    March's 'Development Insights':

I'm going to do two monthly development insights (into one scenario and one livery) I release within the current month (e.g. March for this one) whether they have released or not to explain what goes on behind-the-scenes ;).

    This Month's Case Studies: (TG08) Connex Southeastern (465) + (TG08) 3Y81 XHT-MBR (800)

We chat to the OP of this thread, TrainGeek08, to firstly talk about the livery (below) '(TG08) Connex Southeastern (465)', that releases tomorrow.

The amount of liveries you are creating is lacking in comparison to scenarios recently. Why is this?

TrainGeek08: "You may think it is because I'm a scenario guy, but that isn't necessarily true. It comes down to how I do my roadmap picks. I let a wheel decide whether a certain route gets a livery made for a train from that route, or a scenario created for that route. It is something I have changed in the 2027 Roadmap cycle, where 5 routes get liveries and the other 5 routes picked get scenarios. Then I take 5 or 6 (routes) to put on the Roadmap, also considering to include an equal amount of liveries and scenarios."

Did you encounter any challenges whilst making this livery?
TG08: "Yes I did. I wanted to do branding, but the Connex logo was very tricky to replicate because of the angles involved. I did give it a go, but it wasn't going to look 100%, or at least very close. Also, I struggled with the fade, and that is visible on the train. I tried my best, so I hope that it does the trick."

Following on from the above question, does those challenges throw you off making a livery on the 465 in the future?
TG08: "It depends on what livery it is that I am making. The Connex livery is a unique livery to make, and it isn't going to throw me off from making a Southeastern liveried 465 with orange doors though, does it?"

How long did you take to make this livery?
TG08: "It took me 45 minutes to make this livery. As I said earlier, it could've been longer had I did the branding. Possibly just ticking over the 1 hour mark."

Do you think it will do well on CC when it releases tomorrow?

TG08: "If you want the honest answer, then I think it won't do well. The trend of my mods recently has meant that it gains lower numbers than earlier in February. However, I could be proven wrong..."

Was 465908 an inspiration for this livery to be created?

TG08: "Partially. There is a part of me that wanted to create a Connex livery because of 465908, but part of me was wanting to make it to create nostalgia for anyone who lives/lived in the South East when that livery was around."

We then ask TrainGeek08 to discuss the scenario (below) '(TG08) 3Y81 XHT-MBR (800)', that will release next week.

How have you managed to get a 800 in TSW?

TrainGeek08: "Through a formation on Creators Club made by Shiiba. It is an 801/1 with diesel engines on each coach, to make a 'pretend' 800/2. So thanks to them for making that formation for use in this scenario!"

What is your take on doing modern-day scenarios on backdated routes?
TG08: "I think that although I do it regularly, it just doesn't work on routes i.e. Tees Valley Line. It can work on WCML Over Shap for instance, but that's because nothing has hardly changed since the 1980s (other than line speeds etc.). I think backdated scenarios on modern-day routes work better."

How long does the scenario play for?

TG08: "The scenario plays for 25 minutes overall. Not too bad for a scenario length at all."

Do you feel that you have underlooked Tees Valley Line (in terms of mods produced) over the years?
TG08: "No not really. I feel I have done a lot on Tees Valley over the years, both scenarios of the era, and of modern-day workings. If there is a route I have underlooked over the years, you are better off saying Northern Trans-Pennine if I'm honest... Every time it comes up, the wheel selects a livery, and not a scenario."

What is the backstory to this scenario?

TG08: "The story to this scenario is that the Durham Coast Line is closed for engineering work, and LNER normally run their ECS move via that route. So, it has to divert via Darlington and Eaglescliffe to get to Middlesbrough."

Will you create a follow-up scenario where you drive 1Y81 from Middlesbrough to Thornaby?

TG08: "Probably not. It'll take 5 minutes. That's all I have to say."

Thanks to TrainGeek08 for taking the time to answer those burning questions for us :).

    Conclusion:
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this one, put your thoughts below as ever . From me, TrainGeek08, I'll see you soon for another CC release announcement, enjoy the rest of your day and goodbye ;).
