The latest update on Train Simulator development from Senior Producer, Steve Dark, as we look ahead to Phase 2. Read More : https://live.dovetailgames.com/live...ain-simulator-classic-developer-update-part-3
With the Silverlining update, I hope we can at last have the sun in the correct region of the sky. In the Southern Hemisphere it renders in the south (i.e. at the pole) not the north (the equator). With discussion with other Devs, it seems in the Northern Hemisphere it is also incorrect, again rendering at the pole (this time North) not the equator. Its a minor bug, but it plays havoc with the correct 'feel' of a route/region.
It would be great with a roadmap of bugs that you are planning to (try) to fix. Certainly my bugbear (the page two of ai spawnpoints unavailable) is a make or break for my future as a costumer of yours. And i can wait, no sweat. But i can only wait if i know that it’s actually going to be fixed. Otherwise i’ll call it quits, since my very raison d’entre in TSC is the creation of advanced quick drives. As it stands now, making any is often impossible.
Don´t care for Silverlining because I use all the AP weather packs like most advanced users. Guess it´s good news for casual gamers though.... the explanation on why directX12 rather makes things worse than better, makes sense to me. Once again, multi-core threading. I just said it yesterday... I´m shocked at how bad my brand new laptop is handling TSC (it handles any other game with ease). I think the multi threading thing has to be top priority at this point and seems to be the only real solution to bring substantial performance improvements to TS Classic.
Long time player, but never got too involved in the technical side! What exactly is silverlining and what does it do? Similarly when you mention content library do you mean how the menu system works or the underlying file and folder structure? Anyway It's good see work being done to give the game a future, even if I don't understand some of the technical stuff!
If I know correctly, Silverlining is the 3D clouds and fog engine. It has its ups but I'm not particularly happy with it. 1) Whenever pausing the game, the weather time keeps moving. Positioning (or getting away from) snowflakes and raindrop clusters is certainly a photographing edge case, but together with the next point, it means that refining pictures is impossible due to losing sunlight. 2) It blocks sunlight randomly, which is its purpose I guess, but it is quite aggressive and intensive, so it's only possible to screenshot about 10-20% of each scenario (due to combination with above). +1) It also doesn't look particularly great. This depends on a myriad of additional details. I just happen to have some screenshots from running and shooting the Soldier Summit scenarios in both 2016 and these weeks, and while many things have been improved - sunlight is yellow, sky is blue and clouds are darker - it also ended up like random smoke patches in the sky. +2) Due to how perspective works, real life is the opposite of SL. The plugin seems to be designed for small scale games (like Skyrim) where your view is limited by hills and human speed - thus it renders plenty of clouds above the player. Whereas in reality, clouds tend to be on the horizon, mostly - which is how 2D clouds look (also forced by the skybox quirks). For reference, adding two thumbnails: As you can see it's not tragic individually, but it adds up into a "personal storm cloud" effect, also being a bit annoying. Summary: cloud distance and color could use a bit of a review, plus an easy access option to not block the sun at all.
Rather condescending. I have 10K hours in on TS2014-TSC, I build my own routes, repaint engines and stock. I do not consider myself to be a "casual gamer" but I choose not to use AP weather packs like many others advanced or otherwise.
Hahahaha, you will get todays grumpy award. Dang, that is not nice. brand new toy and disappointed. What are the basic specs of this laptop ? I also go a new one, specs in my sig, and it handles TSC very well (according to my standards)
i hope the multithreading and also moving task to gpu side of the game can work. that be amazing. sundog seem to release sliverlineing sdk that improving performances and looking good from reading on there blog. maybe the next sliverlineing plugin update will remove that color blinding effect. i thought we where on current version of sliverlineing 3d cloud version it look amazing. question what about memory version like ddr4 or ddr5, i guess it doesn't matter if the game using ddr3 memory there no changes if you use ddr4 or ddr5, memory is memory.
Well, thanks for beeing so kind today... 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13700HX, 32,0 GB Ram, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 GPU
Is there a plan to fix the remaining crashes with, for example, the VNHRR content? I'm worried that "Now that our latest core is in your hands, and we have taken care of the most critical problems, we can begin to move forward with the next phase of work" means the devs aren't concerned about these remaining issues.
SilverLining is a plugin which we use to generate the dynamic lighting, 3D skies and Clouds. You can find out more information on SilverLining here. With regard to the content library, we mean how the software works under the hood to collate and present the information to you in the menu system. As mentioned in the article, we're still continuing with bug fixes as we go and there are several things we're still investigating. They still remain a going concern for us until we can find a resolution for them. Best, Steve
I put in a support request regarding the same spawn point problem a few days ago and got a standard reply asking for video proof that it was happening, so I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. Hopefully the 32 bit option will remain available as a work around for a wee while longer.
Video proof. HERE: Come on DTG Jamie. You’ve acknowledged this bug, yet your support STILL ask for proof, as if we users are crazy. Will you please talk to the support people?
This problem drive me crazy too - makes so many routes useless in Quickdrive. It was reported over 2 years ago so hopefully its getting towards the top of the fix list.
It's not about needing proof, it's about showing us what's going on so we can attempt to replicate the issue. Half the battle we face is often when we follow steps given, we don't see the issue you're seeing. That is likely because we're not following the exact same steps you're taking - hence the video. Descriptions and even step-by-step instructions are not always productive in helping trace an issue of this nature. Indeed it was prioritised but when we looked at it, we couldn't replicate the issue so we need people to share videos and even their scenarios with us so we can see what is going on. Help us so we can help you - it's as simple as that Best, Steve
Well the developer team has fixed it now. Thanks for that. But since you replied, i will repeat this; If it’s a bug known to you, perhaps don’t have support treat people like it doesn’t excist. I understand tracking bugs down is hard. But i will say that i’ve been saying for years that it was a 32bit memory issue. And in a forum post before the last update, one of the dtg team wrote that you have adressed a lot of things that were in reality only capable of 32 bits of memory. And now the bug is fixed. So if i was right, i pointed you in the right direction long ago. You can’t say that wasn’t helpfull. What i’ve been saying is that this bug happened in the 64 bit version at exactly the point where the 32 bit version would no longer open the scenario, but crash with an OOM error. How much more helpful can the end user be? But every attempt to explain it to the team has gone unanswered untill recently. And you have to appreciate that that causes frustration. Trying to be helpful, giving you pointers, but being ignored. BUT ANYWAY, it’s fixed now and i am very happy that it is. So a big thanks from me.
Thanks Kim, that's a really good outline and feedback so will certainly pass on the message. Feedback like this helps us improve and no-one should be out there thinking we're not taking you seriously or at your word - the lifeblood of our business is you, all of you. If anyone feels their support ticket is not being taken seriously, please let us know. Best, Steve
Steve, the bug was fixed in the latest update I forbid you to touch that piece of code ever again, now that it’s working!!!
I do wonder if the main menu will get a revamp at some point. Lately, I have noticed when navigation between career scenarios and standard scenarios, the menu would freeze causing me to restart Train Simulator
Yes this has happened often in, Career Scenarios, Can’t change routes until you restart TSC. Very annoying and frustrating.
