Just thought I’d ponder this here in case anyone has any gen. Official N3V Trainz forums have been offline “undergoing maintenance” since Wednesday. The DLS still seems to be working but got to wonder what’s going on. I know Trainz is a competitor programme (well not really, compared to what TSC and TSW offer) but there are some of us who enjoy dabbling in Surveyor to build model railways and short routes. Would be a shame if N3V folded.
It’s still down at the time I’m writing this. Frankly I’ve been a huge fan of Trainz series since the first one I got when I was a child which was Trainz UTC. After that I got Trainz 2004, 2006 etc until Trainz 2019 as I stopped here because since T:ANE, the series went downhill (especially Trainz 2022). There’s barely new improvements, graphics looks off and too artificial sometimes and the biggest issue is how bad the game is optimized, I spend hours to convert broken assets between each new Trainz and honestly I’m gonna stop my subscription to the DLS as it’s quite often down. I think they’ll give us free days as compensation of all these days of maintenance which is more than a week now… EDIT: DLS barely work fine during this maintenance and I have quite a good internet speed (1Gb/s), sometimes download speed is the same as if I don’t have a DLS subscription so why paying then…
You would think if there was nothing of concern going on, the message would be updated. It would be a shame if N3V had gone as I do enjoy the layout building in Trainz, much easier than MSTS, TSC or DRS but in terms of the driving experience Trainz has never really been a serious contender. And the whole tiered subscription model never made sense to me. Have a solid core product which encourages people to buy DLC, both reasonably priced not the Netflix style arrangement. I waited for the outright purchase version of Trainz to hit £31 in a sale on Steam which was still way overpriced, but no way I was handing over £55 for what is a slightly reworked TRS19 - with all the advancements held back and only offered to the subscribers.
It would be a shame too for me as the main reason why I adore Trainz is its surveyor which is the best from every other competitors, many options available, easy to build with tons of tools. I’m afraid it’ll be down for longer, if my memory is correct the same thing happened in 2006 but it was for a month. I quite regret sometimes to pay for a FCT as download speed can be pretty the same as if I haven’t paid for it. I grabbed TRS2019 on sale for 5€ otherwise it’s not worth its price because trains physics are really unrealistic.
Thanks, spotted that earlier. It doesn’t look that much improved though and it seems from what others are posting much of the functionality is not enabled!
Sorry for the late reply. Yeah it’s not entering functional it feels like a beta version of the forum, they tried to implement the same system as here with the rewards. I think the main change was the implementation of a mobile version which is better to use on phone/tablet.
Well they came back a while ago but look half strung together. Plus no way I’m paying £55 for another version of TRS22 with “PE” on the end of it.
