Help shape the future of TSW with the Train Sim World Winter Survey 2024!

This survey will aim to give our teams a greater understanding of our players and use data alongside your suggestions to guide us forward. It will cover your thoughts on Train Sim World 5 features, recent Add-ons releases, and then we'll look ahead to get your input for the type of content you want to see in the future!

Our teams are constantly getting involved across the community to gather key feedback and see new suggestions, however, the survey we've shared below will help us tie in those useful opinions to many more statistics, such as preferred platforms, region of the world or time spent playing in a given week. This lets us build an understanding of every type of player who plays Train Sim World, and how we can make the best experience with features you want most.

In the past these surveys have helped us bring Creative tools, Training Center and recently Conductor Mode into Train Sim World, directly from the result of your survey responses in the past, which is why your feedback is so important to us!

Head into the Train Sim World Winter 2024 Survey

Please note, everything asked in our survey above is designed to gauge how players feel about new content, and about our games as a whole - it is worth nothing that the inclusion of content/features in the survey is not confirmation that we are developing these, or if it'll happen in the future - this is why we're asking you first how they feel about it.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to share your thoughts, the survey should take around 30 minutes to complete in total and will close on Sunday 15th December.

As part of this survey, we offered 20 lucky entrants a chance to win a TSW Add-on of their choice. We've now closed this giveaway and will be contacting the winners soon. This was ended earlier than we originally communicated and we apologise, however, we would still welcome your feedback on the survey to help us build the future of Train Sim World. Thank you!

Hello - can I please check which question you're struggling with? Sometimes the question numbers aren't aligned, so if you're able to send a screenshot, or copy the wording from the question, that would be helpful. Thank you!

Hey there, you can only choose three routes in this question, you will have to deselect on of your picks.

I feel like it's unfortunate that there are only detailed follow-up questions on which US locomotive you'd want to see in TSW, but not on which route. To me, the route (and the gameplay it delivers) matters much more than which exact type of locomotive runs on it.

Done. Thanks for taking our feedback. Encouraged by some of the questions surrounding fault/event simulation. No expectation of when it may happen but glad you folks are thinking about it. Went well with the expert 101 imo, so a good first test.

Also happy thanksgiving to my American friends.

Well, then it would still make sense to ask detailed questions on the train and route, rather than just one of them, right?

In the survey about the missing features of the game, the option "brightness settings" made me laugh. DTG, well, this is the common thing in 90% of games. It's not a feature - it's a basics.

Well filled it out. Interesting it asks about US freight and such, so eh.

Also find it funny the survey lists Euro Truck Simulator, but not American Truck simulator on other games you play.....

Do not use this to create TSW6.
Just make what’s already in existence work.

In the survey I highlighted a lot but I mentioned more dynamic events and also more interactivity with pax, alongside longer routes.

They immediately ignore me just because I am from Russia + even the country is not indicated in the list (but even China and Australia are indicated) - why should I, as an ordinary player, suffer? Anyway, I filled out the survey.

Does everyone get asked specifically about US addons in section 3? Earlier I said I was interested in all countries - which I am - but was asked about the USA, which I have the least interest in, know the least about, and have way way less to say about than the UK and Germany.

As someone who often awkwardly moves the external cam to the windscreen in an embarrassing attempt to recreate a proper nose cam view, I completely agree! ;)

Yeah I was also asked specifically about USA content. Though it is their weak spot, I would've loved to implement my thoughts about UK or German content. Though me being an American myself, I surprisingly know more about the UK rail scene and am more interested in them versus US.

Exactly this right! I do this every single time i play TSW, so to possibly have this as a selectable option without having to manually do it every time would be a game changer for me!

I’m guessing that only the US was in there because it’s the only one that needs a reorientation. UK and Germany (especially with JT and TSG respectively) are doing fine. But with freight being (almost) out of the picture and a very limited selection of commuter operators to choose from, I reckon DTG need input on how the US can go on to be represented in TSW. I was just happy that I could spent an entire section talking about old US electrics like the GG1 and the Milwaukee Road.

It's only after finishing surveys that other topics come to mind - I wish I'd added the point "clean up the naming of things" to the list. It's not gamebreaking by any means but annoys me every time I open the "Train Depot" in the menu which says "A-Z", and see "BR101 DB", "BR 111 DB", or "DB BR 628" in the wrong order because the logic of their naming is different. And as an example for British stuff, "Class 52" should be before "Class 395", though I get how this sorting happens.

There seems to be a bug in the survey at question 41 for the potential future core features. When I select for example 10 on the first feature, and then select 10 on any of the next ones, the mark for 10 for the first feature ticks off (vice versa as well). So it acts as kind of a vote toggle between the features, which it shouldn't I think and kind of distorts the votes (untoggles a previous made vote as well).

I can't rate more than 1 feature by the same number of appealing, and only can rate them like in order like down from 10-4.

Is this intentional? But wouldn't have a priority order of the features would have been better in the first place?

Would have liked to give a few features the same amount of appeal.

    Hey there,

I currently don't have access to that question in particular, but some of the questions ask you to rank all entries, instead of giving each of them a value. It sounds like that is the case for you here.

    All the best,
    Jan

Hi Jan, thanks for the quick reply. A quick picture of the question and possibilities.

I think the intention of the question is that each feature shall be ranked by values though instead of ranking the entries.

With the problem explained above, I only can mark one feature with a 10, one feature with a 9, one feature with a 8 and so forth, and thus implicitly can rank the features only per ranking in relation to them all, but not individually.

Thanks, Robert - I think original intention was to put them in a ranking system, but somewhere this got lost in the ether. I'd suggest ranking each out of 10 based on how you feel about them, but ensure that no one game mode has the same 'number', as a workaround. Good spot!

You get asked that if you say you're interested in US content in the question before. It's something we'd like to focus on for this specific survey as we get a lot of feedback from US players and would like to make sure we can understand specifically where we could improve that experience.

(Doesn't mean we're not focusing on other countries, of course, and there are many, many other questions. When you mention your country, it means we can break down feedback by that as well, so we can see how 'German' players feel about the new content suggestions, and split it out.

I've filled out the survey, honestly.

From the intonation of the questions I got the definite impression not to expect too much from DTG's future trains and routes at the imagined level of prototype fidelity and realism.

I've voted against more gaming elements, I'd rather have more realism in actual simulation of operations, including dispatching.

Why there is 2 LIRR in the pool?
Ah, I get it. People won't figure out which LIRR is which and will vote for the old version. And DTG are like: oh, people like a route without AI and with a buggy signaling system - we can do that, we know how to do that!

I sort of did this unintentionally as I was more interested in some suggestions more than others but I'm hoping they are all registered as I also had to keep going back to make sure they were all clicked.

I think with any career mode I'd prefer it to keep a bit of realism rather than some kind of tycoon mobile game where you 'upgrade' your train with rocket boosters or something.

For example drivers sometimes start out doing yard work before progressing to running main line services.

Similarly I saw an advert for Eurostar drivers where you had to have a minimum of 3 years driving experience whereas there are UK TOCs who will take on trainees with no previous experience (if you get through all the recruitment tests/interviews).

So an example of applying this in TSW could be on a route like SEHS you start out driving 465s and then based on your driving performance you can progress up to driving a Class 395 or maybe to borrow the Eurostar example the TGV services (if you have that layer).

Platform/train announcements would definitely be a great missing piece in improving immersion though.

Done though a few were a bit of a head scratcher particularly having to rate new features, down from 10 to 4.

Also notable there was no specific reference to steam traction getting a possible reprieve, just didn't feature at all. As testified by new discussions in the last couple of days there are still many of us who would like to see DTG "man up" and have another go.

Glad I was not the only one to mention the Milwaukee Road. I think the Mid- and Northwestern regions needs to be represented in TSW so seeing that company, especially the electric trains, would be great.

I chucked in the MPKS from St Louis across to Kansas via both the Sedalia and River Subs. The BN Funnel from Spokane to Sandpoint and the D&RGW west out of Denver.

Indeed that's as what I came here to mention. But if they added it in there they'd have to at least acknowledge it which they seem to be allergic too unfortunately.

I was a little disappointed by the narrower viewpoints of the survey as I feel like previous years have been much more open to suggestions on types of content like historical, Steam, modern etc. I felt like they could've branched out a little more and been a little more open personally. :)

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall there being one rather weird mention of steam: When ranking what operations interest you on US routes (or similar), I think one option was vintage/steam routes. I thought that odd given that I doubt DTG would even consider picking up US steam after leaving UK steam for the virtual torch. Still as close to a mention of steam as we've gotten recently though.
