This week we're celebrating 15 Years of Train Simulator! With a music launch, free DLC giveaway, Anniversary sale, RFTV stream and more. Read More : Train Simulator 15th Anniversary! (dovetailgames.com)
Great to see you releasing your best route for free. Thanks to Paul Jackson (gone fishing? ) - who knows what would have happened to RailSimulator if he hadn't bought it from Kuju and made it "RailWorks / Train Simulator". He did the right thing at exactly the right time. A great businessman, giving us the TS universe and a lot of people jobs. Thanks for the amount of content, the biggest DLC library on Steam. And the community enhancing a lot of it, doing stuff that wouldn't be economical for you - but you gave us the base. It's a good example of how a developer and the community can create an immortal and versatile sim, with communities all over the globe. Thanks to TrainSim-Steve and team for constantly improving the core - which of course has its limits as compatibility is the primary constraint - and making sure we can play it in 15 years time still. And thanks for 8,000 hours of fun so far, DTG! All the investment has surely paid off for me!
The new reorchestrated version of the music is nice but doesn't sound much like the original... I'm still waiting for the day the original TS2014 and 2015 menu music is available to buy on iTunes. I'd better get to work downloading TS2015 to back up the menu music from that, at least that's in WAV. The Chatham Main Line to Dover is not a bad choice for a free route, although weirdly the original Chatham Main Line has been free a few weeks ago for seemingly no reason. I expect the reason it's free is because it doesn't have a reason to exist anymore, since everything in it is included in the other two Chatham Main Line versions. I still find it weird though that the new version to Dover and Ramsgate doesn't include the Medway Valley Line, meaning it can't be the definitive version of the route in TS, but I digress. The routes on sale are a very strange bunch... Cajon Pass and the Isle of Wight are okay routes but very dated. Munich Garmisch is a bit of a nothing burger. Horseshoe Curve, while an important route in the development of TS as a game (as far as I'm aware it was the first route in the game with superelevation), it has both those problems, being an old route that has one very iconic location and lots of very un-iconic bits surrounding it. Not worth £7.50 really, especially since a few years ago it was £3.74. Woodhead is another strange choice. It's dated and is nowhere near as good as the newer BR Blue version. The discounted Explorer Collection routes are a slightly less strange selection, although it's worth noting that Peninsula Corridor and the LGV route are not the extended versions. It's worth noting that LGV is itself in the current version of TS as a base route, so having the extension discounted for new players would have been a good idea - then again, there is no real excuse for Riesa to Dresden and Marseille to Avignon in the TSC24 bundle to not be the extended versions... The locos are possibly the worst choices imaginable. The newest train there was released eight years ago, and none of them are particularly high quality. The SD40 and Class 67 are bare minimum packs with little content and very few features. The others are slightly more palatable, but none of them are really worth taking a second look at. The BR86 is an okay DLC, but is included with the Wutachtalbahn, which would have made much more sense as one of the discounted routes meant to highlight TS' achievements than Cajon Pass of all things... Finally, the 'big discounts' section includes the extension for the Peninsula Corridor strangely, plus the Hamburg S1 (not a bad choice) and the Cross City Line (ditto). Overall it does seem a bit insulting that for the anniversary we're getting generally unimpressive discount on a strange selection of routes and trains, when we got massive discounts for the 10th anniversary, which I remember having less fanfare about it...
H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y A Job Very Well Done DTG ! And thank you very much for the great discounts !
Nice that TSC is still going strong. I first bought Railworks 3 back in 2009 to pass the time whilst working away from home. It’s the only game that’s been a constant on my PC since. Now I have all sorts of enhancements and expansions and I still don’t think there another train simulator to beat it. The variety and length of routes + all the different rolling stock makes it so much more immersive to me. Some of the 3rd party routes / expansions coming out this year are the best ever in my opinion. So happy 15th birthday TSC. Didn’t expect you to still be here, but glad that you are. Hopefully you’ll still be going strong when I retire in a few years and I can finally get to play everything I own!
Happy birthday TS Still the only game i ever play. And i think it’s because of the creativity you can put into it.
Well done to all involved over the last 15 years. I've spent way too much time and money on it in that time, but that's a testament to its realism, expandibility and fun.
Needless insult aside, the 'event' here is nowhere near as good as the one we got five years ago. Not only are the discounts not that good, they only apply to a generally LOVE selection of DLC, whereas the 2019 sale was on pretty much everything, with some getting DLC getting their lowest ever prices at the time. So yes, thank you for the game Dovetail/Kuju/EA, but not for the event.
It's a bold strategy to reply to a complaint about an insulting comment with one that is even more insulting.
Incredible video DTG; made me sort of emotional I must admit remembering the many years I have been playing this game and getting older overtime with it! As a player since TS2014; may TSC long may it live on!
Even if it isn't it will be possible to download the file (best to buy it on iTunes for the best quality), encode it as WAV with Audacity or an equivalent, then use the DAV converter tool to use it in-game.
Just a reminder, I have remade the original Rail Simulator demo scenario accurately - be sure to turn off Dynamic Lights to switch to the old Kuju renderer (distant fog fading to white instead of black). https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2720906241
I've posted the original free roam scenarios from Rail Simulator. https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197970819566/myworkshopfiles/?appid=24010
15 years of TS, 15 years of lot of payware and freeware routes. http://u.osmfr.org/m/940885/ And I hope it will go on further 15 years and beyond
Rail-Sim.de forums are a precious archive, starting on Oct 6th, 2007. I have found the DTG birthday message from Paul Jackson, after RSDL which was a mix of former Kuju employees and Paul Jackson's company, that already did the Mk1 and Mk2 patches for KRS, was dissolved and RailSimulator.com (later using the trading name "Dovetail Games") was founded. RailSimulator became RailWorks. April 9th, 2009 Paul Jackson announces Railsimulator.com It is my great pleasure to announce the formation of RailSimulator.com and my appointment as CEO. This isn’t just a change of name. RailSimulator.com is a new company independently financed to own, develop and publish the RailSimulator technology. Both myself, new investors and the dev-team are committed and excited by the prospects and vision we have for the new company. I’ll have more to say about this in the coming weeks including introductions to some new members of the team. I myself am a lifelong Railfan and have spent almost all my professional life building and running computer game companies. So as you can imagine being asked to become CEO of RailSimulator.com is a dream come true for me. Finally after 20 year’s in the business I get to combine work and play! I am keen to make it clear that RailSimulator.com is in this for the long-haul, this product exists for the community and many of the initiatives myself and the team will be bringing in will be focussed on expanding the features and opportunities of RailWorks users. Having introduced myself, I would like to wish you all a happy Easter, you will be hearing regularly from me from now on! Paul Jackson Biog Paul Jackson has been a Videogames Publisher since 1988.
