I am new to playing TSC and I wanted some clarification on things. I've noticed that workshop scenarios are heavily relied upon to get the most out of a route, unless you're a wizard at creating your own. What about routes that don't have any workshop items listed and are limited to the few that come with the route that sometimes don't let you use all the locos included in the DLC? Also, unless it's just my eyes, it appears that not every route has a workshop page. What, if there are any, guides/tutorials about creating your own scenarios with editor are the best to look at? Thank you in advance
Presumably when you say 'Workshop routes' you mean scenarios. There are plenty more places to get scenarios if there aren't any on the Workshop for the route you want. ATS is best for UK routes, RailSim.de for German routes, and presumably RailWorks America for US ones.
Its kinda tricky i got TSC 2024 in June ..was new entry for me since i wanted more North America routes that TSW wont deliver..ive downloaded routes and scenarios from steam workshop only , you really have to research what you download cause certain engines routes and cars needed in order for it to work ..some routes off workshop free ware have no scenarios or free roam ,only can do Quick drive capable trains ,otherwise you can create your own in the editor but its too complex learning curve for me i dont get the jist of it.gave up i just let the folks that have good editing building skills to create great stuff for work shop
I do not use any workshop items. I rely heavily on ATS, AP and Justtrains for UK product. I am wary of workshop products. If it is badly made product it can impact useful files on your pc. TSC is not for the faint hearted. Once you have developed a knowledge and have a decent portfolio it blows TSW away. If you are looking for out of the box playability Then stick with TSW (and all of the shortcomings). TSC has some huge routes and massive available rolling stock. Ask (specific) questions here and you will get answers. Ask general questions and you will either get crickets or a request to be specific about a route or scenario in question.
I just am happy playing the given scenarios that come with the routes dlc i buy off steam otherwise i do quick drives ..definitely enjoy the longer routes and being able run US steam engines and older diesels even if some of it not perfect ..my current US NA favoites are B&O mountain sub Feather River Enhanced Canadian Rockies CP route
i have downloaded some good scenarios from the steam workshop i do check the ratings stars the 4 and 5 star or most downloaded popular ones work best
Definitely...but there's as much chance of that happening with stuff from suppliers on your *approved list*. The trick is to retain control over what's being/been added to your installation.
That's not the Steam Workshop itself but the code in TSC that injects three xml tags into the ScenarioProperties or RouteProperties. It fails when multiple subscriptions are queued. That's why I copy them directly from Steam's workshop\24010 folder and unsubscribe immediately before starting the game. Do not let TS install the stuff. Workshop is safe as it cannot install any assets or executables to your system. Only Content\Routes\... data. It offers some of the best scenarios and routes (NY Bergen) I've ever played. Authors like Not.Silent and Coasty are known for excellent action in their scenarios while not using too many requirements.
It breaks things when TSC hits the corrupt xmls it has produced itself. Sometimes endless startup syncing. Solution is then to unsubscribe EVERYTHING, clean RailWorks\temp where the xml tagging happens. Copied and packed for preservation and clean structure. (And transferring .ap's happens 10x faster than folders & files when making backups. NTFS loves big files).
