Train Simulator Classic is a very demanding game, even on modern PCs. Frame generation technologies like AMD's FSR3 and Nvidia's DLSS3 could help a lot with this, by generating additional frames between the ones that are rendered by the GPU. This would boost performance and make the game smoother and more enjoyable to play which otherwise has unplayable frame rates in most DLCs. I think frame generation would be a great addition to Train Simulator Classic, especially since it's becoming increasingly popular in other games. It would allow players to get a better experience.
That might sound good but Train Simulator Classic is based on a game released in 2010 - Railworks. I doubt the Game Engine would be up to working with the requirements of DLSS 3. And I know my computer is not up to a GeForce RTX 40 series card and neither is my wallet
OP, what current frame rates are you getting? I think most people would regard render stuttering between terrain tile data loads a bigger problem, which graphics technology won't help with.
Quite amazing to think that in 4 years we will be playing a 20 years old game. Not many games that has had this longevity.
Actually, it's not, it's just terribly optimised and doesn't use all the hardware available to it. It doesn't use all it's available ram, barely touches my GPU and barely makes my CPU sweat, this is an optimisation problem and fixing that would be a higher priority than adding frame gen.
I did some experimentation. I have a stress test scenario for TS, which I compared to the most modern game I have on my PC. For context, the first column is CPU, the second is RAM usage, and the last one is the GPU. TS is using more RAM but is using much less of the CPU than NFS Unbound, and it's the same story with the GPU. However, it is worth noting that TS is very different on a technical level than pretty much every modern game. No pre-compiled shaders, virtually no advance visual effects, and a very, very different method of loading content. If TS development was to continue, I could see some room to use more system resources, but I think in your case you may want to have another look at your computer's settings. Is your graphics card set to high performance mode?
