahn via Neulengbach or via Tulln/Tullnerfeld) UK route: anything at least 75 mph with interesting scenery and stopping pattern US route: more NEC maybe a proper French route so we could use both KVB and TVM on the TGV train features - a working Ebula or sth of that kind... better aligning / snapping tools for Livery editor... consist showing in service selection menu... but then, I will most probably buy it if at least 2 of 3 routes are appealing to me
I really hope the new US route is either a revamped/extended Harlem Line to either Southeast or Wassaic or the Hudson and New Haven lines.
Personally, if it has to be an East Coast route I would prefer another branch of the NJR. The New Haven or Hudson lines are not that interesting, based on my experience in TSC. If there were to be a substantial freight component, though, that would change my point of view.
The High Iron route will certainly be freight based. I'm pretty sure of it! Also seen their interest with Santa Fe pack. Feather River would be a dream... Maybe I'd be happy with another new mountain pass! Bring these damn freight convoys on TSW again! US= Freight!
if US freight, pleeeeaseee include some nice thorough tutorial on how to set up those long trains I know there are threads about this on forums, but would be nice to have an actual training module about this (Cajon Pass had a nice tutorial about brakes)
A jeopardy function to add chaos. 0/10 everything runs smoothly and you're the only one who can mess it up. 10/10 don't be surprised if you end up an hour or even two late!
The HIS freight pack and route are certainly many months if not years away. If DTG do not develop any freight, which they seem to have abandoned, we're in for at least one long, cold and lonely winter.
I will repeat it every year until we get it(or until you stop releasing new versions of the game annually). Give us Amtrak long distance train with appropriate home route. For all this years you could find a way to get license from Metra or Tri-Rail.
