I should imagine that the low refresh rates of such an old single thread intensive game running on DX9 would be a horrible vomit inducing experience. Best stick with a monitor imo.
I saw TS being demonstrated with an Oculus headset in 2015. I didn't actually try it but it's clearly possible- or used to be. The feed for the headset was showing on a monitor and looked OK. This was at Locomotion in Shildon where Dovetail was represented by Derek Siddle demonstrating the newest route The Weardale and Teesdale Network in the '60s and giving away copies so that was me sunk.
I tried it through VorpX. It was not a pleasant experience. Black flickering textures all over the place. I tried TSW as well, but VorpX wasn't able to get a convincing VR effect. So in both cases, just using a monitor was a far better experience. Which is a shame really. Derail Valley is quite cool in VR.
I have a Tobi head tracker but cannot get TSC to work with it (TSC or TSW are not on the list of official games that Tobi support). Only way I got TSC to work in VR and look good was to use the Oculus Big Screen app, and then mirror TSC from the desktop. It was ok to drive as I have an ATS Powerbrake handle, but if you need to look at a keyboard or controller when driving if would be very limiting. In game, in the keyboard layout menu - Toggle Oculus Mode is still listed as Shift + Control + O, but can not see that it does anything in the 64bit version of the game. Wonder if it would be possible to add whatever functionality Oculus mode was back into the game via the Experimental version of TSC?
Long time VR user here. westcastlerail I don't recall the exact details, MattP has mentioned VR here on the forums in the past, he demonstrated VR working back in 2015 but decided not to continue development as only the game itself worked in VR there were no menus, no hud, etc so it was shelved. He left all the VR parts in TS and stated that it may still work if you use the original Oculus SDK he used which would mean an old head set too, probably a DK2.which presents another hurdle old headsets only work with hardware from the time they were current, my old Rift S wouldn't work at all with both my RTX 3080s. Thats why you still see the command line switch and keyboard shortcut. Hordriss I got Vorpx working ok but there were a few issues any TS route that preformed badly was worse in Vorpx literally unplayable and because Vorpx uses a games Trackir support for head tracking it caused the Trackir bug to appear where the cab camera would lock. One of the recent Vorpx updates broke it even more, looking left it goes right, looking right it goes left! Might be a solution haven't tried. Have a look at UEVR works well with TSW 4 but there are still some issues. Shame really TSC in VR would be awesome!
I spotted a copy which is much cheaper: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804671709451.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2usa4itemAdapt On the other hand, I've also noticed a competitor's equipment that seems to be less fragile in construction: https://delanclip.com/ Has anyone experimented with either of these accessories?
In the end, I opted for Track IR. I've calibrated it correctly, but it doesn't work in the game. I suppose I need to open TrackIR before opening TSC. Is there any adjustment to be made in TSC?
As far as I remember, as I haven’t used mine for years, Track IR must be open before you run TSC. All the calibration and adjustments are done within Track IR. There is nothing to adjust in TSC.
Yes you need to have TrackIR open before you start TSC. Remember TrackIR only works while you are in the cab of the loco, either diesel, electric, or steam. Also works with TSW. I use mine whilst playing ETS 2, ATS, flight simulator, car racing sims etc. Not cheap, but for me really makes the games more immersive.
I believe TS used to have Oculus Rift support but it was removed at one point. In the keyboard controls menu it still displays the keybind for it. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable on this will give more specific information.
