Hello everyone, I'm hoping someone can help me with this. After a gap of playing the game for 9-10 months, I've gone back to play the game and when I press on start, the rectangle with the TSC background appears for a few seconds, then vanishes, whilst the status on steam changes from launching executable, and then back to 'play' again. I have tried the following: A complete reinstall of Steam and the game - I have 300GB of files in the RailWorks folder, it's taken me several days to do this. It launched once, then next time I tried to play it we're back to the same issue. Updating Steam client Checking Windows 10 is up to date (it is) Reinstalling DirectX and Microsoft C++ Redistributables Checking my Radeon Pro 570 drivers are up to date and reinstalling them Uninstalling Workshop content Deleting player file.bin and letting the system generate a new one Verifying the integrity of the game files I have never had any major problems playing the game on my computer before, and on the rare times this has happened in the past, a simple restart of the computer has fixed it. Has anyone else had this issue and resolved it, or could point me in the right direction of how to go about resolving this please? There are no error messages when this happens, the game does not crash, it just does not get beyond the little splash screen before it quits. Many thanks, Jack
Go in to your Railworks folder and start LogMate before starting the game. It could be something simple and you will be able to see the log info Also what version of the game are you on? Hopefully not the Beta
Thank you for this, took me a few goes to get the log mate to record anything: 2025/02/09 16:29:20.780 - [Data Management] - Trace D:\RGBuild\CoreRelease\Code\DLLs\WindowsManager\Scenario.cpp : 1173 = Scenario::ScenarioStatistics::ScenarioStatistics new 1374512 2025/02/09 16:29:20.780 - [Scheduler] - Trace D:\RGBuild\CoreRelease\Code\DLLs\GameManager\cSchedulerModule.cpp : 268 = cSchedulerModule::registerSimulationUpdateable (106570520, 32, 0) 2025/02/09 16:29:20.780 - [Scheduler] - Trace D:\RGBuild\CoreRelease\Code\DLLs\GameManager\cSchedulerModule.cpp : 268 = cSchedulerModule::registerSimulationUpdateable (6101648, 32, 0) 2025/02/09 16:29:20.780 - [Scheduler] - Trace D:\RGBuild\CoreRelease\Code\DLLs\GameManager\cSchedulerModule.cpp : 268 = cSchedulerModule::registerSimulationUpdateable (52969880, 736, 0) 2025/02/09 16:29:20.780 - [Scheduler] - Trace D:\RGBuild\CoreRelease\Code\DLLs\GameManager\cSchedulerModule.cpp : 268 = cSchedulerModule::registerSimulationUpdateable (6595280, 4095, -1) 2025/02/09 16:29:20.780 - [Game Manager] - Trace D:\RGBuild\CoreRelease\Code\DLLs\GameManager\cGameManager.cpp : 951 = Creating main window 2025/02/09 16:29:20.780 - [Data Management] - Trace D:\RGBuild\CoreRelease\Code\DLLs\DataManagement\cRecordSet.cpp : 367 = Record set marked modified 1 2025/02/09 16:29:20.780 - [Engine] - Trace D:\RGBuild\CoreRelease\Code\Libs\Heracles\Engine\Draw\Pc\cHcDisplayManagerPc.cpp : 390 = Setting mWidth = 0 and mHeight = 0 2025/02/09 16:29:20.780 - [Engine] - Trace D:\RGBuild\CoreRelease\Code\Libs\Heracles\Engine\Draw\Pc\cHcDisplayManagerPc.cpp : 400 = Setting mWindowed = 0 2025/02/09 16:29:20.780 - [Engine] - Trace D:\RGBuild\CoreRelease\Code\Libs\Heracles\Engine\Draw\Pc\cHcDisplayManagerPc.cpp : 401 = Setting mVSync = 0 2025/02/09 16:29:20.780 - [Engine] - Trace D:\RGBuild\CoreRelease\Code\Libs\Heracles\Engine\Draw\Pc\cHcDisplayManagerPc.cpp : 420 = Setting adapterIndex = 0 2025/02/09 16:29:20.780 - [Engine] - Trace D:\RGBuild\CoreRelease\Code\Libs\Heracles\Engine\Draw\Pc\cHcDisplayManagerPc.cpp : 485 = Setting FullScreen_RefreshRateInHz = 75 2025/02/09 16:29:20.780 - [Engine] - Trace D:\RGBuild\CoreRelease\Code\Libs\Heracles\Engine\Draw\Pc\cHcDisplayManagerPc.cpp : 507 = Setting PresentationInterval = D3DPRESENT_INTERVAL_IMMEDIATE 2025/02/09 16:29:20.780 - [Engine] - Trace D:\RGBuild\CoreRelease\Code\Libs\Heracles\Engine\Draw\Pc\cHcDisplayManagerPc.cpp : 528 = Card doesn't support the necessary rendertarget/depthbuffer formats
The last line says Card doesn't support the necessary rendertarget/depthbuffer formats. Are you still using the same computer as when you last run the game? Which version of the game are you running - the normal or the Beta 78.1?
Yep, absolutely the same computer - barring the odd little problem, it has worked fine for the last six years. As far as I know there has been no system update and no graphics card updates since it last worked (30th January 2025).
How do I view what version it is? it usually says so on the full page loading screen but I can't get it to go as far as that :-( I'm not in any active betas. Could I try and roll it back to whatever version it was on the 30th January?
In the Steam Client you can select how the game starts I right clicked on the Steam Icon on the Taskbar and selected Train Simulator and got this You don't want the DX12 Experimental. When you reinstalled the various files did you install DX9 or DX12?
I've tried all three without success, though the 32-bit lasted notably longer before quitting than the other two. According to DxDiag I'm on DirectX12.
You may have inadvertently change the aspect ratio to an unsupported one. Delete your PlayersProfile.bin in Railworks/Content. Exit the game and restart and it will rebuild to a supported setting. Also play in Borderless. This a safe procedure and will not cause any issues if it does not correct your issue. This may not correct your issue but it will eliminate one of the causes.
thanks all for the suggestions so far, I have been able to get 32Bit running most of the time though of course that has its limitations, and is not so stable. OldAlaskaGuy, I've done that, thank you, doesn't seem to make a difference sadly :-(. malikrthr, I'm running 77.6b.
Not sure if it might be necessary to also install DX9 from \steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010 There is a DXSETUP.EXE in the folder See this post https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/route-problem.86204/ https://forums.dovetailgames.com/th...hy-is-the-graphics-so-poor.81569/#post-844382
