Is there any chance that DTG could work on the trees next? They are hideous. Just been on a run on the Maintelbahn and it’s autumn. The trees are golden but they are constantly morphing with shadows, they are 2d until about 500 yards away when they start to form. It’s terribly distracting. It’s just another immersion breaker along with shadows that really needs to be dealt with.
Thank you! I wanted to create a thread about this topic, too. Waiting for my shift to finish so I can upload my demo video. Driving in autumn (or summer) is terrible, the scenery incedible "noisy" - fun fact: I haven't had this issue with TSW4 (PC, engine.ini) and can't get rid of it in TSW5, yet
They seem to have a real issue with handling LOD. It's not only that you see more detail (and shadows) popping in close by, the shape of the trees seem to change too. I have never seen anything like the TSW trees in any other game. Certainly, every other game has been handling LOD transitions brilliantly for a heck of a long time now, so I don't know why the skillset is so far behind (it isn't an engine issue, anyway). Edit: Should also say it isn't just an Xbox issue, either.
I’ve always hated the way that vegetation just sort of grows as you pass by it. It’s weird though because it doesn’t happen on every route.
I noticed in autumn the tree's are summer trees at a distance then change into autumn tree's as I got closer to them. On PC you can change the lod and take a massive hit on performance! You can get them looking brilliant if you don't mind dipping down to 15fps occasionally.
I presume that's because each route is built as a separate entity; it isn't a core thing that can be changed then has a global effect. I have noticed an improvement on certain newer routes and tree assets.
But they use the same trees. They don't have a vast library of different trees. So surely it should be easier to keep the LODS down if they are only using a few tree models.
