The time taken for the passengers to board is often times too long to be compatible with tighter timetables, as well as making stops quite monotonously long. The doors being operable at driver discretion would counter this, allowing the schedule to be easier to keep to.
Agreed, should be a minimum time set which is less than the current time, and then leave it down to us to decide when to close.
I second that, in reality drivers wouldn't wait exactly a minute before closing the doors. On some of the streams, it sounded like this would technically be possible as well, so hopefully we will see it at some point (soon I would hope )
