Trying to dust off TSC to do bit of route building (lost interest in Trainz with their obsessive subscription model and DRS is useless without some sort of real world DEM and map import). However need to tame performance on the laptop so looking to run at 720p but have Lossless Scaling push up to 1080p. However, despite fiddling with LS settings all I've succeeded in doing is get TSC running at the chosen resolution in a black box! So if anyone could suggest or share some settings for LS to generate a full screen image 720p to 1080p would be much appreciated. Also as an aside, has anyone found their desktop icons will no longer start TSC, even if Steam is running? Only way I can start the program is from within Steam itself.

I always start Steam first before starting the game - I get a pop-up saying Log in to Steam it I do it the other way, And I have ver 72.3 and ver 77.6b and they both start from their desktop short cuts.
I have always done that Pete, particularly when using the 64 bit version but now neither the 32 or 64 bit icons, which I did recreate fresh from Steam. work. Not the end of the world. just wondered if others had the same oddity. Edit: I got Lossless Scaling working but it didn't look very nice and does not appear to improve performance. Probably better just using 720p as is.
I only use the frame generation, since the quality of upscaling isn't the best. Run TSC in window or borderless mode Set the scale you want to upscale from in TSC settings Lossless Scaling Select a type, try LS1 or FSR Set mode to Custom, play with the Factor, 1.1 up to 2. 1 is no upscaling. Use "Performance" for older hardware, but this can lower the quality. For frame generation I use LSFG 3.1, mode fixed, multiplier set to 2 and flow scale 50. But you might want to use 100 on older harware. Lock FPS in TSC, I recommend 30 fps for an output on 60 fps with Lossless (multiplier set to 2). This really helps to lower the load on GPU. https://sageinfinity.github.io/docs/Guides/start
I had real trouble getting this to work but after a lengthy discussion with Copilot I managed to get it working by capping TSC frame rates in Riva Tuner rather than the nVidia control panel and also capping Lossless in the Riva Tuner as well but just to the limit I had in nVidia for the global cap. So I had Lossless capped at 98fps in Riva and TSC capped at 46 in Riva and all of a sudden it worked and it worked fantastic as well but I noticed it doesnt seem to play nicely with Third Rails map program, for some reason it started to seemingly hang and then all of a sudden update then hang then update and so on, everytime this happened it would cause a stutter or two in TSC, this is what bought it to my attention. Is anyone else who is using Lossless using Third Rails as well and if so have you noticed any issues with it?
cheers for that knuckle, its almost like it is interrupting Thirdrails talking to the raildriver.dll. Ill keep having a play and see if I can work it out. I dont know why I needed to do the Riva stuff either, it just has never worked out of the box for me, the program works well at what it does it just doesnt play nicely on my system for whatever reason. Prior to the Riva stuff sometimes the left hand fps counter would be higher than the righthand one, it just wouldnt ever sync.
I can't use Lossless Scaling with Thirdrails running as it results in massive stuttering. The Lossless Scaling docs mention that you can't have overlays running and I think that is the problem.
Yeah I think that was my problem as well, although some overlays like Riva seem to work fine, also WGC is a lot more forgiving with overlays as well. I play normally at 2 x 3 ssaa but thought I might get a reliable 3 x 3 SSAA which I did but then couldnt use some overlays like the one from Cobras software so I have decided to stick with what I have, it really does run quite nice at 2 x 3 SSAA with GSync so not sure why I started messing with it
Yeah, Lossless Scaling really doesn’t get along with overlays like ThirdRail’s HUD panels, just adds stutters and makes things worse. If you’ve got a second monitor, tossing the panels over there fixes it. For the radar, you can, of course, use the radar site on another device instead. What would be nice though… a little remote control website to execute timetables without cluttering the game UI. Definitely something to keep on the radar
I recently found out about this little program and thought I would give it a try, So far am pretty impressed. I have limited TS to 30FPS via the limit command and then set the Frame Generation to as follows, Type LSFG 3.1 Mode Fixed Multiplier 2 Flowscale 55 Peformance off. I tried it out on a scenario for Wessex Mainline and it has made a major improvement. I run at 1080P with a RTX 2080, do people use the scaling option aswell ?as I have not tried that one out yet.
