In Summer 1997 (I was about 10 years old) I went to England on Holyday with my family once. Because it was such a long time ago, so I can't remember all details of that journey any more. I only can remember, that we rode by train from Gatwick Airport to London, then somehow by train to Bristol, where we got a rented car and went to Worcester. Whilst playing BML on TSW2/3 I started trying remember on which trains we rode, but I simply can't... So my question is: Which train types were there on BML around 1997? Who operated them? Thank you in advance!
The Gatwick Express would be operated by Class 73 electro diesel locomotives hauling Mark 2 coaching stock and a driving luggage van, known as Class 488 and Class 489. Connex South Central operated the whole length of the line using Class 421 and Class 423 EMU's. Closer to London you would see Class 455 and 456 EMU's and Class 205 or 207 DEMUs. Thameslink operated Class 319 EMU's from Brighton to London Bridge and on towards Bedford.
Thank you! I'll check what these are, maybe it triggers some memories, but I don't have much hope on that.
I just found this video on Youtube of Gatwick airport station in 1996 so about 6 months earlier than your visit, so this may rejog some memories:
