I would like to suggest the scenic Passau-Regensburg railroad which runs alongside the River Danube for a length of about 120 km in Bavaria, a key link between Germany and Austria, and a gateway to other southeast European countries. It is a double-track line, fully electrified and is one of the most important in southern Germany.

Passau is the border station with Austria and most if not all trains do stop here. From commuter traffic via ICE and Nightjet trains to all kinds of freight, there are pretty all kinds of traffic traversing these tracks making for endless scenario possibilities.

Passau station was built in 1860 in classic styles, has eight platforms and is pretty much situated next to the river Danube itself, 303 meters above sea level. Since 1951, the station has been used jointly between DB and ÖBB.

As we head northwest, the first large station we encounter is Plattling just over 50 km from Passau. Plattling sees a lot of regional traffic as well as ICE trains to Frankfurt and Vienna and numerous goods trains as well. Plattling station is situated 323 meters above sea level.

The next major stop is Straubing (326 meters above sea level), a further 25 km ride from Plattling. The station opened in 1859 and these days it sees over 3600 passengers daily, with over 90 trains.

After a further 45 km journey, we finally reach Regensburg, a station we already know from the excellent Nürnberg-Regensburg route.

What I am suggesting is the possibility to combine the two routes, making for an incredible, 200+ km long German line from Passau all the way to Nürnberg via Regensburg.

Since the line to be modelled is only 119 km long it should fit nicely into Dovetail's route length envelope. As an important international railroad, everyone can surely find something to enjoy about this spectacular stretch of line, from the beautiful landscape with the River Danube flowing nearby and all the charming Bavarian towns that we encounter en route. The route starts and ends at proper "big" stations, not in the middle of nowhere like is the case with some routes. Therefore, realistic crew change point can be utilized when writing scenarios.

When combined with the existing Nürnberg-Regensburg route, we get a 220 km long mega-railroad with endless scenario opportunities. Imagine running the ÖBB Nightjet that travels from Vienna to Hamburg, calling at Passau at 23:22 then at Regensburg at 0:23 and then Nürnberg at 1:30, before continuing towards Hamburg. This could be simulated in both directions, among many other real-world services such as ICE high-speed trains.

The route could perhaps come with an ÖBB Nightjet wagon pack (seven different coaches, most of them being some sort of sleeping or couchette cars) and the DB BR 101 locomotive or an ÖBB Nightjet Taurus as Nightjet services tend to use their own ES64U Taurus locomotives, painted to their Nightjet livery. Sleeping cars and night trains, in general, are not well represented anyway, so this could be a great occasion to introduce Europe's highest quality sleeper service nowadays, the Nightjet. Also, Coradia's Continental EMU is a common sight in the region, operating most of the regional services.

I am hoping that Dovetail Games will take this into consideration and soon we can travel from the German-Austrian border town of Passau all the way to Regensburg, or even to as far as Nürnberg.
